Cornell West On Sandy
Hook: ‘We Can’t Just Shed
Tears For Those On The
Vanilla Side Of Town’

Mediaite, by Noah Rothman

Original Article

Posted By:JoniTx, 12/27/2012 6:02:04 PM

Princeton University Professor Dr. Cornel West appeared on the Tavis Smiley radio show on Thursday where he weighed in with his thoughts on how the media and lawmakers are responding to the tragic massacre of teachers and children in Newtown, Connecticut. West expressed his frustration over how eagerly the media demanded a conversation about gun laws after Newtown, but seems unmoved by endemic gun violence in America’s cities where the victims are primarily minorities. “We can’t just shed tears for those on the vanilla side of town,” West said.” They are precious, but they are no less or more

I agree with Dr. West, although I might have said it a bit more diplomatically.
And I would ask Dr. West why he didn´t say anything when the mayor of Chicago, the Rahmster, had nothing to say about the shootings in Chicago except to tell the shooters to stay away from little children as they shot each other...

West actually has a point, of course, but spoils the grain of intelligence he shows by, in effect, calling the victims "vanilla." If people like him would keep race out of the equation people might actually start thinking about the accuracy of what he says, now it´s just more racism.

Every time we try to bring up the gun problem on the ´´chocolate´´ side of town, we are accused of being racists for stating the sad truth that it is black-on-black violence nearly 100% of the time in the biggest problem areas like Chicago and Detroit.

Statistics have shown over and over again that you are most likely to be killed by someone of your own race. But that happens at a much higher percentage of the population among blacks than any other group.

And if someone is killed by someone outside of their race, it is almost always a young black male doing the killing.

Until blacks are willing to let down the wall of racism as an instant defense and actually deal with the problem in their own communities, no gun control or any other method is going to stop the violence in a very large part of this country!!!

I agree with him. Obama doesn´t show up to memorials from the ´hood, does he? Nobody in the control community wants too talk about those strict gun law areas that are rife with gun deaths. Why? Because they are covered by strict laws and they are pretty much a lost cause. And why are they lost? Because the lifestyle that is destroying them is encouraged, exploited and even glorified by the entertainment industry and the Democrat party.

Many of us on the Right have been howling about the lack of news coverage of black-on-black murders in Chicago alone. It´s not Chocolate Town, it´s not Vanilla Town, it´s violence perpetrated by our children against our children!

Why does Professor West assume that no one - Whitey, that is - cares about the hideous realities of murderous violence and crushing unemployment and grinding poverty and fatherless homes that is plaguing our inner cities? Does Professor West also think that no one cares about the financial disaster that the Obama administration has brought to African-Americans, who have been devastated by this endless economic downturn?

Well, I care about these things, and that´s why I can´t help but wonder why so many blacks voted for this guy. Wait until modest earners - black and white - get a lok at their first paychecks of 2013 - just in time for Obama´s second inauguration. Will they suddenly miss W and his "tax cuts for the rich"?

Anyway he asked the fools in New Orleans to re-elect him and KEEP THEIR CITY ´CHOCOLATE´, they re-elected him...unbelievable! Anyhow you meathead prof, why aren´t you insisting on the media and the president being there to help everybody instead of stealing the money for their districts??? Had it been a disaster for a whole lot of blacks the bales of money would still be rolling in...we are NOT blind or dumb!

First sentence of #1 sums it up.

But it is media, not the people, which decides the relative attention paid to Chicago blacks killed and, say, some Seattle whites killed.

The fact is that multiple killings get attention in a way that individual killings will not. If 25 people et shot at a school in Chicago there will be plenty of attention regardless of what color the children are.

By traditional standards, the 2012 presidential election should have hinged on who offered the best ideas for dealing with the nation´s high unemployment and tepid economic growth – with most of the attention on the incumbent´s fiscal stewardship. It didn´t work out that way. Instead, President Obama and his team ran a relentlessly negative campaign, with the news media, to paraphrase Bob Dylan, going along for the ride. When Democrats did deign to discuss the economy, they essentially claimed Paul Ryan would roll your grandmother off a cliff in her wheelchair –

If the purpose of the new National Museum of African American History and Culture at the Smithsonian is to remember racial controversies, as the proposed Trayvon exhibit seems to confirm, then how about an honest look at the phenomenon of hate crime hoaxes? Particular attention should be paid to the role of the media in both the Trayvon and Tawana materials. Unquestionably, the media stirred up racial animus, and these incidents both contributed to raising racial tensions.
