How Boehner´s ´Critical Moment´
Could Turn Out OK For Him

National Public Radio, by Dana Farrington

Original Article

"The House has done its part to avert this entire fiscal cliff," House Speaker John Boehner said Saturday in his weekly address. He cited the measure that passed Thursday, which would reorganize the automatic spending cuts to protect the defense budget and cut deeper elsewhere. He also pointed to legislation that would stop all tax hikes on Jan. 1. Boehner said the president "refuses to challenge the members of his party to deal honestly with entitlement reform and the big issues facing our nation." But he did not mention his proposed "Plan B,"

This is another useless article. The House has all the power. There is no need to negotiate with obama. Pass the bill that makes the tax cuts permanent, refuse to renew the SS tax cuts, cut spending, and tie the White House budget to this bill. Michelle will make sure it passes and is signed into law, just as soon as she realizes her vacations are over, without the signature.

Use the power the House already has.

The House has all the power! That is delusional. The House could pass legislation 24 hours a day and it would die in the Senate or be vetoed by the President. In point of fact, the House has already passed legislation that the Senate won´t even consider. No matter how you try, you can´t make this debacle the fault of the House. Obama voters will think it is, but that does not make it so.

I thought the original intent of our founders was that the potus did NOT have his hands on our purse strings and was thus constrained. With a gutless congress, our potus can now pass laws, make war and levy taxes with no assistance or opposition.

The thesis of this article is Boehner can win by going even more squishy to get democrat support. He looses more than he gains with that advice.
As others have pointed out the house has the purse strings. This is the very power needed to bring Obama to his knees. His power grows out of spending. Curb it. Obama has already signalled his fear of this in his speach when he said he will "not play that game any more" - referring to negotiating increases in the debt limit. He is obviously thinking of some sort of executive order to usurp for himself the power of the purse from the house. When that happens the house must fight him every inch of the way. It is in the constitution - so defend it. This is ballgame! If you don´t care about the constitution then save the country.

President Obama has told a Dutch newspaper that the United States does not see the ongoing crisis in Crimea and Ukraine as a "zero-sum game" between Washington and Moscow as pro-Russian forces reportedly overran a third Ukrainian military base in the Black Sea peninsula Monday. In the interview, published in Monday´s edition of de Volkskrant, Obama said, "The United States does not view Europe as a battleground between East and West, nor do we see the situation in Ukraine as a zero-sum game. That’s the kind of thinking that should have ended with the Cold War." The president went on to say,

Obamacare is adding billions in economic costs and millions of paperwork hours, according to a new report released on Monday. To mark the anniversary of Obamacare, which became law on March 23, 2010, the American Action Forum released a report finding that the law’s regulatory burdens are twice as great as its benefits. “After four years of implementation, countless delays, a website disaster, and constant litigation, the Affordable Care Act (ACA) celebrates its inauspicious birthday this week,” the report said. “From a regulatory perspective, the law has imposed more than $27.2 billion in total private sector costs, $8 billion in unfunded state

WASHINGTON - Alan Thacker wants health coverage, but he can´t get help in his home state of Georgia. Mary Moscarello Gutierrez no longer can afford insurance in New Jersey. Justin Thompson of Utah refuses to be forced into the president´s health law. Millions of people in the United States will remain uninsured despite this week´s final, frenzied push to sign them up under the health law. Their reasons are all over the map. Across the country, many of the uninsured just don´t know much about the health overhaul and its March 31 deadline for enrolling in plans that can yield big discounts,

After 4-year-old Kaelyn Kerr got stuck in an elevator in Reading, Massachusetts with her mother and baby brother on Wednesday, the only way out was up a ladder and over a wall. Needless to say, little Kaelyn panicked. My Fox Boston reports that the firefighters learned that little Kaelyn liked the Disney movie “Frozen,” and so Scott Myette began playing the movie’s theme song, “Let It Go” on his cell-phone. Myette and fellow firefighter John Keough sang along with the hit song to try calming Kaelyn down. “It worked,” Keough told My Fox Boston. “We got her to a point where she

When it comes to green gentry liberalism, think of an Americanized version of the PBS hit—where everyone knows his or her place, and our betters look best. Last week was a good week for natural gas, but a bad one for green gentry liberalism. John Podesta, a veteran of the Clinton White House who is once again a presidential adviser, tried to explain some energy facts of life to the true-believing liberal base. Still, it’s unclear if Podesta’s intended audience was listening, and that willful blindness may cost the Democrats control of the Senate. Podesta warned that opposition to natural

Sarah Palin has been laughing off the fact that she wasn’t included on the sanctions list issued by Russia in response to the U.S.’ sanctions list of prominent Russians. But analysts believe Vladimir Putin made a big mistake in snubbing her: you don’t want to raise the ire of Palin, who may be our biggest bulwark against an invasion of that former Russian colony, Alaska. Yes, shocking as it seems, Alaska was once owned by Russia. It was its colony from 1742 to 1867 until its purchase by the United States from cash-strapped Czar Alexander II. ONCE upon a time I had a cat named Lucky, and the name fit. She turned up on our doorstep as a stray and stayed with us for 10 years, until her rather gruesome demise. (More about that later.) I liked her because she was a free spirit, and a survivor, going out for two, three, even five days, in all seasons. She’d show up when it suited her, waiting in the dark before dawn till I came downstairs and turned on my desk lamp. Then she’d make her presence known by rising up on her hind legs and gently

In BOYERS, Pa. — The trucks full of paperwork come every day, turning off a country road north of Pittsburgh and descending through a gateway into the earth. Underground, they stop at a metal door decorated with an American flag. Behind the door, a room opens up as big as a supermarket, full of five-drawer file cabinets and people in business casual. About 230 feet below the surface, there is easy-listening music playing at somebody’s desk. This is one of the weirdest workplaces in the U.S. government — both for where it is and for what it does. Honolulu police officers have urged lawmakers to keep an exemption in state law that allows undercover officers to have sex with prostitutes during investigations, touching off a heated debate. Authorities say they need the legal protection to catch lawbreakers in the act. Critics, including human trafficking experts and other police, say it´s unnecessary and could further victimize sex workers, many of whom have been forced into the trade. Police haven´t said how often — or even if — they use the provision. And when they asked legislators to preserve it, they made assurances that internal policies and procedures are in place to

Most members of Congress would kill to be interviewed on one of the shows, since getting such an appearance instantly brands you as an important person whose opinions are worth listening to. But “Meet the Press,” the oldest and most venerated of the shows, has been struggling of late, falling behind “This Week” and “Face the Nation” in the ratings, leading to some rumors about David Gregory’s

If you lease a car, don´t think you can get out of payments just because you´re dead. Death, it turns out, is considered "early termination" of your contract, and that can mean thousands of dollars in penalty fees. Sally Shafton, 81, learned this recently after her husband, Bob, died of prostate cancer. She now faces charges totaling $2,352.72 from Toyota Financial Services. Her husband had leased a brand-new Prius from Manhattan Beach Toyota a year ago. He knew at the time that he was ill but, according to his wife, "the salesman assured him that death would qualify for interruption

WASHINGTON — Mitt Romney said Sunday that President Barack Obama is naive when it comes to Russia, has shown "faulty judgment" about Moscow´s intentions and could have done more to try to deter its annexation of Crimea. The 2012 Republican presidential nominee said Obama didn´t have the foresight to anticipate Russia´s moves and should have been working earlier with allies to make clear the penalties that Russia would face if it moved into Ukraine. Romney did acknowledge that such steps may not have been enough though to hold back Russia President Vladimir Putin. "Had we communicated those things, there´s always

A few weeks ago, I wrote about how the sweeping acceptance of gay marriage in recent years is owed in large part to Christianity. Rejecting the rigidly hierarchical and stratified societies of the ancient world, Jesus Christ taught the equal dignity of all persons, proclaimed that the meek shall inherit the earth, and declared that the last shall be first and the first shall be last. The Western world has been working out the logic of these subversive teachings ever since, with the institutional transformation of marriage being the latest, though surely not the last, example of its social, moral,
