| Dianne Feinstein has announced that she will introduce sweeping gun control legislation in the Senate. Under her bill, countless standard handguns apparently would now be banned, and for the first time a federal register that may include many millions of gun owners, fingerprinted and photographed, would be created. (snip) There is a great deal to be said about this, and much that is still not known, such as the identification of the 120 firearms that are to be specifically banned, or the 900 that are to be exempted.

If We, the People sit on our hands and allow this ban to take place a dictatorship is all but assured! The Democrats think that the wind is at their backs on this issue due to the CT tragedy! My gut feeling is that they will ram this through like Obamacare. It will be over 1,000 pages long, be named "The Omnibus Citizen Protection and Gun Safety Bill", and the Supreme Court will eventually declare it valid.

Sickening.
Not sure if such a ban would pass constitutional muster because the Heller decision stated that handguns in "common usage" could not be banned. Of course such a challenge would take years to sort out, and after Obamacare, who the heck can predict how the SCOTUS will rule?

Registration and confiscation schemes did not go well in Feinstein´s home state of CA. Local LE types weren´t about to go door-to-door, and if they did lawyers were circling like vultures waiting to take the state/local entities to court. They were even taking out ads in the fishwraps on advising gun owners how to proceed if, and big if, LE should show up at the front door. This is a lot of bluster for a lady who carries concealed.

We need to ask: How will your local police respond? Are they on the side of the Bill of Rights, or are they on the side of a ´want a be dictator´ who has been pumping money into their ´war chests´ for the last four years? Our county police dept. has purchased several military type vehicles and several Barrett .50 cal rifles and other goodies all thanks to Obummer´s stimulis bill. Who do they plan to use these on! It sure isn´t the radical muslims!

#9 asks a very good question. There are many police officers who really don´t believe you need a handgun.
And how will registration be enacted/enforced?
Also, "Certain other semiautomatic rifles, handguns, shotguns that can accept a detachable magazine and have one military characteristic"
What is a "military characteristic"? I suspect that they could deem all semiautomatic rifles handguns, and shotguns to have "at least one" such characteristic.

After registration will come confiscation and the exterminations of a now disarmed citizenry. Their 900 exempted weapons came out about a month before the CT tradgedy. Planned gun control? Before the stolen election, the NRA warned that obozo was going to introduce radical gun control measures. The NRA was right!

In response to #9, I´m pretty sure I know what local, county and state law enforcement in this part of the country would NOT do, and that is take part in the confiscation of weapons. The National Guard won´t participate either. Those folks are neighbors, friends, family, and all own personal firearms themselves, the same as virually every person that I know (and I meet many, many people). I realize that people from the large, "bright blue" urban areas and/or northern and west coast states may have less confidence in the authorities. If the fools in DC wnat some "social upheaval", they are on the right path with this idiocy from the CA whats-her-name.

A good counter to this action would be to start hundreds of local militias to make sure that there is a coordinated response to any government misdeeds like this. These people can not be allowed to confiscate our property or we spit in the faces of all patriots who came before us and did what had to be done. These people and their ear leader sound stupid for what they are proposing but it will produce the same results that a smart guy like Hitler would want.

I see Drudge has Feinstein´s proposal as the main story and is linked as "Civil War: Senate To Go For Handguns."
I understand headlines inherently have an element of hyperbole to pull readers in. However, before those less aware dismiss Drudge´s headline concerning Feinstein´s proposal as mere hyperbole, they had best take a look at the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, and the first battles of the American Revolution.
There are those who will take to arms to defend the Constitution of the United States and the God-given rights it was enacted to protect.
While these may be seen as extreme measures by those in ruling elite, the reality is this is no more "extreme" than a government - whose only power is that delegated to it by the People - which would forcibly (at the pain of death, if necessary) disarm law abiding citizens.
As many here are aware, the Left´s call for the disarmament of individuals has noting to do with safety, and everything to do with raw power. The Left relies upon compulsion as its means of enacting its policies, however, ultimately, armed men and women will resist tyranny.

"One military characteristic" could be defined as any semi-automatic firearm having a trigger, because all military small arms have a trigger. The liberals would do that in a minute if they thought such a definition would ban more firearms.
How about your gun collection, the "grandfathered" guns in which could no longer be transferred when you die to your sons and daughters, instead they would then be confiscated by the ATF.
As far as national firearms registration goes, I think the Canadians just got rid of their registration system that they found was too expensive and did not deter anyone from doing anything bad.

Civil War officers used to say that you can’t lead from the rear. Thousands of them gave their lives, leading their men the only way they knew how. No one asks Barack Obama to give up more than an occasional game of golf, but he still can’t bring himself to lead. In one of his administration’s many low moments, a White House aide explained Obama’s style as “leading from behind,” as though he were proud of it. The budget is a typical case in point. After four long years, Senate Democrats have finally been shamed into obeying the law and producing a budget. Patty Murray, the new chairman

Newt Gingrich met yesterday with some Republican Congressional staffers and gave them the memo below, which I obtained from a Congressional aide. Much of it will seem familiar to readers of this site, but Newt sets forth the facts–many of them grim–with his customary panache. The fight between the White House and journalistic legend Bob Woodward is a silly distraction to a major problem: The failure of President Obama and House Republicans to lead the country under a budget deadline. Woodward-gate is a distraction the White House welcomed, even encouraged, as part of a public-relations strategy to emasculate the GOP and anybody else who challenges Obama. It is a distraction that briefly enveloped my reporting last weekend, when I essentially broke ties with a senior White House official.

From William Jacobson at Legal Insurrection, we learn about the case of Uwe and Hannelore Romeike and their children: The Romeikes are devout Christians from Germany who wanted to homeschool their children because of what they perceived as the secularist agenda in German public schools. In the United States, the right to homeschool ones’ own children is accepted, although frequently mocked by the left. The homeschoool movement is thriving in the United States, but in Germany it is illegal, a holdover from Nazi-era law.

I have it on excellent authority that, with the sequester looming, House Republicans will pass a bill to provide the various federal departments and agencies with the power to prioritize where cuts go in each organization. The total amount of cuts within a department or agency would be the same, but the cuts could be made on a more rational basis. (snip) It has two virtues. From a policy standpoint, it will improve the sequester (if that’s what we end up with) by making it less of a blunt instrument. From a political standpoint, it improves the Republicans position.

A cafeteria food fight turned into a riot at South High School in Minneapolis yesterday. The school’s security officers were insufficient to the task. Police officers dispatched to the scene sprayed mace and placed the school on lockdown to get a handle on the situation. Three or four students and a staff member ended up in the hospital. What’s going on? The Star Tribune discreetly reports that parents and students ascribe the hostilities to “racial tensions between Somali-American students and others.” Who might those others be?

Cody Wilson cheerfully describes himself as a crypto-anarchist. “Crypto” modifies “anarchist” in the sense not that it obscures it but that it points to a means: cryptology, code, communication, and technology as the last, best hope for a radical freedom. Recent research indicates that the number of people who do not consider themselves a part of an organized religion is steadily on the rise. Interestingly enough, though the number of those religiously unaffiliated is increasing, there is little to no trend in the number of those who express atheist or agnostic beliefs. People aren’t saying they don’t believe in God. They’re saying they don’t believe in religion. They are not rejecting Christ. They are rejecting the church. This begs the question, “Why are we losing our religion?”

The 34-year-old information management officer was one of four Americans murdered in the Benghazi embassy attack on September 11, 2012. In the chilling interview, a distraught Ms. Smith, in tears, pleaded for answers and spoke of the efforts to silence her. Ms. Smith first relayed how her son, prior to the attack, requested additional security in advance and warned the State Department: He did tell them, ahead of time, he typed it into his little typewriter over there,

Put out an all-points bulletin: Millions of Americans have gone missing from the workforce. Every month that those would-be workers are gone raises the odds that they might never come back, dimming the prospects for future economic growth. The vanishing trend is more than a decade old, but it accelerated during the Great Recession. Throughout 2012, economists held out hope that it had stopped. But then came Friday’s jobs report, and hopes were dashed. The Labor Department reported that the U.S. labor force — everyone who has a job or is looking for one — shrank

"Right now I´m grateful to live in a city, a state and a country where I strongly support my mayor, my governor, my president and my senators and my representative," said Clinton, whose father, Bill, was president from 1993-2001 and her mother, Hillary

Gluten-free diets are all the rage, but they can be dangerous if not done right. What is gluten? It´s the spongy complex of proteins, found naturally in wheat, rye, and barley, that gives elasticity to dough and allows it to rise. When flour is moistened and either kneaded or mixed into dough, gluten molecules form an elastic, microscopic latticework that traps the carbon dioxide produced when yeast ferments, causing dough to inflate like a hot air balloon. Baking hardens the gluten, which helps the finished product keep its shape. Wheat — and gluten — is ubiquitous in the American diet.
