| More than 3 million Cablevision customers may kick off the new year with a TV diet. Viacom’s 17 cable networks, including MTV, Comedy Central and Nickelodeon, could go dark on Cablevision on Jan. 1 because of a dispute over programming fees. Viacom is seeking a fee increase from the Bethpage-based cable operator when their current five-year deal expires on Dec. 31. Reps for both sides declined to comment on the looming showdown, which The Post first reported on its website yesterday.

Living in various places, I´ve found very few are left where an antennae is fine. Most people I know have their internet providers through either cable or dish too. We keep our package on the low end of the price spectrum, but it is still expensive. I´d like to see this done differently, so I can pick and choose networks I want to watch. Of course, some of the networks would go broke without the subsidies.

Too right, #4, I literally have hundreds of channels and only watch a dozen of them. I would love to delete most of them, but I took the major offering of comcast. They do nothing but raise your bill but since I am house bound, it is entertainment.

I wonder, #2, how missing a few football games has changed your life. I have missed a lot of games over my (long) lifetime, and I am no worse off for missing them than I am for not watching political conventions. Your team can win or lose without you. I really don´t see how professional sports can help any fan, unless they are employed by a team or the infrastructure it uses.

My husband and daughter insist on having Dish Network. We live in the boonies in an area that will never even have cable - too few houses to make it feasible. We have hundreds of channels even with just the basic package. I watch one show on one channel - NCIS reruns on USA. If I were living alone I´d dump the dish. I can get DVD´s of NCIS. As I watch my husband click through the channels ( that guy thing ) 95% of what I see is garbage. The rest is sports.
The loss of MTV, Comedy Central and Nickelodeon would be welcome - vulgarity and propaganda.

Not much of a TV watcher here but I do realize a lot of people count it for their entertainment. #6 takes the very liberal viewpoint that ´if it doesn´t matter to me than it can´t be important´.

It´s curious to me that sooooo many of the channel offerings are ones we would not choose if we did have the option. But they are included and are subsidised I guess by force. Why? Why don´t the companies take a vote of subscribers so they can periodically weed out the unwatchable, or at least give us the option to not have them in the package, so they can die a natural death? Perhaps it would force the creators of channels to come up with better products.

For several months, the Benghazi scandal lay dormant, apparently forgiven and forgotten. Then, inexplicably, it reared its ugly head when Congressmen Ron Johnson and Jason Chaffetz smelled Obama´s blood in the water. After feigning affliction with the flu, and then ostensibly tumbling down a carpeted stairwell resulting in an unconfirmed concussion, then-Secretary of State Clinton was finally forced to testify before Congress. Clinton´s desperate attempt to put the Benghazi scandal to rest with her now-infamous impassioned declaration -- "What difference, at this point, does it make?"

ANKARA, Turkey — Turkey´s prime minister has given a speech from the top of a bus making it clear that he has no intention of backing down in the face of 10 days of anti-government protesters. DENVER — Supporters of same-sex marriage are taking their fight to new venues daily — first to the courts, then to state legislatures, and now to bakeries. The owner of a Colorado bakery who refused to bake a wedding cake for a gay couple is fighting a civil-rights complaint filed May 31 by the attorney general’s office. A hearing is scheduled for Sept. 23 before an administrative-law judge in Denver.

The Associated Press filed Freedom of Information Act requests for the secret email addresses of appointed administration employees, and a Labor Department spokesman came back with an offer: you can have the emails if you give us a million bucks. The AP tried to get the alternate addresses — being used by a variety government officials "to prevent their inboxes from being overwhelmed with unwanted messages" — after an Environmental Protection Agency administrator disclosed using separate email accounts for work last year.

The New York Times reported in Sunday editions that "some in the West Wing privately tell associates they wish [Attorney General Eric Holder] would step down." "The White House is apoplectic about [Attorney General Eric Holder] and has been for a long time," one unnamed person quoted in the Times story said. I smell a bum´s rush.The newspaper attributes the "apoplectic" comment to "a Democratic former government official" who asked not to be named while "talking about friends." The paper also did not say which White House officials, either specifically or by duties or rank, are angry with Holder.

The Internal Revenue Service is acknowledging that the agency spent tens of millions of dollars in recent years on conferences for thousands of its employees. Details of the conferences are expected to appear in a report set for release Tuesday by the Treasury Department watchdog that also confirmed allegations that agency officials had improperly targeted certain political groups seeking tax-exempt status.

Director of National Intelligence James Clapper is really struggling to explain why he told Congress in March (see video above) that the National Security Agency does not intentionally collect any kind of data on millions of Americans. His latest take: It´s an unfair question, he said, like "When are you going to stop beating your wife?" And it seems to depend on the meaning of "collect." "I responded in what I thought was the most truthful, or least untruthful, manner by saying ´no,´" Clapper told NBC News on Sunday.

Senator Barbara Boxer celebrated the rekindling of talks about gun-control legislation after a shooting at Santa Monica College last Friday. “Every single time something like this happens, I think this does give us wind at our back,” Boxer said on MSNBC over the weekend. On Friday, a gunman opened fire on the school’s campus in the state of California, killing six people, including the gunman. In a Gallup tracking poll released Tuesday, former-President George W. Bush currently stands with a favorability rating of 49%, compared to 46% who see the 43rd president unfavorably. Meanwhile, another Gallup poll shows President Obama with only a 47% approval rating, with 44% disapproving. If you think about it, this makes perfect sense. After all, Obama fooled everyone when he ran as the anti-Bush in 2008. Everyone thought Obama meant he would be less hawkish than his predecessor. Rep. Trent Franks (R-Ariz.) said Wednesday that the incidence of pregnancy caused by rape is "very low," prompting criticism from Democrats who said the GOP is waging a "war on women." Franks made the comment during a committee mark-up of his late-term abortion ban bill, which is expected pass the House next week. The Republican lawmaker was arguing against a Democratic amendment allowing rape and incest victims to procure abortions. As written, the bill only exempts women whose lives are in danger. "You know, the incidence of rape resulting in pregnancy are very low," Franks said.

At a Thursday press conference, House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi condemned a bill that would prohibit abortions during the final four months of pregnancy with exceptions for when the life or physical health of the mother was at stake. Asked what the moral difference is between what Dr. Kermit Gosnell did to babies born alive and aborting those same infants moments before birth, Pelosi refused to answer. "As a practicing and respectful Catholic, this is sacred ground to me when we talk about this," Pelosi said. "This shouldn´t have anything to do with politics."
