Even as news that Sen. Dianne Feinstein´s (D-CA) "Assault Weapon" ban is really a ban on some of the most popular civilian-owned handguns in the U.S., details of her promised legislation also show that it will require gun owners to register their guns with the government. Feinstein´s legislation does this by banning the import, possession, and transfer of hundreds of different weapons, but making special allowances for gun owners who already own the weapons on the ban list. On first read, the owner of an AR-15,
1. Start with the First Amendment. Fingerprint all clergy and "journalists" first. 2. It takes a very special [willful, etc.] kind of stupidity to pretend "...shall not be infringed" means anything other than what it means.
I wonder how many unregistered guns there are in the nation. So many are handed down father to son and not registered, there must be millions. Then the question how many of the owners of these under the radar guns would willing to and get printed and raise a big flag saying come and get it.
The real plan is this: put in a new gun ban, register all guns; then, when there is another Newtown CT school incident, tell Americans that confiscation is the only answer. Listen for the knock at your door. End of Second Amendment. Liberals win.

Dianne, the States already regulate guns.
Under the Reserved Powers clause, Dianne should stop attempting to violate the Constitution, and tell her fellow Senators to get off of their lazy asses and pass a budget, something they have not bothered to do for years.
Just what an arguably near-bankrupt country [due to Democrat mismanagement]needs is another giant federal bureaucracy doing nothing useful at vast expense.
Canada just ended their looney-tune long gun registry after $2Billion was wasted on it. Canada has 10% of the population of America. Can America finance yet another Democrat boondoggle? Everything they touch turns to junk. Look at California, or Stab City or... etc. etc.

nancy it actually takes 2/3 rds of the states to change the constitution . May we remind the progressives do not control even half of them so pass your bill honey and wait forever for it to succeed . The same should apply to the Obamacare fiasco --30 GOP states pass their independent bills to nullify it and refuse to accept the FED´s unconstitutional blunder.
Do guns perform abortions? Perhaps we just have to expand the definition; late term, you understand. Someone wrote recently, "abort liberals to the 300th trimester". Diane is an elitist, and therefore does not have the same limitations as an ordinary citizen. She has "rights", and I suppose, she is anxious to find out their limits. If these politicians want to live in a bubble, guarded by gunmen, they might avoid the backlash for a time, but the second amendment isn´t going away, but the politician may. All tyrants and dictators want to disarm their subjects, and these gun grabbers are typical, and make themselves vulnerable to retaliation. Typical white woman with too high of an opinion of her self,I suppose. Also found this: "Those who would turn their guns into plows, will plow for those who don´t." -Thomas Jefferson
I assume that dried up old prune has already registered and been fingerprinted?
I´ve always wondered why her life, and the rest of those hypocrites, is worth so much more than mine. They don´t have any trouble getting California carry permits.
Of course, California does have its standards. Because of the public safety issue, Nobody in California can get a CCW unless(s)he is 1) a politician, 2) a rock star, or 3) a left-wing movie actor. The rest of us don´t have a need.
BTW, Dianne, if I had a gun, you wouldn´t get it, no matter what laws you pass, nor would I register it. Of course that´s all academic, since I would never own anything so dangerous...
The latest hoodlum fad is setting people on fire. We´re in a very sick and demented society and that´s why guns are in such high demand.
Feinstein just wants to be the champion of gun grabbing to prove she´s the queen of the far left. Her bill probably won´t even pass the senate, let alone the House.Maybe it´s all a stunt so Obama can step in with an exe. order but even those can´t repeal a constitutional right.
The left thinks they own the country right now and whatever they say, goes. In their opinion, there´s nothing to oppose them other than pockets of right wing renegades lurking in the bushes.
It´s just like the death penalty being eradicated by the left under the guise of it being inhumane.Never mind the victim of the murderers were treated inhumanely. If you fire a rocket at Israel, they should only be allowed to shoot rockets back.
The left wouldn´t even be in power except for importing foreign voters, yet they still believe the majority of people agrees with them.
This bill is going nowhere and Feinstein knows it. It is just the latest liberal weapon to bludgeon Republicans with. We will now not only be labeled as racist, homophobic woman haters but we also support gun violence and serial killers. The lunatics have fully taken over the asylum.
Most of the liberal Democrats would legalize drugs and ban all firearms in a minute. That would transform America in another way, all the drug dealers could be let out of prison to make room, and Americans who have never been criminals before would now be classified as criminals subject to long prison terms as a result of many aspects of the liberal Democrats war on firearms.
How many of the current criminal population and violent nut cases who are causing all this shooting havoc around the country are going to show up to be fingerprinted and photographed anyway?
Article cites that gun control advocates label their opposition as "paranoid" and "conspiratorial. " Slippery slope is another favorite gun grabber insult. I hate "slippery slope" because it is code for "paranoid. " it´s used to dismiss 2nd Amendment advocates who oppose "coexpress legitimate concerns about the incremental confiscation of individual rights.
. . . who oppose "common sense" control legislation and express legitimate concerns about the incremental confiscation of individual rights. Now here comes feinstein and cuomo with expressions of gun grabbers inner thoughts we always knew they had. Mandatory registration? Confiscation? When that doesn´t work, what´s next, drone X-rays of all residences to locate firearms followed by a door to door roundup? Oh, sorry my paranoid side just kicked in.
ok, great idea! Let´s start in Englewood first (section of Chicago, 100% black, 4-500 murders by guns each year) I´m sure they´ll gladly comply!! (oh, by the way, guns are illegal there already) But Noooo, we´ll need to start in all the law abiding suburbs first.
Check out haat You tube vid of larry Grathwohl, who went to the Weathermen meetings wearingawire. Hesaidthat Professor types spoke about not beingabletorun theentire USA and that chucks wouldbe consigned to the North Koreans and the REd Chinese. Andthat 25 million of the US citizes wold ave to be eliminated and aother25 million wouldbe re-educated. Check it out . Thisis what these donk lefties believe. Note that there costituency are crooksand murderes whom their attys defend and they want to let out of Jail. And arrest and confiscated lawful USA citizens. Also Read the Atlantic Mag article onthe attack on the 5th Amendment.Another one going down. There is a reason why the Freedoms were first Amendment in the Bill of Rights and the Right to bear arms and, yes, defend the freedoms was the 2nd Amendment.By design. People cry over the killing of these kids, but look at the unemplyment abuse and heavy taxes and leashed medical care and totalitarian existance that are being heaped on Americans 6yr olds by our govt.
Quasi-criminalizing the second amendment. Substitute Muslims, Hispanics, poll workers, Acorn volunteers, rehab participants, dope customers in legal marijuana states, homeless, adolescents from single-parent households, or gays for gun owners and see if any of those pass the smell test.
1) The proposed legislation is in direct contradiction to the Heller decision of 2008 establishing the 2nd Ammendment as an individual Right (which we all knew anyway).
2) The proposed legislation is being framed as an "Assault Weapons Ban"... but reading it reveals it would also ban many handguns. This is why nobody trusts politicians- particularly Lefties.
3) The last ´Assault Weapons Ban" didn´t work.

Many of you say ´it can´t be done´....´it won´t be done´......´they can´t do that, can they´.................They can do whatever they want, because we are in the middle of their nightmare!---The people of Germany didn´t think it could happen to them, either.----We are looking at a Civil War and their side has the bigger guns.
We have Oath-Keepers. I suggest a new organization: "Gun-Grab Killers." Our right to own lethal weapons to defend against evil in our own communities is from God, not man. That right cannot legitimately be taken away by mere men.
Gun-Grab Killers would vow to kill the first enforcement "officer" at their door who would dare to enforce an (eternally) unlawful order to confiscate lethal weapons peacefully owned.
If enough people joined such a group (anonymously, perhaps), and if clear prior notice was delivered to every potential enforcer of unlawful orders, we might just avoid a repeat of Nazi Germany.

Use every tragedy to increase gun control.
These measures would not have prevented the latest school shooting. The perp didn´t own a gun.
Think it´s bad now, wait til Comrad obama nominates his next Supreme Court choice(s). He could name Karl Marx, Saul Alinsky or Vladimir Putin and the libs and the media would fall in love with him or her. The Republicans don´t have the clankers to stop anyone obama chooses. Fact is, he´ll probably pick a minority or female to use that as a weapon against the opposition.
Once this happens (and it will) America comes to an end. Welcome to New Amerika.
These mass murder shootings of late are kind of suspicious. The democrats moving with what seems to be predecided agenda IMMEDIATELY after reminds of when a married couple divorces, then one of the former spouses is already in the arms of another just a day after the divorce papers are signed. Maybe I´m wearing a tin hat but how about how many commit suicide after the shooting, leaving no spoken trail? It´s the perfect crime for democrat rats.
Someone with who is a good thinker, former leader, former military, expert in revolutionary war, needs to submit ideas of what we can do to stop these off the chain actions of an out of control gov. We need to think of an ultimatum, sign some petitions and give the Feds a compliance date. Enough is enough. Tell them to back off or else. Plus we won´t be submitting any bills to congress to get justice. The slacker DC politicians have shown all too well that is ineffective.
Gov diatribe/rhetoric nearing end of 2012 shows why they have stockpiled some much ammunition. We are under siege and they want a complete takeover. They probably plan to surrender us to China at some point as it was noted China recently poked their nose into the gun debate demanding US citizens be disarmed.
Why on earth is that dingbat a Senator in the first place?
During the Nightstalker case, she was the Mayor of SF and let the cat out of the bag about evidence police found that was helping them to link the cases (shoe prints) - so, the Nightstalker of course changed his shoes - eventually he was caught, by people in a neighborhood where he was stalking.
This will mean Congress has gone too far. Even King George realized ownership of private weapons was a right in America. These tyrants need to be taught a lesson, first it was stuffing Obama-don´t-care down our throats, and now it´s making every law-abiding citizen a law-breaker through a "retro-active" law. These people are evil. If the States don´t rise up and re-establish control over the Federal, then the citizens must. It´s a right spelled out in our very Declaration of Independence.
...but we can´t round up and deport the illegal invader leeches on our tax-dollars?
Demonrats are just doing their Nazi best to make law-abiding Constitutional citizens into criminals. If they succeed then we have nothing left to lose, so we might as well water that Tree of Freedom, huh?
Tattoo the gun owners registration number on the inside of their arm and have them be required to wear a patch on the outside of their clothing for easy identification. Those not complying and found with a firearm are subject to summary execution.
Hate to tell you, #33....but the NFA has passed repeated challenges in court, and I doubt Scalia and the others would throw it out and effectively remove Federal controls from machineguns and silencers.
So...this has to be stopped from passing or we´ll be spending the next forty years chipping away at it.
In the same vein as Difi´s sweeping abuse of the Constitution here, maybe all politicians and candidates for public office should undergo a background check, eligibility-for-office verification, and mandatory sterilization.
May I send ms.feinstein a message in a bit of Middle Tennessee vernacular, please:
No!!! Nor will I tell you how many guns I have or what type they are. I will not be fingerprinted, nor will my grandchildren be fiingerprinted. Also, I will not register nor allow to be registered my grandchildren´s guns. You will not be allowed to know what type they are, nor how many. Period.
Like Obama et al., Feinstein is not the disease but a symptom of the disease. The disease is in the electorate. Its plague reservoirs are in the universities. Unless Americans reclaim their schools and universities from those who are, knowingly or not, enemies of America, the sickness may indeed be unto death.
Just as they promised they would, the Sixties radicals seized the universities and the institutions of culture. "We will get you through your children!" howled Alan Ginsburg. And they did.
All of these liberal and Leftist zombies are being manufactured right now in our schools and universities, and conservatives seem powerless to do anything about it. The battle for America has been lost at the ballot box. It can still be won in the schools and universities, but the hour is growing late. Another generation of indoctrinated voters and the republic will be history.
Weapons manufacturing was about the only business that was going great during King O´s first term . Is it any wonder that purchase´s have gone even higher since he got re-elected ? . Look , the socialist´s are like an Ant colony , they all work for the greater good . Feiny or whomever , it could have been any one of them . They all know weapons sales have little to do with a school and a loon . They all know as well what their King has plans for and are very worried we know too . We´re arming ourselves ahead of schedule .
Does she seriously think that anyone who has an unregistered gun would trot over to a government agency and admit ownership or give one up. Especially to a government that can strip search and run a peep show at airports, listen to your phone and computer private conversations without warrants, and steal the money you earn to fund people who won´t provide for themselves. In a contest of trust, I will trust normal working people over bureaucrats every time.
The one gun that I own was registered years ago and I bought it for self defense. The Government taught me how to use weapons, although I knew how before I was 10 years old. Someone stop these political idiots before they start a civil war they can´t win.
Supreme Court Justice Joseph Story—who it bears noting, was appointed to the Supreme Court by the guy who wrote the Constitution. Story wrote, “The right of citizens to keep and bear arms has justly been considered, as the palladium of the liberties of the republic; since it offers a strong moral check against the usurpation and arbitrary power of the rulers; and will generally, even if these are successful in the first instance, enable the people to resist and triumph over them.”
“Among the many misdeeds of British rule in India, history will look upon the Act depriving a whole nation of arms as the blackest.” – Mohandas Gandhi, an Autobiography, page 446.
Ms. Feinstein is on course to be the ignition point to the second Civil War.
Look DiFi...finish up your Fast and Furious mess the black AG & Pres won´t talk about... They have already started finding out where the guns are ..OBAMACARE! I was asked if I had one when they updated my records for the death panel in DC.
Look it will not pass.. you know it and I know it but what will they give up or change..they will agree upon somthing and our rights will be further eroded. It is simple "God given right" to won a firearm and protect ones self, family, country. It is such a simple idea. Amongst my friends this is a just a precursor to Civil War.
#34: "We are looking at a Civil War and their side has the bigger guns."
A Russian defector during the cold war was asked if Russia had any plans to invade the US.
He said absolutely not. They´re not afraid of the military, it´s the citizens with millions of guns they fear.
#60: It´s the "militia" that our goons in DC fear as well as the well armed citizens. Among the military both active, reserve and retired are thousands, maybe millions who would would take of command those "bigger guns" of which Ann of #34 refers. And, they would not be friendly to DC.
It will take three more generations to "indoctrinate" enough kids to implement this even in a small way, but it will happen. Then it will be the criminals that the goons in DC will fear when they take over. Those criminals will be what used to be "law abiding citizens."
God Bless America. And I thank him every day that he´s on our side!

After you pry my cold dead hands from around the grip, you may take my finger prints and record them for posterity.
But don´t ever think that I will submit them willingly.
Finally, how obtuse must you be to claim the name Feinstein and advocate a policy that is straight out of 1934 Germany?
Sorry for the second post, but it had to be said: Even if you fall for the militia argument (which I emphatically do not), a case can be made that We, the people who would make up the militia should have exactly the same weapons and firepower that the US Armed Services have, since the purpose of the Second Amendment is to protect We, the people against a tyrannical Federal government.
I guess Di-Fi thinks the government can keep guns out of the hands of criminals like they are so good at keeping drugs from criminals! Your an idiot if you think that!

In reply to #53 - Posted by:rmsimms "...but the NFA has passed repeated challenges in court, and I doubt Scalia and the others would throw it out and effectively remove Federal controls from machineguns and silencers."
FYI: Silencers are now allowed to be sold & possessed by the ordinary citizen for hunting purposes.
The huge cost of setting up and running such a massive national firearms and firearms owner registration system would clearly adversely outweigh any benefit derived from it. The Canadians found that out, and did away with the registration system that they had in Canada.
The only reason that the Democrats would want to set up such gun, and gun owner, data bases is if they intend to confiscate all firearms sometime in the future. Probably after another isolated horrific shooting by a nut case that creates another crisis for them to implement another incremental move towards banning all firearms.
Clearly the number of violent criminals and dangerous nut cases who have firearms and who would comply with the requirements of such a onerous registration system would be minuscule to non-existent. So this overreaching gun control proposal will only be a bother to law abiding gun owners, and only goes to further show that when guns are banned that only criminals will have them.
Congress should deep six this seriously over-reaching gun control proposal in favor of supporting ways to keep firearms out of the hands of the dangerous mentally ill as that´s where the problem is.
Several posters have already mentioned this, but if the fools in the DC bubble seriously try and push this nonsense, they are in fact on the course to a civil war (the first was a war between the states, nothing civil about it). It´s difficult for a rational person to try and wrap your head (so to speak) around the level of ignorance of the citizenry feinstein and her cohorts display.
An earlier poster mentioned that those with a concealed carry permit had already been finger-printed. It´s a little different where I´m from; I filled out the form at the Sherrif´s office, waited about 15 mins, then paid $15 and received my permit. My wife has been able to renew it for me when I have been out of town (cost an extra $1 though).
This frightening example of a woman has her own armed bodyguards, and like Stalin, Castro, Hitler, Chavez, all other dictators in Korea throughout the east, Commie China, elsewhere, Feinstien wants to take away private ownership, Commie Stealth Step by Commie Stealth Step. A little loss at a time. Very dictatorial. And yet, she has, what? a billion dollars from all her insider connections? Armed, and fascist, pivileged wealthy. What a disgrace.
#60 -- I must have missed where it says, "the right of the militia to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed." Every copy and transcription I´ve seen of the Constitution defends that right for the people. Not the state, not the militia, not the literati... but the people. i.e., individual citizens.
There are numerous states that don´t require guns to be registered. Do the leftists really think that gun owners in those states are going to admit to owning guns much less agree to be fingerprinted or voluntarily turn in their guns? Idiots.
#18 I have written to the Senators and Congressmen ad nauseum and get only canned responses. If you are not from their particular district you must use draconian measures to even send a message. It seems a waste of time.
Years ago, when the site was still young, I made acquaintance with an L.dotter (who I had reason to believe had credibility) who told me about government experiments that had been taking place in California--and at the time, in San Diego. These experiments had to do with mind control. I know it sounds crazy, but there were examples that tied into a lot of the things that happened here that had never happened in other states before. Anyway, my point is...what if it´s possible that government has found a way to get to some vulnerable people and make them do these crazy things (like Sandy Hook shooting)? They could then blame the availability of guns and well...we know the rest... Is it completely farfetched? I don´t think so. We already know that these people in government don´t care about other people´s lives. They only care about power and wealth. Control is their ultimate goal.
#13, if I may... from memory... assuming you´re talking about amending the U.S. constitution...
I think it takes a two-thirds majority vote in each chamber of Congress (House & Senate),
then, following that, any proposed amendment would require ratification by three fourths of the states in order to be adopted as part of the constitution.
Just for the record. Correct me if it´s wrong.

I´m going to buy a gun this weekend. If I don´t do it tomorrow, I will spend next week looking for one. Any suggestions? I want a small hand gun for protection. I´m a responsible, elderly, female citizen. I want to be able to defend and protect myself.
#92 my everyday 24/7 go to weapon is a smith and weapon .357. I keep it loaded other hollow point armor piercing bullets. It makes me feel protected and feminine at the same time. Any semiautomatic assault rifle with a large capacity clip is wonderful for home protection and general piece of mind. As back up against ammo shortages, a high velocity bow with armor piercing arrows is a Godsend. Of course rocket launchers are the best protection, but you need a good dealer to find one. As a last result, and to save money, you can always hacksaw the last 12-14 inches of your 12 gauge shotgun in a pinch. This creates a fabulous and deadly weapon that is so easy transport.. God bless your decision to buy a weapon. And God help any law that takes away or restricts my rights to firearms.
Rarely purchase firearms. Don´t hunt. No patience. Don´t feel threatened in my daily life. But the next time I purchase a firearm it will be a private transaction or a gun show where I don´t have to fill out a form. When you purchase one from a gun store and you fill that form out you are giving your name and address to the government. In addition to repealing the 2nd Amendment and seizing guns, there are also fines, imprisonment, forced mental health clinics, etc. Also am not on Facebook or anything else that provides data to the government. Try to become the invisible man.
Check out the Gallery Of Guns Gun Genie to see what the left and Obama have done for gun and ammo sales. Through the roof. Try and buy a gun online, there are practically none available over night since the hysterical left has gone on an anti-gun rampage. President Obama and the lefty Dems, the world´s best gun salesmen and women.
If this proposal by liberal Democrats were to pass it would ban almost all modern firearms being produced and sold in the US today, and would wipe out most of the small arms industry along with the other allied industries who supply just about every item you can think of relating to guns, as those industries could not survive on bidding for diminishing military contracts alone.
If that were to happen many thousands of well paying American jobs in those industries would also go down the drain.
The politicians who voted for such an overreaching gun control bill that would punish and take away the rights of tens of millions of law abiding Americans for the criminal acts of several nut jobs would in a lot of cases find it very hard to get re-elected.
Lawmakers and staff can breathe easy — their health care tab is not going to soar next year. The Office of Personnel Management, under heavy pressure from Capitol Hill, will issue a ruling that says the government can continue to make a contribution to the health care premiums of members of Congress and their aides, according to several Hill sources. A White House official confirmed the deal and said the proposed regulations will be issued next week. Just Wednesday, POLITICO reported that President Barack Obama told Democratic senators that he was personally involved in finding a solution.
The Obama administration is set to unveil new procedures that will greatly expand the government’s ability to verify the income of Americans who seek government subsidies under the federal health care law. “We’re going to be sampling 100 percent. There’s new information,” Gary Cohen, deputy director of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, told the House Ways and Means Committee on Thursday. He made his assurances after Chairman Dave Camp, Michigan Republican, aired concerns that enrollees in state health exchanges will self-certify their income. The administration would have to cross-check
As they prepared to head home for summer vacation, House Republicans fired off three subpoenas Thursday seeking more information from the State Department on the terrorist attack last year in Benghazi, Libya, and on the science the Environmental Protection Agency used to impose new clean air regulations. The parting shots come amid a week of bitter partisanship that saw both the House and Senate fail to pass transportation spending bills, and saw each side point the finger at the other in arguing that Congress is broken.
Lost in all the rancor among Republicans over the National Security Agency’s surveillance programs has been this: A similar ideological divide has been exposed in the Democratic Party that could pose even more political difficulties for President Obama. Several Democrats from the party’s civil liberties wing — the mirror image of the Republicans’ rising libertarian strain — met with Obama and Republican lawmakers Thursday at the White House to discuss concerns about the NSA’s phone data collection program and elements of the administration’s broader surveillance effort.
A group of House Republicans led by Majority Leader Eric Cantor has agreed on a revision to the food stamps portion of the farm bill that Cantor believes will broadly unite the GOP conference. A senior Republican aide tells National Review Online the group has found a relatively limited change to food-stamp work requirements that could net $20 billion in savings, doubling the spending reductions of the overall bill. As part of welfare reform in 1996, able-bodied adults without dependents (i.e., kids) are required to engage in work activities for at least
Unburdened by the Constitutional requirement to obtain a search warrant, those nice people at the National Security Agency (NSA) have teamed with Apple, Google and Microsoft to take time out of their busy day to capture all your party pictures from college, intimate letters with your lover and financial activities of your business in order to build a "permanent file" for leverage against you at a later date. These are just the latest depressing revelations about the rise of the military-industrial complex from whistleblower/traitor Edward Snowden
Washington has been abuzz for months over the fear and loathing that Congressional staffers have for Obamacare. Many staffers and employees on Capitol Hill have been saying they´ll have to quit Washington if they are forced into Obamacare. Now the President is promising to fix it all for them. At the very beginning of his closed-door meeting with Senate Democrats, the President addressed staffers´ worries that Obamacare will force them to quit working in Washington, promising "I´m on it." Currently congressional staffers have 75 percent of their healthcare insurance paid by taxpayers, but
Congress began to react angrily to news that Russia granted temporary asylum to NSA leaker Edward Snowden and allowed him to finally leave the transit zone of Moscow’s Sheremetyevo Airport. “Americans in Washington should consider this a game changer in our relationship with Russia. Mr. Snowden has been charged with serious crimes and has put American lives at risk at home and abroad,” Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) said. “Today’s action by the Russian government could not be more provocative and is a sign of Vladimir Putin’s clear lack of respect for President Obama,”
It may not fully make up for President Obama’s gutting of America’s manned spaceflight program, but for now it will have to do. Star Trek’s Galileo, the fiberglass shuttlecraft featured on the “The Galileo Seven” episode of the classic ’60s sci-fi series, was officially unveiled Wednesday at Space Center Houston, the official museum/visitor center of NASA´s Johnson Space Center, where it will remain on permanent display. If nothing else, the Galileo development program proved far less costly than NASA’s $9 billion next-generation space program, Constellation, which fell victim to Mr. Obama’s budget ax in 2010.
President Obama, who extolled the value of middle-class construction jobs during nearly five years of recession and recovery, has changed his tune to borderline contempt for the blue-collar jobs needed to build the Keystone oil pipeline. In a speech in Chattanooga, Tenn., Mr. Obama actually chuckled derisively Tuesday when he mentioned that Republican lawmakers are promoting the pipeline project for the thousands of jobs it would create over two years. “They keep on talking about this — an oil pipeline coming down from Canada that’s estimated to create about 50 permanent jobs,”
Two New York Times reporters recently posited for President Obama this grim scenario: Low growth, high unemployment, and growing income inequality become "the new normal" in the nation he leads. "Do you worry," the journalists asked him, "that that could end up being your legacy simply because of the obstruction ... and the gridlock that doesn´t seem to end?" Obama´s reply was telling. "I think if I´m arguing for entirely different policies and Congress ends up pursuing policies that I think don´t make sense and we get a bad result," he said, "it´s hard to argue that´d be my legacy.
A military court Tuesday convicted Army Pfc. Bradley Manning of violating the Espionage Act for leaking hundreds of thousands of classified documents to WikiLeaks, a verdict that legal analysts say likely will have a chilling effect on others considering revealing government secrets. While Manning, 25, was acquitted of the most serious charge — aiding the enemy, which carried a penalty of life in prison without the possibility of parole — he still faces up to 136 years in prison when he is sentenced at Fort George G. Colin Powell has admitted to exchanging ´very personal´ emails with a Romanian diplomat but denies having an affair with the much younger woman after a hacker threatened to release their intimate messages. The 76-year-old retired general told the Smoking Gun that he met Corina Cretu, 45, roughly 10 years ago when she was working as an assistant to the president of Romania. She is now a member of the European Parliament. ´After I left the Department of State in January 2005 we stayed in touch via email,´ he told TSG.

The author of two New York Times bestsellers on the threats to the Constitution, Levin hopes his latest, "The Liberty Amendments," out mid-August, will spark the state lawmakers to tap a rarely used Constitutional provision to institute measures that would brake President Obama´s use of executive orders, bar thousand-page laws and

Arizona Sen. John McCain was the Republican Party´s 2008 presidential nominee and he still wants the keys to the Oval Office. But he is beginning to sound more like a fan of likely 2016 Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton. "She´s a rock star," he said in a newly released interview. "She has, maybe not glamour, but certainly the aura of someone widely regarded throughout the world," he added in a reference to her work as secretary of State. McCain, reportedly trying to win back his reputation as a GOP maverick, was asked by the New Republic
Serial sexter Anthony Weiner’s wife partly blamed herself last year when her horndog husband confessed to her that he was at it again. Friends and family told People magazine that Huma Abedin was kicking herself at the time for bailing out of couples counseling and focusing more on their newborn baby boy. But, thanks to a new round of joint therapy that continues even now, the couple was able to put the relapse behind them. “They really became a unit, and she feels much closer to Anthony now,” a relative told the magazine. That’s a long way from how Abedin
CNN has uncovered exclusive new information about what is allegedly happening at the CIA, in the wake of the deadly Benghazi terror attack. Four Americans, including Ambassador Christopher Stevens, were killed in the assault by armed militants last September 11 in eastern Libya. Sources now tell CNN dozens of people working for the CIA were on the ground that night, and that the agency is going to great lengths to make sure whatever it was doing, remains a secret. CNN has learned the CIA is involved in what one source calls an unprecedented attempt to keep the spy
Sen. John McCain — a Democrat? There was confusion Wednesday after the Arizona Republican mistakenly strolled into President Obama’s meeting with Senate Democrats at the Capitol. The room full of Democrats — who happened to be meeting in the same room where the Senate GOP usually holds their weekly policy luncheons — erupted in applause and laughter as the former Republican presidential candidate made his entrance. As McCain, 76, walked out of the Dem-filled space, reporters pressed him as to why he stepped foot in the room.
In preparation for the release of Oscar-bait film The Butler, Forest Whitaker, Oprah Winfrey, and director Lee Daniels (Precious) sat down with Parade magazine. The film chronicles a butler (Whitaker) who works in the White House through seven administrations. Winfrey plays the butler’s wife. In the interview, Winfrey explained her sadness that so few Americans know about the history of the civil rights movement: “They don’t know diddly-squat. Diddly-squat.” She then said of the historic use of the n-word, “I always think of the millions of people who heard that as their last
If we learned anything about Barack Obama in his first term it is that when he starts repeating the same idea over and over, what´s on his mind is something else. The first term´s over-and-over subject was "the wealthiest 1%." Past some point, people wondered why he kept beating these half-dead horses. After the election, we knew. It was to propagandize the targeted voting base that would provide his 4% popular-vote margin of victory—very young voters and minorities. They believed. He won. The second-term over-and-over, elevated in his summer speech tour, is the shafting of the middle class. But
[Video] Ouch. New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie turned down an offer by Sen. Rand Paul to join him for a beer and bury the hatchet in their ongoing -- and very public -- feud. "I´m running for re-election in New Jersey. I don´t really have time for that at the moment," Christie said in an interview on a local radio station. The New Jersey governor said if he finds himself in Washington, "I´ll certainly look him up." But he added: "I don´t suspect I´ll be there anytime soon. I´ve got work to do here."
Hollywood actor Kevin Spacey — whose most recent work includes the psychological thriller, “House of Cards,” about an unethical congressman — said in a recent interview that most Americans just aren’t grasping President Obama’s greatness. “President Obama will go down as having passed some of the most historic bills in the history of this country,” he said, in a recent talk with Hot Press magazine. “That despite constant knee-jerk opposition from the Republicans. A lot of people don’t realize how much he’s done in the most difficult circumstances.” Mr. Spacey is far less appreciative of Congress. “It’s maybe interesting
