| Firefighters and other first responders are putting themselves at a serious risk for injury or even death when responding to hybrid and electric car crashes, an industry panel revealed this week. The danger comes with the increased size of those vehicles’ battery packs and becomes potentially deadly for those dealing with wrecked vehicles. In the case of electric or hybrid vehicle accidents, make the EPA the first responders. The ecomaniac vehicle owners would would surely understand. Don´t want to hurt any vermin come to pick at the bodies. After the EPA completes it´s investigation and files an environmental impact study, the EMTs can move in.

Hardly more dangerous than 15 gallons of gasoline. Certainly the systems should be built to be crash-safe and some more work may be needed but I can´t see them being seriously more dangerous.

New technology brings new hazards- however, electricity has been around for quite a long time. Like 1st responders are not at risk of fire hazard from gasoline fires? Believe me- fire and medic personnel will have a protocol for handling these types of emergencies safely.

A coral reef in Northern Australia severely damaged by warming seas has managed to completely heal itself in just 12 years, stunned researchers have found. The team found that being left alone to breed on its own was key. The discovery raises hope that other damaged reefs could ´regenerate´. The new research shows that an isolated reef off the northwest coast of Australia that was severely damaged by a period of warming in 1998.
