| Given that hypocrisy is an important part of diplomacy, and diplomacy is necessary to foreign policy, allow me to congratulate you on winning a second term. I wish I could also congratulate you on your conduct of international affairs. I do thank you for killing Osama bin Laden. It was a creditable action for which you deserve some of the credit you´ve been given. Of course the intelligence was gathered, and the mission was undertaken, by men and women who, although they answer to your command, answer to duty first. And it is difficult to imagine

This is excellent, a must read. It is clear Mr. Obama was taught the economics of a hunter/gatherer society where there is some truth to zero sum. He hasn´t a clue about wealth creation, the hallmark of American productivity and uniqueness in this world and a place where zero sum has no meaning. Until now.

Comrade ObaMao´s zero-sum is no game.
It has been more successful at its one true purpose than any foreign enemy could have ever hoped for. The premeditated and now guaranteed economic destruction of dear leader´s only stated enemy: The God fearing, Constitution loving, gun owning and largely conservative American middle class. If you live in a "Red" state or county this means you!
Comrade ObaMao´s economic terrorism has now escalated into full-blown warfare. If this country had a press instead of a propaganda ministry everyone would know this

The spectacle of ignorant voters eagerly falling for this man´s crap is saddening and exhausting. When he was first elected the blacks were literally dancing in the streets thinking they had found their Mecca and finally it would all be all about them. Only Obama doesn´t see himself as a fellow African American. He brought them higher unemployment and more government dependency then patted them on the head and told them to shut up and do what they´re told. So they did. White people found out they could take slither into the same lifestyle and there you have it. I never thought I could take pleasure in America´s undoing but until we hit bottom there is no road out of this.

I´ve been wondering what happened to P.J. O´Rourke...haven´t seen anything out of him in a while. In true O´Rourke fashion, the article is chock full of great quotes, but this one was my favorite:
Western Europe has done such a good job redistributing its assets that the European Union now has a Spanish economy, a Swedish foreign policy, an Italian army, and Irish gigolos.

Obama and his Democratic Party cronies are cynically testing the boundaries beyond which the incentives to existing Makers to expand their businesses are significantly diminished and are no longer sufficient to encourage entrepreneurs to take the risks necessary to start new businesses.
History demonstrates time and again the dismal consequences of zero-sum, redistributionist, centralized government economic dominance. It succeeds only in spreading misery and always ends badly.
Congress, the president and a few thousand powerful government bureaucrats are incapable of managing any activity remotely as complex as our economy. Centralized government control of the marketplace has never worked anyplace it has occurred.
Circumstances change with the times, but human nature does not. There are limits beyond which free men and women refuse to be beasts of burden for their government and the people voluntarily dependent on that government. It appears that limit will be reached during Obama’s second term. And as O’Rourke points out, Obama’s foreign policy will encourage hostile foreign powers to hasten our decline and expand their regional and global influence to the detriment of all mankind.

I´ve been reading Ludwig von Mises, who states that the division of labor and all that it entails is the only means for the advancement of mankind. This requires cooperation, and all that that entails. And all this means that politics should have as its aim the fostering of cooperation among citizens.
And then there´s the Dims who believe in compulsion. "Liberal" used to mean promoting policies which foster cooperation.
When I was young it used to be a common expression that "you can´t legislate morals." Now the Dims have the mob ginned up to legislate morals as a smoke screen to increase compulsion and loot the treasury.

This is a good article, many more like it are needed but I fear that the message of zero sum and the need for growth still do not break it down enough to reach an Obama voter. We need to point out that the hated rich will be poorer but the poor will be much poorer. One of the articles I saw here not long ago mentioned that under Obama the gap between rich and poor is widening. Another element is that Obama redistributes wealth not from rich to poor but from makers to takers. In many cases the makers are far from rich but they are making it on their own without becoming dependent on the government. They are part of the private sector and they are being impoverished to pay the bloated pensions and save the jobs of a burgeoning unproductive public sector who are usually better off! Obama is hiring hundreds of people per day in the public sector and the unemployment rate in the public sector is near zero while the unemployment rate in the private sector is really 15% or higher while Obama declares the private sector is doing just fine. We are not far from the day when two poor private sector workers will he hiring one well paid public sector person to make regulations and harass him for everything he does. On top of this he is expected to generate the wealth to look after another person who refuses to work. Clearly this cannot continue!

"He knows exactly what he is doing, and he knows exactly what the result will be. He also knows how to format what he wants to do"
Obama knows nothing, understands nothing, plans nothing. He is a stooge, cardboard cutout, marionette, brainless mouthpiece for the communist cabal, led by Valerie Jarrett, running the WH and the country.
Jarrett tells him what to say when he opens his mouth. Sadly, she often forgets to tell him to shut it.

Historically have loved PJ, but in a world where powerful interests have a choke hold on the money via lower interest that is *not* trickling down to small business, so that these corporate thugs might ´make more pizzas´ in freaking China, this philosophy is outdated.
Beyond that, it comes dangerously close to New Age "the Secret" Thinking, which is complete bs.
Which is not to say Obama´s acceptance and perpetuation of that situation isn´t wholly depressing - because it is.

PJ is certainly right about the perils of redistributionist policies, both within our country and from us to the rest of the world (it never goes the other way).
But his first 3 points about the Taliban, Iraq, and the EU suggest he doesn´t understand that really curtailing the gifts from the U.S. taxpayer to the world should also encompass military excursions that are of evident worth to other countries and limited worth to us.
We should stop intervening in religious and tribal wars, and we should stop financing the defense of European nations, Japan and S. Korea. It is time to let other cultures solve their problems within the context of their own cultures, instead of trying to bribe everyone into acting like Americans.
What we must do is retrench, stop making international donations, and be a shining example of the glories of freedom and capitalism, for other countries to emulate as they wish. Of course, this is impossible while Obama and the Democrats have their boots on our necks.

A bipartisan group of senators has struck a deal to expand gun background checks to all commercial sales — whether at gun shows, via the Internet or in any circumstance involving paid advertising, according to Senate aides familiar with the talks. The proposed agreement would be more stringent than current law, which requires checks only when purchases are made through a licensed dealer, but less than originally sought by President Obama and congressional Democrats, who were seeking to expand background checks to nearly every kind of sale.

President Obama’s long-awaited budget proposal, to be released today, does not come right out and say that intends to reduce contributions to charity—but that is almost certainly what would happen were it to become law. Here’s why. The White House has effectively doubled down on a tax change it has been pushing for four years that would limit the value of the charitable tax deduction. The Administration has, since 2009, pushed unsuccessfully to allow only 28 cents on a dollar donated to charity to be deducted—even

President Obama’s budget to be released on Wednesday would leave the nation with a $744 billion budget deficit in 2014 despite new entitlement cuts and tax hikes. The $1.058 trillion budget for fiscal year 2014 — which will arrive on Capitol Hill about two months late — would turn off the automatic spending cuts known as the sequester and raise $580 billion in new tax revenue over ten years by limiting tax deductions for upper-income households.

We must not lose focus on the end goal of progressives regarding guns. Make no mistake; regardless of what they say, their ultimate goal is confiscation of all guns in America. And a "universal background check" will get them closer to this nirvana than the banning of a few selected weapons ever could. As we know from the climate change farce, progressives are never deterred by reality´s refusal to fall in line with the theories they use to justify their authoritarian advances. This obstinacy reveals the extent to which, contrary to honest reasoning, their political agenda determines their theoretical framework, rather than vice versa. Nowhere is this more evident than with regard to the most fundamental premise of progressivism itself, namely the repeatedly falsified mythology of "progress." The propensity for what we may call pseudo-theorizing has been at the heart of progressivism from the start.

President Barack Obama is firmly committed to pushing an anti-gun agenda. He´s so steadfast in his conviction that he was willing to fly, on his $180K per hour magic carpet, the families of the children and school workers that perished in Newtown, Connecticut all the way to Washington DC. After breakfast, Sandy Hook family members participated in a mini anti-gun-violence, sympathy-fueled arm-twisting session where, in an effort to persuade reluctant senators to sway his way on the issue of gun control, the grieving were exploited.

It has been said that an actuary is someone who really wanted to be an accountant but didn´t have the personality for it. See who´s laughing now. Things are starting to get very interesting, actuarially-speaking. Federal bankruptcy judge Christopher Klein ruled on April 1 that Stockton, Calif., can file for bankruptcy via Chapter 9 (Chapter 11´s ugly cousin). The ruling may start the actuarial dominoes falling across the country, because Stockton´s predicament stems from financial assumptions that are hardly restricted to one improvident California municipality.

Beginning a week of high pressure on gun control, the White House on Monday accused some Republican senators of cowardice for planning to filibuster gun legislation without allowing the full Senate to vote on President Obama’s initiatives. “If they oppose this legislation, have the courage to say so on the floor and vote no,” said White House press secretary Jay Carney. “Don’t block it. Don’t hide behind a procedural action to prevent a vote. That’s the wrong thing to do, and that’s how the president clearly feels.”

However, any deal could be derailed by the looming threat of a Republican filibuster involving Texas Sen. Ted Cruz. With Cruz standing proudly in the way of any gun legislation, Democrats are trying to make him pay a political price — and even a couple of high-profile Republicans are questioning his tactics.
