Kerry Bentivolio, Congressman Claus
National Review Online, by Betsy Woodruff

Original Article

Michigan’s Thaddeus McCotter is many things — guitar player, chain smoker, ill-fated presidential candidate, and Led Zeppelin quoter — but he is not an expert at hiring competent people. This year, his staff failed to collect the requisite signatures to put his name on the Republican-primary ballot to keep his House seat. And a race that should have been over before it started got really, really weird. When the dust settled, only one name was left on the primary ballot: that of Kerry Bentivolio, a Santa Claus impersonator and former schoolteacher who’s served in three wars and owns six

Oh this will be fun! I´ll miss Thaddeus McCotter however this guy should be lots of laughs and he may do some good. At least we know he is a true patriot and a bit of a character. Not the usual fawning toads sent to DC.

Last week brought a chilling reminder of how mercilessly some liberals will work to silence and marginalize people who hold views with which they disagree. Even for those of us who support same-sex marriage, the virtual manhunt of Mozilla chief Brendan Eich was scary to watch. (Snip) Another incident of muzzling those without the proper worldview received less attention. Kickstarter, the nation´s biggest crowd-funding site, refused to accept a film about convicted abortion doctor Kermit Gosnell unless descriptions of his crimes were removed. Great Britain’s Iron Lady passed away a year ago today, on April 8, 2013. Her death, at the age of 87, left a huge void on the world stage, one that may never be filled. Margaret Thatcher was a political titan who transformed her home nation from the “sick man of Europe” into a resurgent economic power. Implementing conservative policies that emphasized individual liberty and economic freedom, Thatcher lifted a nation ravaged by Socialism off its deathbed, restoring Britain’s prosperity and self-confidence. She was also a fearless leader internationally, standing shoulder to shoulder with Ronald Reagan in opposition to the Soviet

Holder told Congress, “I mean, I think that one of the things we learned when we were trying to get passed those common sense reforms last year, Vice President Biden and I had a meeting with a group of technology people and talked about how guns can be made more safe by making them either through fingerprint identification — the gun talks to a bracelet or something you might wear — how the gun can only be used by the person who is lawfully in possession of the weapon.” That wouldn’t stop any gunman on a rampage. The Washington Times reports that a New Jersey school in the Vernon Schools system suspended a 13-year-old boy last Thursday. His “crime” — twirling a pencil in his fingers. Another kid behind him yelled “He’s making gun motions, send him to juvie!” According to AWR Hawkins, that kid had been bullying Ethan Chaplin, the kid who was twirling the pencil. And the idiots in charge of the school took the bullying to an entire new level. The school suspended him. It ordered him to undergo both a psychological and a physiological examination. The poll, commissioned by the Republican Governor´s Association, was conducted on March 19 and 20 and asked 600 likely voters in New Hampshire who they would vote for in the U.S. Senate election. Respondents were given both Brown and Shaheen´s names and their respective parties. Dems seek to demonize justices

Senate Democrats and liberal groups are mounting a pressure campaign against the Supreme Court, hoping to influence future decisions by blasting conservative justices for alleged political bias. The effort from the left also portrays the high court as an instrument rigged to help the wealthy, and is intended to energize Democratic voters and increase turnout in the midterm elections. Some legal experts see the effort as akin to basketball or soccer players “working the ref” in a high-stakes game. Critics say Democratic leaders used a similar strategy in 2010, when they piled on the court for striking down the ban on political spending

Silicon Valley has a trust problem, and it´s growing. Some of this is the result of National Security Agency spying — and the tech community´s cooperation with same — and some of it is based on other things tech leaders are doing. But the worst of it is based on who our tech overlords have become. The NSA spying has already done harm enough. As Glenn Derene warned in Popular Mechanics when the story first broke, fear of NSA spying is giving a boost to offshore competitors, as companies and users seek hardware and software without back doors and compromised security

In an extended interview with Fox News´ Shannon Bream, the former Florida governor gave the impression of someone who would like to be president but has been out of the game for a while and isn´t particularly eager to jump in the trenches and fight for it. Kathryn Riffenburg decided on a closed casket for her baby´s funeral. She didn´t want her family to see what whooping cough, her son´s first illness, had done to 9-week-old Brady Alcaide. The nearly forgotten disease, which has in recent years afflicted thousands of Americans, left Brady´s tiny body swollen and unrecognizable. So his mother dressed him in a white baptismal suit and hat and tucked him into a tiny white casket. Sharpton´s special relationship with the Justice Department may also explain why his NAN has been allowed to skirt responsibility for $1.9 million in back taxes and penalties it has owed the IRS since 2006

When friends and family members gathered recently at the White House for a private celebration of Michelle Obama’s 50th birthday, one of the invited partygoers was a former paid FBI Mafia informant. That same man attended February’s state dinner in honor of French President Francois Hollande. He was seated with his girlfriend at a table adjacent to President Barack Obama, who is likely unaware that, according to federal agents, his guest once interacted with members of four of New York City’s five organized crime families. He even secretly taped some of those wiseguys using a briefcase that FBI technicians outfitted

Democrats are facing a senior problem that could get even worse this year. The party has traditionally had trouble with older voters, losing the group aged 65 and over by 21 points in 2010 — when Republicans picked up 63 seats — and by 12 points in the 2012 presidential race. Seniors are the GOP’s most reliable voting bloc in midterm years, turning out in higher numbers than Democratic base voters. A recent Gallup poll showed seniors have become even more Republican over the last two decades; in 2013, 48 percent considered themselves Republican. That spells trouble for Democrats, who are already facing

LONDON - Peaches Geldof, the wild-child second daughter of concert organizer Bob Geldof who worked as a model, a television presenter and a fashion writer and filled the pages of British tabloids with her late-night antics, has died at age 25. There was no immediate word on the cause of her death at her home in Wrotham, Kent, southeast England. Her father said in a statement Monday: "Peaches has died. We are beyond pain." "She was the wildest, funniest, cleverest, wittiest and the most bonkers of all of us," he said. "Writing 'was' destroys me afresh. What a beautiful child. How is this possible that we will not see her again? How is that bearable? We loved her and will cherish her forever."
