Agreed -- salt scares, like fat scares, coconut oil scares, coffee and wine scares, sweet scares fall into the category of junk science. While a case can be made that if you eat a lot of fatty foods you will gain weight, I´ve always thought that eliminating what you enjoy eating causes stress and tension, which could lead to increased blood pressure. (This is about as scientific as most of what has come out of the nutrition lobby and out of Mayor Boomberg´s own mouth.)

In short, we have a certain number of minutes alotted to each of us. Salt makes life taste better. So does butter and deep-fried stuff. Enjoy it while you can because when your number is up, it´s up.

But in the meantime, I´ll enjoy eating the things I like while I can.

Settled science has been shown time and time again to be wrong. Even they can´t be trusted any more -- once they were our only source of medical and nutritional truth. Now it´s become political; do it our way, follow our agenda, or you lose your funding. Publish or perish.

Put a salt block out in a field and see how many animals come. And after the salt block is gone they will lick a hole in the ground trying to get the last taste. Salt is essential.
Perhaps not so much the chemical sodium chloride sold in the Morton box….but sea salt and salt mined from deep deposits that contain so many other essential minerals.
Can a person eat too much?
Absolutely! Too much soda, too many cookies, too many 64 oz. Big Gulps, too many government busy-bodies operating under the guise of ´doctors.´
Moderation in all things.

Unless you are afflicted with kidney disease you can eat as much salt as you want. Your kidneys will filter out that salt and the water it made you retain, and before you know all your levels are back to normal. You have probably noticed that your rings were tight the day after a fancy restaurant meal and all was back to normal the next day. Now, if the only place you eat is that salt laden restaurant breakfast, lunch and dinner, then we have a overload problem!

Reducing salt lowered my blood pressure, from 180/110 to 140/90. 10 years later, it´s 130/75. It does make a big difference in some people.

Of course, not enough of it on a hot day, can kill you.

Grownups don´t need nannies.

You know, if skinny people who graze on greens for their food didn´t get sick, then these worriers might have a point. But skinny people do get sick, do have heart problems, do get cancer. Granted being a normal weight is the best but it´s not happening for some people for a variety of reasons and it´s not always a sign of no control.

Salt has bad PR. The adrenal glands require salt to function. If you are using too much salt, your taste buds will tell you so - you will taste it too much. Back it down then.
As for uninformed socialist wannabees telling us how to live, pound sand!

Sea salt may NOT be iodized. Before salt was processed this way, goiter from under active thyroid affected many people. It is essential.
