Deal Reached to Avert
East Coast Port Strike

Fox Business Network, by Jennifer Booton

Original Article

Posted By:KarenJ1, 12/28/2012 1:23:18 PM

A major roadblock in the negotiations between the International Longshoremen´s Association and port employers has been overcome, averting a crippling strike that threatened to shut down 15 ports along the East and Gulf Coasts starting on Saturday. The container royalty payment, or the amount of money port workers receive based on the size of the containers coming into port, was the largest point of contention between the port workers´ union and the Maritime Alliance that represents port operators. The two reached an agreement regarding the royalty payment on Friday, a day before an existing contract was set to expire

Comments:
This just postpones the inevitable. The unions just never quit in their quest to cause mayhem and chaos.

You know Obama must have made a call to someone in the union to extend the contract, otherwise, why would they voluntarily agree to this? After all, the unions know the WH and the NLRB are in their corner. This is just a move to get Obama through the Fiscal Disturbance. Once that crisis has passed, he`ll deal with the longshoremen/port employers an I doubt the employers will like the outcome.

Alec Baldwin is back in the news despite his vow earlier this year to retreat from public life. The combustible actor is executive producing a new documentary on veteran liberal politician Barney Frank, the first openly gay member of Congress. Titled Compared to What: The Improbable Journey of Barney Frank, the documentary chronicles the impact Frank´s sexual preference had on his political career. The film will make its debut next month at the Tribeca Film Festival. Baldwin will team with Frank for a Q&A at the movie´s April 27 premiere. Barney Frank is a personal hero of mine,” he said

The Obama administration has been helping to facilitate a series of events nationwide at Mexican Consulate offices to enroll people in Obamacare – and a key activist says the efforts are “our responsibility” regardless of citizenship. “Whether they’re Mexican nationals or whether they’re United States citizens or whether they’re in transition-- and if they’re there it is our responsibility within all of America to educate on the Affordable Care Act,” Enroll America Field Organizer Jose Medrano told Breitbart News on Wednesday. Health Care insurance navigator groups hosted an Obamacare enrollment fair on Tuesday in the Mexican Consulate’s Brownsville office, The

The unethical and illegal behavior of Democratic state senators in California, where Democrats have total control of the state legislature, is giving the state’s Democratic Party concerns that the GOP may use the misbehavior to regain power. Since the beginning of 2014, every month has featured a Democratic state senator either being arrested or convicted. The latest arrest came Wednesday, as Sen. Leland Yee of San Francisco was arrested on federal corruption charges. The federal government charged Lee with conspiracy to deal firearms without a license and illegally importing firearms. In January, Sen. Rod Wright of Inglewood was convicted of

President Obama said Pope Francis did not raise Obamacare “in detail” when they met on Thursday, but that in a separate meeting with the Vatican’s secretary of state “we discussed briefly the issue of making sure that conscience and religious freedom was observed in the context of applying the law.” At a joint press conference with Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi, Obama also acknowledged that he differs with the Vatican’s stance on some issues, but added that he “heartily” agrees with most of its positions. During his nearly hour-long papal audience, Obama said Pope Francis “actually did not touch in

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. — A college in upstate New York is offering a summer course on Miley Cyrus, but the professor teaching the class says students won’t be required to twerk. The Saratogian newspaper reports that the course will be offered by Skidmore College, a private, liberal arts college in Saratoga Springs. Republicans ramp up planning to replace

The Republican Party´s rising Senate prospects are forcing House Republicans to craft a health care agenda that could function as a feasible legislative blueprint for overhauling Obamacare in January 2015. The Republican-controlled House has approved legislation to repeal the Affordable Care Act and reform aspects of the law several times, only to see the bills die in a Democratic-led Senate that is committed to preserving the law. That dynamic would change if Republicans win six Democratic-held seats and assume control of the Senate in November, as appears increasingly possible. (Snip) House Republicans are drafting a comprehensive Obamacare alternative. The agenda

Postal employees have spent thousands of taxpayer dollars on gambling, bills and other personal expenses, according to a series of reports by the U.S. Postal Service inspector general. Federal employees may use government credit cards for official travel expenses, but some used theirs to withdraw cash before hitting casinos. Nearly a dozen reports on closed travel card theft investigations were obtained by the Washington Examiner in response to a Freedom of Information Act request. One manager, who was not identified in the report, used her travel card to withdraw $32,000 in cash so she could gamble, according to the inspector

Former Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld has said that ´a trained ape´ could do a better job managing American interests in Afghanistan than President Obama. The retired Republican made the insult while doing a phone-in interview for Greta Van Susteren´s Fox News show on Tuesday. He argued that the President made a serious error by failing to negotiate a status forces agreement with Afghan President Hamid Karzai. Gawker points out that such an agreement would effectively commit the United States to having a certain number of troops in the country for a number of years beyond the already-agreed-upon plan which

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D., Nev.) said the fault of struggling to sign up on the Obamacare exchanges didn’t lie with the faulty website, but with the people who weren’t “educated on how to use the Internet.” Explaining the reasoning behind the latest Obamacare delay, Reid said too many people just didn’t know to use their computer properly and needed more time. Apparently, it had nothing to do with the well-documented failings of the website that have embarrassed the White House for months. “We have hundreds of thousands of people who tried to sign up who didn’t get through,” he said.

Okay, THAT was certainly embarrassing. At the end of a joint news conference with Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte in the Netherlands on Tuesday, the applause for Barack Obama came from a grand total of one guy. One. After thanking the crowd twice for suffering through his boring, standard worn-out spiel, Obama looked around the room, expecting the usual fanfare and applause he receives from his loyal followers back home. It never came. Instead, the Leader of the Free World was met with one slow, awkward clap. Question: was MSNBC’s Chris Matthews in the house?

U.S. President Barack Obama and Pope Francis met Thursday for the first time at Vatican City, offering a chance for a reset of sorts between the administration and Catholic leadership following years of strained relations. The two world leaders greeted each other with a smile and a handshake, and posed for pictures before sitting down across a table from each other. The goal of the meeting: Focus on areas where two of the world´s most influential men agree and gently tread ground where they differ. The President and the Pontiff will, as the White House said in a statement, focus on "shared commitment

Other recent polling has found Obama´s disapproval rating slightly lower, remaining in the low 50s. As the U.S. Supreme Court weighed the constitutionality of a contraception coverage mandate Tuesday morning, a federal appeals court heard a separate legal challenge that could have much more sweeping implications for the future of President Obama´s health care law. And if the oral arguments before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. At issue in the case are the subsidies that the federal government provides for individuals purchasing insurance through Obamacare. Though the text

On Tuesday night two things happened. 1. A trio of Secret Service agents were sent home from Amsterdam after one was found passed out drunk in a hotel hallway. 2. The Obama Administration announced (another) extension of the enrollment deadline for Obamacare signups. At first glance, these two events have little in common with one another. But, modern politics is all about narratives and storylines. And, both of these events confirm a growing concern from the public about President Obama: That he´s just not up to governing his administration and, by extension, the country, effectively.
