I own an assault rifle. My uncle brought it back from the Philippines after WWII. The bayonet is nice, too. As for what I would use on an intruder, I have a bat. I have a reproduction Lord of the Rings Glamdring sword (Gandolph´s. Stainless steel with a mean point and about a yard long. Nice balance.).

Of course, the Sig is nice if I don´t want to get too close.

I bought my Glock in 2000 just in case Manbearpig won the election.

I have been handling firearms since I was 9yrs old. Used to go hunting with my dad. Since then I´ve handled and fired many different weapons up to and including a .50 caliber machine gun. (that was in my military days). It´s best to be highly trained by a qualified instructor and continue to use your training on the firing range. It´s useless to own a firearm and not to know how to use it, safely, and not maintain proficiency with it. I prefer a .357 magnum with a 6 inch barrel. Also, a noted, a pump .12gage is a good choice too.

The Sandy Hook shooter was not a lawful firearm owner. Since legislation cannot control people´s deciding to stealing others´ (even their mothers´) firearms and create this latest carnage with them, the guns have got to go.

The AR as in AR15 doesn´t stand for assualt rifle it stands for armalite. I think people haven´t done their homework about rifles. An AR15 platform is used by the military it is just like any other semi-automatic weapon, you have to pull the trigger every time you want to fire it, unless you have converted it to an automatice firing rifle. I would hazard a guess that maybe 1 to 2% have been converted illegally to an automatic fire and that most of those are possessed by criminals and gang members. If Congress passes legislation imposing the pre ban rules that those who vote to impose will be let out at the next election. If they attempt to outlaw weapons completely they are going to have one hell of a time trying to enforce it. One only has to harken back to World War II and the fact that the Japanese had no intention of invading the US because they knew that so many Americans were armed that it would be difficult, if not impossible, to fight every body in the US who were armed. The Democrats should understand that gun owners will not give their weapons voluntarily and if they try to take them by force there will be a civil war here.

2nd Amendment is about Tyranny of people who aim this thing called government at us.

As a grandmother living next to young grandchildren I do not have a gun (although my son next door does). I do have the wooden bat but even more effective in my opinion the far-shooting wasp spray that supposedly must be treated at the er to get relief. My 6 year old grandson got his first squirrel hunting gun last night on Christmas Eve.

Yesterday, an on-duty 30 year old female officer from a nearby peaceful suburb was found murdered sometime between 3-5 am. No one knows (at this point) what happened. This sort of thing rarely occurs around here.

I´ve never owned or been exposed to firearms but am seriously considering taking a course & purchasing a handgun for protection. Saw Joe Scarbrough this morning state that an AR 15 with a high capacity mag could fire "thousands of rounds per/min". I flew with a mini gun that could fire 5000 rounds per/min, but it had six barrels an a 5 sec limit switch. Otherwise the barrels would melt.Don´t think Joe knows how much a thousand rounds weights. Also cheap high capacity mags tend to mal function. If they limit mags to 15 rounds, all you need to do is tape two together, and it makes them more reliable.
PS Ever fire a shotgun with a cut round?

My hubbly and I are going gun shopping in the next few days. A shotgun for him and a girl gun for me. (Suggestions appreciated.) I am going to take lessons and get my CCW in 2013.

At this point, I am afraid of guns and I don´t want to be anymore. There is an indoor shooting range here that has ladies night where you pay $20 to rent the pistol and take a shooting lesson. I figure it´s a good start.

Good on ya #30. I have a Ruger SR9c, it is a terrific little gun that fits my girl hands and it has enough of a kick for this old gal.
I find a 40 cal is too heavy to carry all the time and the recoil is a bit much for me.

The womens classes at our range are all booked and they had to add more. I am so glad that the ladies are getting serious about firearms.

My group of gals are taking a carbine class in February, just for a refresher. We shoot twice a month then have dinner. Forget the mall, the range is where you´ll find us girlies.

#30, when I was looking to purchase a gun in 2000, I went to our local shooting range, where one can rent guns by the hour for use there, and I tried several,l,. A friend who is a deputy sheriff and on a SWAT team also loaned me his personal Glock to try out. I finally settled on a Glock 26 9mm sub compact. It´s small enough for my 60 year old female hands, has less kick than others I tried and was the weapon I was most accurate with.

Wish I could find a M2 Carbine, .30 caliber. The Founding Fathers wrote the 2nd Amendment to protect us from people like Barack Hussein Obama and his Crony in Chief, Eric Holder.

Keep the 12 guage, 7-shot w/ 00 buck for the house, or behind the pick-up truck seat. 1 full size 1911, because I like them, and just upgraded to a Kimber Ultra- Carry w/ a 3" barrel in .45. Feel better already!

#30, many women prefer revolvers vs. pistols because loading the semi-automatic clips can be difficult. Ruger makes the LCR, a nice lightweight revolver. Disclaimer: I am a happy owner of Ruger stock for the last few years.

#30, I would suggest a good quality .380 if your hands are really small, otherwise one of the slim 9mm´s would do just fine. Take a reputable course, practice often and also practice reloading in the dark.

#30, I´d recommend some reading at www.corneredcat.com, then borrow several different models in several different calibers. Guns are like clothes, cars, or shoes - If someone picks it out for you, it´ll be a miracle if you like it.

#26, I wouldn´t count on the wasp spray. I seriously doubt it would do more than surprise the intruder and have next to zero effect on his agression. If you are going to use something like this get some pepper spray and test the range and pattern so you know how to use it. I know there is a forward that has been circulating stating that wasp spray has better range than pepper spray--I doubt it and I also doubt pyrethrins would cause immediate harm in humans.

Take a class. Get your carry permit if possible.

Find your nearest range, spend some time putting rounds through your self defense weapon. Good for you, good for the gun. Get comfortable loading and unloading your guns, loading magazines, practicing safety procedures. The guys at the range will be happy to help you and answer your questions. Good people. A gun is a tool and like any tool, you need to know how to use it safely and correctly.

Teach your kids gun safety from birth, take the mystery out of it. Take them to the range with you when you deem them old enough to follow the rules. Show them what those guns can do. It´s a powerful and lasting lesson and may very well impress them with the fact that guns must always be respected.

These are things everyone should do.

Oh and good choice #33... I am a lady and have been carrying a Glock 26 daily for 7 years now. Has never jammed, never even blinked at me when I have pulled the trigger at the range. I keep her clean and tidy. Love that gun. Highly recommend it for CC for any lady.
