Little Lord Jesus no crying he makes and We three kings of Orient are — to say nothing of if thou knowst it telling: Have you ever observed just how peculiar the grammar and syntax of Christmas carols can be? Or maybe that should run The songs of Christmas, noticed thou, / the strangeness filled with are — and how? I loaded the CD player with various Christmas albums yesterday, just to play as background. The best one is the Irish Tenors´, the very worst by a landslide is George Strait´s. I like George Strait, but he should stay far away from Christmas carols.

This is a delightful article. Rare is the writer that can take a subject so familiar and remind us, once again , how important and necessary traditions are to us.

God bless the master of this house
And the mistress also
And the little children that your ´round table grow

The cattle in your stable
The dog by your front door
And all that dwell within your gates
We wish you ten times more

I love Christmas carols.

For our dear Ldotter´s, I encourage you all to go to YouTube and listen to Keith and Kristyn Getty´s "Joy - An Irish Christmas". The Gettys are modern hymn writers, and this Christmas album is just superb. Although the album includes a few traditional songs, with reels (you´ll love "What Child is This"), their own Christmas hymns are, in my opinion, destined to become classics. Just as important as the wonderful music, their lyrics are meant to teach. Please do yourself a favor and acquaint yourself with the Gettys. And Merry Christmas to all of you!

My favorite Christmas song these days is, "Mary, did you know?"

The part about when she kissed her bby boy, did she know she was kissing the face of god just sends shivers down my spine.

I like "Cradle Carol," sometimes called by the first line, "Hush my child, lie still and slumber," originally by Isaac Watts I think, more recently sung the great Doc Watson.

Very good in its 4-part shape-note iteration. Makes me glad to be Appalachian.

Every now and then a star goes under the knife and the work is so seamless, so subtle, that the public is none the wiser. This is not one of those times. Alexa Ray Joel, daughter of singer Billy Joel and model Christie Brinkley, is turning heads with her new look, which she showed off Tuesday night in NYC. Alexa, also a musician, performed at the Cafe Carlyle and looked smoking hot with what appears to be a brand-new face. Back in 2010, she admitted to a nose job, telling People that her honker "always bothered me a little bit.

Sharyl Attkisson hasn’t landed yet, but there’s every reason to suppose she’s not going to finish her career in local news in Duluth. For starters, Atkinson is an accomplished reporter. But she’s also taken one of the surefire moves to help ensure her relevance – not to mention potential TV and book contracts – by criticizing the very media establishment in which she spent her career. It’s an increasingly well-traveled path: Over the course of the past two decades, a handful of journalists have left mainstream media jobs while decrying what they saw as an inherent bias in their own industry.

For decades, rapid economic growth has been the norm for developed countries. An educated workforce, a large population boom, major technological advances, and abundant fossil fuels were the key components of growth, generating substantial and broadly distributed increases in standards of living in many countries. We have grown so used to such growth that we inevitably view it as a panacea for a host of economic ills, whether it´s a deep recession or income inequality. We now understand, however, that the postwar growth paradigm is not environmentally sustainable. We also know that the shared prosperity it once delivered is itself

A triumphant President Barack Obama declared his signature medical insurance overhaul a success, saying it has made America´s health care system ´a lot better.´ But buried in the 7.1 million enrollments he announced in a heavily staged Rose Garden appearance is a more unsettling reality. Numbers from a RAND Corporation study that has been kept under wraps suggest that barely 858,000 previously uninsured Americans – nowhere near 7.1 million – have paid for new policies and joined the ranks of the insured by Monday night. A RAND study pours buckets of cold water on the Obama administration’s claims that it has nearly reached 7 million sign-ups for Obamacare. The whole point of Obamacare, supposedly, was to insure the uninsured and bend the cost curve down. Those who had insurance were supposed to be able to keep it. Families were supposed to start saving about $2500 a year. If you believed the Obama administration. Reality, according to RAND‘s study, is that the Obama administration’s 7 million figure is deceptive. Supposing 7 million have actually signed up and paid their first premium — which is not a given,

The former two-term governor of Florida speaks fluent Spanish, is a convert to Catholicism, and has high name recognition. Jeb could raise millions of dollars over night by just saying “yes” to running. Despite all this, there are strong reasons Republicans should say no to him. 1. His last name is poison. Let’s face it, if Jeb Bush had the last name of Something Else he would have already run for president in 2008 or 2012.
