Earlier this year, the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra (ASO) decided to disinvite two predominantly white high school choral groups from performance in the ASO´s holiday concert. The ASO´s decision was reportedly motivated by the high schools´ lack of diversity, which caused a stir among people who believe in racial justice as opposed to racial favoritism. Comments: White groups dis-invited to ´promote diversity´ by a group that is 99 % white.
AKA ´Do as I say, not as I do´, the hypocrisy is so thick here one needs a knife !

Good write up of what happened and the general coverup by the local LSM.
Not to generalize; but minority students are not found in first rate orchestras. Not sure why; maybe they don´t give away $300 sneakers if you play violin.
Plus the two schools talked about had been in majority white areas.
Merry Christmas from the South. The news today mentioned Atlanta is the fastest (or near) growing area in the USA.

There is no racism as sturdy and as robust as leftist racism. Lack of diversity? No. It is leftist racial profiling at work.

For true diversity they should program a Hip-Hop piece. That would offer a nice contrast to Beethoven.

As mentioned in the article, by ´diverse´ they mean black. Our local youth orchestra is loaded with Asian kids and their conductor is Korean but, of course, they don´t count.

Reminds me of a show I once choreographed for a professional company. When discussing the upcoming auditions, the company manager made a point of saying that the chorus of children needed for the show must be "diverse". (He´d been working on charity events in London, doncha know.) I asked him if being diverse took precedence over being talented, and if so, I wasn´t interested. He backed off and told me it was my decision. Well, we had a terrific show with 3 choruses of very talented children who just happened to be all different races. Sold out before we opened.

Live in ATL. It´s a he** hole. Would not advise anyone to move here, and I´ve been in the area since 1957.
My children went to the best schools in the state and are now adults. Thankful they are grown & have moved away from here. Now the county is a minority county, & not one of the schools they attended even shows up as being a top school.
Whites are the discriminated against race, now. You don´t believe it? Come here.
Attitude from most of the blacks here is as if they walked out of Rev. Wright´s church.
I´m telling and warning you...stay away. With my work, I fly out every Monday and back Fridays. Only way I can survive and and not stay totally angry, everyday. Even the airport is majority black-employed. Don´t set anything down. It will be stolen while you blink.

Music has no color or sex. Fine orchestras audition potential new members anonymously behind a screen for that reason. What comes out on the other side IS racially neutral and musically excellent. If it isn´t "diverse" in appearance then too damn bad, music doesn´t care. Note that it is bureaucrats, not artists making this appalling decision. Note also if you come to Atlanta, that the *audience*, for whom the whole effort exists, is composed of people who appreciate music, and that´s as colorful a mix as any Benetton ad could wish.

FTA: There is a very good reason for that racial disparity: interest in classical music is not proportionally distributed among racial groups.
=====================================
All sorts of interests and skills are likewise not proportionally distributed among racial groups (or by sex, for that matter). Yet our society has become so insane that many insist that this change. Of course, they blame discrimination when it doesn´t.
Ridiculous!

Everyone knows that diversity is a code word for affirmative action and minority quotas. The result, as everyone also knows, is not real diversity but phony diversity. This is fundamentally dishonest and generates resentments in everyone involved. It is insulting to its proposed beneficiaries, who are used as stage props and decoration to sustain the illusions of liberal fantasy ideology. Procrustean diversity engineering is the enemy of the individual and all genuine merit and accomplishment. It is often a manifestation of moral cowardice and the path of least resistance. The diversity industry has become a racket that is riddled by flim-flam artists and scoundrels of all sorts. It is a cancer upon civil society. It may be incurable - and it just might in the end prove fatal.

The ASO is in dire straits financially. This is not uncommon for municipal orchestras nationwide but I can´t help but think this controversy has hacked off some big donors.
Outrageous and silly political correctness is not exactly what the ASO should be engaging in especially during a recession.

They will never have diversity in the symphony orchestra. The diversity crowd lacks the training, intelligence and discipline to learn to read music and master an instrument. So put some no talent youngsters in the back to sing la,la,la, clap and sway to the music. Just make sure they are the right shade. There, diversity achieved. Anyone buying a ticket to this junk has too much money and not enough common sense.

President Barack Obama offered on Saturday to provide any assistance the Algerian government needs after a deadly hostage siege at a desert gas plant and said the United States was seeking a "fuller understanding" from Algerian authorities of what took place there. "The thoughts and prayers of the American people are with the families of all those who were killed and injured in the terrorist attack in Algeria," Obama said in his first comments on the hostage crisis. Conservative congressmen don´t question House Speaker John Boehner´s dedication to the cause. But as chaos overtakes GOP efforts to prevent a Jan. 1 tax hike, members do have doubts about his effectiveness. Here´s the latest turn of events: Over the summer, House Republicans passed a bill extending the Bush-era tax rates, which are set to expire, resulting in higher rates Jan. 1. That was Boehner´s Plan A. Senate Democrats said no, and so Boehner rolled out Plan B: extend current rates for all income below $1 million, and rein in Social Security spending.

Both Speaker John Boehner and media analysts have been spun into a state of confusion by the fiscal cliff issue and President Obama´s reelection. The fiscal cliff exists because the president and the GOP Congress could not decide in 2011 on a permanent general policy toward the budget. And now the president has added another factor: he is determined to usurp the Congressional authority to raise the debt ceiling. If the budget goes over the cliff, two things will happen: tax rates on everyone will rise, and across the board spending cuts will be made.

Abortion clinic employee Sherry West described an incident which "really freaked (her) out" and related to the jury how she heard a child who was born alive following an abortion scream.

The sequester may have many across the country singing the blues, but for President Obama, it was all about Memphis Soul. Even with the threat of furloughs and government cuts sparked by the sequester, Obama took the time to enjoy a star-studded concert at the White House tonight. The White House celebration of Memphis Soul music in the East Room--which included special guest appearances by Queen Latifah and Justin Timberlake--is likely to rile Obama´s Republican foes. Some conservatives have called on Obama to give up golf, especially since popular public tours of the White House have been canceled because of

In the message he issued along with his budget proposal on Wednesday morning, President Barack Obama said he wants to see 4-year-old children in the United States enrolled in public schools. Obama said America needs to start enrolling 4-year-olds to make sure the children are “better prepared for the demands of the global economy” and to help parents save on "child-care costs." After saying the United States needs to “equip our citizens with the skills and training” to fill jobs in manufacturing, energy and infrastructure, Obama said, “And that has to start at the earliest possible age.”

Although the first votes on gun -control legislation have yet to be cast, by some measures the National Rifle Association has already won. Obama’s ambitious plans to ban assault weapons and limit magazine capacities are off the table, while the NRA suggested it could support the most likely outcome -- expanded background checks -- as recently as 1999. The NRA claims that the president’s efforts have triggered a fundraising surge and boosted its membership from 4 million to nearly 5 million.

The state of California is reportedly considering legislation that would force group insurance policies to provide infertility treatment for gay and lesbian couples. Two men who have sex with each other for a year and do not produce a baby would be considered “infertile” under the proposed legislation. So would two women having sex. Since biology does not allow those without a uterus to conceive or those without a penis to impregnate, every year-long gay couple in California would potentially be covered by this new provision of California law.
