Outgoing S.C. Sen. Jim DeMint
shook up Washington

McClatchy Newspapers, by James Rosen

Original Article

Posted By:Judy W., 12/24/2012 12:28:33 PM

For his first eight years in Washington, Jim DeMint was like most members of Congress – relatively quiet, fairly innocuous and pretty much unknown outside his state. Over his final six years in the Senate, DeMint rocked national politics like an earthquake, gaining fame and notoriety that few lawmakers can claim. Reveling in his nickname as “Sen. Tea Party,” the Greenville Republican rode that populist uprising, fueling it with his uncompromising, in-your-face opposition to nearly all manner of federal spending.

My thanks to Sen. DeMint, who not only had to defend himself against the vicious liberal democrats, but also against the elite branch of the Republican party.
He is worth 20 McCains or Lindsey Grahams or Mitch McConnells.

DeMint ruined the GOP´s chances of taking back the senate with his extreme little darlings like Akin. Good riddance! The man is lost in the past.

#2 - I disagree - Would there more like Sen. De Mint, who has had the clarity of thought regarding the spending problems of government and the courage to stand up for what he believes is right for the country. Such integrity is sorely missing in todays gutter politics. He will have immense influence for good over at Heritage

Judge says prosecutors should

I’ve addressed the problem of prosecutorial misconduct here a few times before — both its prevalence, and the fact that misbehaving prosecutors are rarely sanctioned or disciplined. Recently (or perhaps the better word is finally), some judges have begun to speak out about the problem including, most notably, Alex Kozinski, the influential judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit. Late last year, South Carolina State Supreme Court Justice Donald Beatty joined Kozinski. At a state solicitors’ convention in Myrtle Beach, Beatty cautioned that prosecutors in the state have been “getting away with too much for too long.”

President Obama entered office promising to restore the sanctity of science. Instead, a fresh war against science, statistics, and reason is being waged on behalf of politically correct politics. After the Sandy Hook tragedy, the president attempted to convert national outrage into new gun-control legislation. Specifically, he focused on curtailing semi-automatic “assault” rifles. But there is no statistical evidence that such guns — semi-automatic rifles that have mostly cosmetic changes to appear similar to banned military-style fully automatic assault weapons — lead to increased gun-related crimes.(Snip) Late-term abortions used to be justified in part by an argument dating back to the

The Senate Thursday rejected a bill aimed at curbing military sexual assault by stripping military commanders of prosecutorial authority. The vote was 55-45, and fell short of the approval of 60 lawmakers needed to end debate on the legislation authored by Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, D-N.Y. Gillibrand’s bill would have given the power to prosecute sexual assault cases to independent military lawyers operating out of the alleged victim’s chain of command. Gillibrand authored the bill in response to testimony from sexual assault victims in the military, who said their cases were not taken seriously by commanders. Gillibrand said her bill would

These stories read like something out of a political thriller. The first series, “Tainted Justice,” earned them a Pulitzer Prize and was turned into a newly-published book, Busted: A Tale of Corruption and Betrayal in the City of Brotherly Love. It explores police corruption within the Philadelphia narcotics department. The second ongoing series, “Perfect Prey,” chronicles fraud within the Social Security system involving payee representatives. American Thinker had the privilege of interviewing

It´s official name is the "Fairness for All Marylanders Act of 2014," but some are calling it the "Bathroom Bill." The legislation, which passed the State Senate on Tuesday, would ban discrimination based on gender identity when it comes to public accommodations such as restaurants, hotels and retail shops. But Washington County Delegate Neil Parrott (R) says it would allow anyone to use any public restroom, regardless of sex. House Oversight Committee Chairman Darrell Issa joined Megyn Kelly Thursday night to react to the uproar over him cutting off Elijah Cummings‘ mic during a contentious IRS hearing, saying that accusations he was “racist” are just “beneath response.” Issa suggested Cummings’ outburst was a “pre-staged event,” but Kelly asked, “Who cares? Let him have his couple of minutes to rip on you! You’re a big guy, you can take it!” He acknowledged that in hindsight, he might have let Cummings rant, but it’s completely unjustified for any member of Congress to try and get his chairmanship revoked over the incident

So, Lois Lerner still won´t talk about her role in the illegal targeting and harassment by the IRS of conservative and Tea Party groups seeking 501(c)(4) tax exemptions. Lerner appeared for a second time Wednesday before the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform and claimed her Fifth Amendment right not to incriminate herself. It isn´t hard to figure out why Lerner´s lips are sealed. First, she knows the House of Representatives can cite her for contempt of Congress, but Attorney General Eric Holder would decide whether she is prosecuted on that charge. During his speech to the CPAC crowd on Thursday, Sen. McCain fired back at Cruz during an appearance on MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell Reports. McCain said he spoke to Cruz about the comments and it was “cordial” but he took specific offense at the remarks concerning Dole. “He can say what he wants to about me and he can say anything he wants to about Mitt,” McCain said,

Via Matt Lewis, here’s Maverick once again demonstrating that “cordial relationship” in politico-speak means “two people who can’t publicly admit to hating each other but obviously do.” And it’s a cheap shot. Cruz’s point yesterday at CPAC was that Dole, McCain, and Romney lost because they weren’t conservative enough. That’s not because they’re gutless — he said specifically that they were “good” and “decent” men — but because they’re not committed, full-throated ideologues, even less so when they’re fighting for purple states in a national election. We can debate whether that’s true but there’s nothing offensive in raising the subject.

What’s been said of confession — that it is good for one’s soul but bad for one’s reputation — can also be true of testifying to Congress, so Lois Lerner has chosen to stay silent. Hers, however, is an eloquent silence. The most intrusive and potentially most punitive federal agency has been politicized; the IRS has become an appendage of Barack Obama’s party. Furthermore, congruent with exhortations from some congressional Democrats, it is intensifying its efforts to suffocate groups critical of progressives, by delaying what once was the swift, routine granting of tax-exempt status. So, the IRS, far from repenting

One of the most seismic changes in American politics over the last decade has been the emergence of a sharp generational split among the electorate. The Democratic Party owes its success in the last two presidential elections almost entirely to overwhelming support among the very young, which has overcome continued conservatism among older voters. The Pew Research Institute has dominated the field of exploring the ideological cleavages among different generations. And its latest survey shows again how the liberalism of the youngest voting cohort, millennials, remains firm, and likely to continue to recast the electorate. A few charts from the survey

Barack Obama´s parents were "married in name only," according to David Maraniss´s 2012 Barack Obama: The Story. But since definitions of an "in name only" marriage vary, such as "a marriage of convenience" or "a sexless marriage," and Maraniss failed to explain his claim, it is unclear what he was implying. Therefore, Obama´s oft-told nativity story must be searched for the full implications of Obama´s parents´ "in name only" marriage.
