| First lady Michelle Obama said she did not want to run for elected office because she felt she lacked the patience needed to accomplish change in Washington. The first lady was asked, in an interview with ABC´s Barbara Walters released late Wednesday, why she had ruled out launching a bid for office herself. "I have learned from my husband, watching him, that it does require a great deal of patience to really feel the full impact of the work that you do on the ground," the first lady said. "It doesn´t happen right away."

The Senate’s Gang of Eight on Tuesday released the details of a broad agreement to overhaul the nation’s immigration laws. The legislation would give provisional legal status to an estimated 11 million illegal immigrants and put them on a pathway to citizenship but only after a list of criteria for securing the U.S.-Mexico border are achieved. It sets goals of persistent surveillance in high-risk areas along the Southern border — sectors where more than 30,000 individuals are apprehended trying to enter the country illegally per year — and a 90-percent effectiveness rate for apprehensions in high-risk sectors.

Since he first became a presidential candidate, President Obama must have spent millions of dollars in legal expenses to combat dozens of so-called "birther" challenges seeking the original documents pertaining to his birth.
