Real Housewives of the Beltway
Wall Street Journal, by Staff

The fiscal-cliff melodrama has become one of those bad cable reality shows, a sort of "Real Housewives of New Jersey" without the sincerity though not without the plastic surgery. In the latest episode on Friday, the actors met at the White House in a last-ditch attempt to avert the cliff they had created, and that they all claim would be a catastrophe to jump off, but that they hope they can blame on each other if they do. On second thought, this script would be laughed right off cable.

The only thing I would disagree with in this article is the comment that ´Americans aren´t stupid´. Half of them are stupid.

What kind of a nitwit bimbo would sit down for tea with Barry "you didn´t build that" Obama, expecting anything other than malevolent gossip, slander and lies?

These politicians want to make a horrible deal then have people be happy about it. Washington has been crisis mongering for a long time to get people to sign off on ludicrous spending and programs. They manufactured a crisis to get TARP passed when it was nothing but greedy Wall St. people not having the liquidity to pay themselves year end bonuses. The problem could have probably been solved with a couple hundred billion but it became a porkfest because the public was convinced it was needed.

I´m thinking the hurricane bill really only needs 30 some billion but it´s ballooned to 60 some as it´s loaded up with pork. If the GOP objects they´ll be labelled as not caring about "victims" of the disaster.Of course Obama never misses a chance to reward unions and other supporters.

Report: US special forces on

The Pentagon has placed its elite cadre of special operations teams on full alert to launch preemptive attacks against suspected al Qaeda targets across the globe, according to reports. The American special forces teams have spent the past week waiting for U.S. military and intelligence officials to confirm the whereabouts of the terror cell plotting to attack U.S. diplomatic outposts in the Mideast and North Africa. Unnamed sources told CNN on Monday that the teams were poised to carry out the preemptive strikes, but declined to comment on where the U.S. forces were located or which potential

This past July’s dismal jobs report was no outlier. Job gains during the Obama recovery have been slow at best. If monthly job gains going back to 1946 are ranked in order of best to worst, the difference between job growth during the first four years of economic recovery under President Ronald Reagan and Obama is astounding. Total job growth during the first four years of the Obama recovery has been 4,657,000 or just 97,020 jobs per month. That´s not even enough to hit the breakeven level of 150,000 jobs per month when population growth is taken into account.

U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder´s travel expenses exceeded $4 million for 213 separate trips during President Obama´s first term in office, according to documents obtained through the Freedom Of Information Act. The expenses, incurred between March 2009 and August 2012, were all borne by taxpayers - including those covering several personal trips. Holder typically travels on a government-owned Gulfstream V jet, whose retail cost is more than $53.5 million. The U.S. government owns at least five such aircraft. Judicial Watch released the documents Monday, showing that the attorney general billed his agency more than

The Internal Revenue Service´s scandalous targeting of tea party and conservative groups refuses to die, as one by one the administration´s explanations prove untrue. We were told that the White House, like the rest of the country, learned about the program on May 10 through a planted question asked of then IRS official Lois Lerner at an American Bar Association conference. Turns out the White House knew earlier. We were told the targeting was the work of a few rogue IRS employees in Cincinnati. Then those employees insisted that they were being managed from Washington.

For almost five years now, President Obama has been making the argument that government "investments" in infrastructure are crucial to economic recovery. "Now we used to have the best infrastructure in the world here in America," the president lamented in 2011. "So how can we now sit back and let China build the best railroads? And let Europe build the best highways? And have Singapore build a nicer airport?" In his recent economic speeches in Illinois, Missouri, Florida and Tennessee, the president again made a pitch for government spending for transportation and "putting people back to work rebuilding America´s infrastructure."

Surveillance Society: The government says spying on U.S. citizens is acceptable since it´s merely a means of fighting foreign terrorists. But what if the government used espionage in investigations of common criminals? It seems that´s really happening. According to a Reuters exclusive, "A secretive U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) unit is funneling information from intelligence intercepts, wiretaps, informants and a massive database of telephone records to authorities across the nation to help them launch criminal investigations of Americans." The program is so sneaky that officials are trying to cover it up. "Law enforcement agents," says

War On Terror: As President Obama locks down U.S. embassies across the Muslim world in response to terrorist threats, he´s giving thousands of terrorists amnesty in Afghanistan. Buried inside a lengthy unclassified report released last week by the Pentagon is a description of something called the Afghan Peace and Reintegration Program, through which the administration started to pay terrorists to walk off the battlefield. All Taliban and al-Qaida fighters have to do is sign (a thumb print will suffice for illiterates) an "intent to reintegrate" form vowing to "cease violence (and) live within the laws of Afghanistan,"

The global terror alert that brought the closure of 19 U.S. embassies across the Muslim world was the result of intercepted communications from the head of al Qaeda in Pakistan ordering his counterpart in Yemen to launch a strike ´within days´, two security officials revealed today. A U.S. intelligence official and a Mideast diplomat said electronic communications were picked up several weeks ago between Ayman al-Zawahri - the head of the global terror network who succeeded Osama bin Laden - and Nasser al-Wuhayshi, head of al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula. Officials had previously called the communication ´strategically significant´ and likened

In warning about possible al Qaeda attacks against Americans overseas, U.S. officials may have provided too much detail about intercepted chatter and the source of the information, and that may make it more difficult to get such tips next time, former and current intelligence officials say.On Friday, the U.S. State Department issued a worldwide travel alert for Americans, citing an unspecified al Qaeda threat. The bulletin said that the highest threat levels are the Middle East and North Africa, “and possibly occurring in or emanating from the Arab Peninsula.”

For nearly a year, we have had no answer to why the administration lied about Benghazi — why it told the world, not to mention the parents of our murdered SEALs at the funeral of their sons, that the cause of that fatal conflagration was an anti-Islamic video no one saw, when the various arms of our executive branch (White House, State and intelligence) already knew, or strongly suspected, it was a terror attack orchestrated by al-Qaeda affiliates. You only have to read the now infamous talking points to know that. That this lie was deeply immoral is obvious.

Today, across Africa, Araby and Asia, from Nouakchott to Dhaka, the diplomatic facilities of the United States are closed. There’s a Tsarnaev out there, somewhere – could be the Mahgreb, the Levant, the Horn of Africa, the Indian sub-continent – who knows? So, as Richard Fernandez writes, “Shelter in place, this time globally.” Maybe it will work. Maybe by the end of the day there will be, unlike Benghazi a year on, men in custody. But if not? Daniel Pipes: Don’t know about you, but I find this pre-emptive cringing unworthy of a great country, even humiliating.

Several skills that every kid once learned in school are going the way of the dodo in a hurry. Diagramming sentences is practically an extinct art, for example. Cursive handwriting and memorized multiplication tables look to be swiftly headed that way. Apparently, the next thing that kids will no longer need to learn is spelling and grammar. Sugata Mitra, a professor of educational technology at Newcastle University in northeast England, announced that traditional language rules are out of fashion, reports the Daily Mail. Common sense tells me that cops don´t need a Taser or a shotgun to subdue a 95-year-old man. When John Wrana was a young man, fit and strong and fighting in World War II with the U.S. Army Air Corps, did he ever think he´d end this way? Just a few weeks shy of his 96th birthday, in need of a walker to move about, cops coming through the door of his retirement home with a Taser and a shotgun.

I have a suggestion. How about an exhibit on Tawana Brawley? If the purpose of the new National Museum of African American History and Culture at the Smithsonian is to remember racial controversies, as the proposed Trayvon exhibit seems to confirm, then how about an honest look at the phenomenon of hate crime hoaxes? Particular attention should be paid to the role of the media in both the Trayvon and Tawana materials. Unquestionably, the media stirred up racial animus, and these incidents both contributed to raising racial tensions.

Police shot and killed an armed teen in the South Bronx early today after the suspect opened fire and refused to drop his gun, police said. Two rookie cops heard shots fired near East 151st Street and Courtlandt Avenue around 3 a.m. and ran in the direction of fire, police said. The uniformed officers saw Shaaliver Douse, 14, of the South Bronx, chasing another person through the streets, according to cops. Douse, who was arrested in May on attempted murder charges for shooting a 15-year-old, fired at the man running on East 151st Street this morning, police said.
