On Sunday’s broadcast of NBC’s “Meet the Press,” moderator David Gregory took a very aggressive posture in his exclusive interview with NRA executive vice president and CEO Wayne LaPierre. After a series of LaPierre’s answers appeared to frustrate him, Gregory lashed out at LaPierre and held up a high-capacity ammunition clip, leading to a back-and-forth between Gregory and LaPierre. Partial transcript as follows: GREGORY: Because that’s your standard is that fewer people should be killed. That’s the goal here. And the standard is, if it’s possible, your words, if it’s possible that lives could be spared, shouldn’t we try that?
Comments: Although NBC is probably granted diplomatic immunity, Gregory went into full-fledged MSNBC mode today
It does not matter that David Gregory violated a DC law, because Gregory is a liberal mouthpiece, and the liberals who run Washington, DC are not going to arrest and prosecute Gregory.
Now if Wayne LaPierre had brought along an empty magazine of the same type and showed it for emphasis, as Gregory did, it would be another story, and LaPierre would have been lucky to get out of the building without being arrested. That´s how political all this is.
I get tired of blow-dried idiots talking about guns, a subject they know nothing about. Clips rather than magazines; bullets rather than cartridges. Automatic weapons rather than semi-automatic weapons.
Brings to mind the old saw about the similarities between opinions and anuses.
But it woulld be fun to call the DC PD and demandthat an arrest be made- since there is video evidence of a crime being committed. FOr those of you who think this is silly, it is to be pointed out tangible evidence that precisely refutes their logic. "Want laws to prevent people from having these things? That law alreadey exists. Enforce it!"
I bet the Marxist Gregory did not mention the story about the Chinese Communist controlled media calling for the immediate disarming of all Americans, a couple of days ago. All I can say is "Remember the Tiananmen Square Massacre." The Gregory´s of this world see themselves as the ruling elite, destroying the NRA and gun owning Patriots is just his duty to the Party. As soon as they get our guns they can take the NEXT leap Forward.
Dead Ted Kennedy´s bodyguard (one of several - I actually had to work with them when my stupid dean managed to invite Ted as a commencement speaker not long after Ted killed Mary Jo Kopeche) dropped his uzi while entering the capitol building in d.c., and nothing happened to him. James Webb carried a semiauto pistol into the capitol, blamed his assistant, nothing happened to them.
I happened to catch Lindsay Graham and Chuck Schumer on Gregory´s show this morning. When Graham said that he owned an AR-15, and didn´t want the government preventing him from buying another one, David Gregory actually started, sort of an involuntary recoil, and moved back slightly from his microphone. It was pretty funny!
If they ban high capacity magazines they will just be creating a black market for them, and create something else that the Mexican smugglers and any other criminal group can smuggle into the USA and make a buck.
The best thing to do is enhance the background checks and grant a waiver of the medical privacy laws relating to mental illness so that law enforcement conducting the checks can be told when an applicant to purchase a firearm has a mental illness and is considered dangerous to him or herself and others.
Gregory should be arrested and prosecuted. Yes, DC´s law is ridiculous and on its face, unconstitutional. However, far too many otherwise law-abiding citizens have been turned into felons at the stroke of a pen because of laws such as those in DC. If LaPierre were the one to wave that magazine around in DC on live television, I haven´t the slightest doubt DC police would be frog-marching him out of the studio and he´d be looking a a $1,00 fine and a year in jail.
Further, the fact that Gregory was waiving that magazine around demonstrates how felons - such as Gregory - do not obey the laws in the first place. Felons and evil-does have never and will never respect societal norms and laws. In fact, they see locations such as "Gun-Free" zones simply as places where lambs can be had for slaughter.
David Gregory better be arrested and prosecuted. This was not an oversight, he purposely sought a standard-capacity AR magazine and possessed one in the District of Columbia where doing so is illegal.
There is increased threat against civilians worldwide. It is organized insanity from the radical Islamists. And it is acts of individual insanity, often feeding off of the long drawn out news attention on school massacres (copycat massacres). There never used to be school massacres. The press has to take some responsibility, and they won´t. The answer is to arm civilians with weapons and ammo, and the gun training from the NRA, because the police will only show up after the fact. And the difference between a 30 round magazine and six 5 round magazine is only a few seconds.
Gregory is a total moron and his show "Meet the Depressed" is nothing more than an inbred cousin to MSNBC, which airs the most hateful liberal talking heads in the the universe...toxic lunatics! LaPierre is a brave soul for venturing into enemy territory...I have the utmost respect for him.
While Gregory was berating the NRA for suggesting that armed security people be placed on duty in schools, the Washington Post reported some time ago that Gregory has children who attend a high end private school in the D.C. area where the tuition is about $33000.00 a year per student. The school also has up to eleven security guards on duty at any one time!
On Sean Hannity’s Wednesday night television program, conservative commentator Michelle Malkin took up the Fox News host’s side in his weeks-long feud with MSNBC’s Al Sharpton. Malkin, the author of “Culture of Corruption,” expressed her disappointment in Hannity’s participation in Sharpton’s 2011 National Action Network convention. But she had Hannity’s back in the dispute, and reminded his viewers of Sharpton’s over-the-top remarks in the late 1980s involving Tawana Brawley and her false accusations of rape by six white men. “Al Sharpton has blood on his hands,” Malkin said. “He’s ruined lives. He’s been one of the worst purveyors
In a wide-ranging interview with Fox News’ Greta van Susteren on Tuesday night, conservative talker Rush Limbaugh said there is an alliance between President Obama’s White House and the mainstream news media “They agree with him,” Limbaugh said. “They’re him. They are — I think they’re all part of the elitist New York-Washington-Boston media academic corridor and they think they are Obama. They think same education, same school, same world view. But there’s also, I think — and I’ve been doing my radio show for 25 years. And it’s getting to the point now where things are starting
On Sunday’s “This Week with George Stephanopoulos” on ABC, Washington Post columnist George Will took on proponents of federal assistance for Detroit, which declared bankruptcy earlier this month. According to Will, the city isn’t undergoing a fiscal crisis, but is facing a much more serious cultural one, which is the source of its woes. “Can’t solve the problems because the problems are cultural,” Will said.
In an appearance on Laura Ingraham’s radio program on Tuesday, Hoover Institution senior fellow Shelby Steele elaborated on a Monday op-ed in the Wall Street Journal on Monday arguing that the so-called civil rights establishment is in decline, as seen when the verdict in the George Zimmerman trial failed to create a significant reaction.“I think probably, you know, the attempts to have big supportive rallies for Trayvon Martin and for the idea of him as a victim of white racism, has come to different cities around the country to put together these marchers and so forth
On Tuesday’s broadcast of Laura Ingraham’s radio show, economist and Intellectuals and Race author Thomas Sowell blasted Wisconsin Republican Rep. Paul Ryan argument for immigration reform. During a June appearance on Ingraham’s show, Ryan had said the U.S. might face labor shortages unless immigration policy is overhauled. “That’s incredible,” Sowell said. “I mean —first of all to an economist, it is incredible to speak about shortages without talking about prices , in this case wages…You know there, there have been so many predictions of shortages of so many occupations and the shortages don’t materialize. And why not?
On Tuesday’s broadcast of Fox News Channel’s “The O’Reilly Factor,” Washington Post columnist Charles Krauthammer called President Barack Obama’s 2010 health care reform law a “bait and switch” and said the administration’s recent move to delay the employer mandate is unconstitutional. Elaborating on a claim he made earlier in the week, Krauthammer explained that the postponement of certain provisions of the law — including the delay until 2015 of the requirements that employers provide coverage to employees and that beneficiaries show proof of income — creates more problems. “Look, the promise of this president was Obamacare won’t
HBO’s ‘Real Time’ host Bill Maher asked female Saudi Arabian filmmaker Haifaa al Mansour about the obstacles she encountered as a female filmmaker on Friday and spoke out against the nation’s governing religion of Islam. Maher noted that some nations in the Middle East are becoming more conservative in regards to Islam after the Arab Spring, which, in his view, isn’t necessarily a good thing. “The problem is, the Arab Spring kind of turned into the Arab Winter,” Maher said. “[A]nd Saudi Arabia, I mean, is the most conservative of all. As people criticize me for what
On Thursday “Special Report” on the Fox News Channel as news was breaking that the Syria had used chemical weapons on rebels within its borders, Washington Post columnist Charles Krauthammer said it was time for President Barack Obama to make a decision on what involvement the United States would have in the deteriorating situation there. Krauthammer argued that if the United States would decide one way or another, it would open the door for another world power to intervene if chose not be get involved. “I think what we need to happen is for Obama to make a decision.
Immediately following President Barack Obama’s remarks on Wednesday about the current scandal embroiling the Internal Revenue Service, Washington Post columnist Charles Krauthammer reacted by downplaying the gesture. “That was a holding operation,” Krauthammer said. “That was the absolute minimum he could have done. He relieves one person. He obviously had to. He had to relieve at least one person. And he chose, of course , the acting commissioner. But, I would have expected more. The other actions he announced are up to now meaningless. Obama and this administration have said a hundred times they’re going to
George Will joined the chorus talking about the prospect of impeachment for President Barack Obama after last week’s admission from the Internal Revenue Service that it had targeted groups with the phrases “tea party” or “patriot” in their tax-exempt applications for extra audits . On Sunday’s broadcast of ABC’s “This Week with George Stephanopoulos,” Will proposed a scenario wherein the Bush administration had targeted groups with the word “progressive” in their names and concluded the situation would be much different in terms of expressions of outrage. “Mr. Hicks, when he was in Libya, said his jaw dropped
Senior Fox News political analyst Brit Hume laid out why this week’s testimony on last September’s terrorist attack on the U.S. consulate in Libya could be problematic for former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. Hume, speaking on Tuesday’s broadcast of “America Live,” said there is no feasible way for her to escape any responsibility since she had to be involved in the crafting of the talking points that came out after the attack that resulted in the deaths of four Americans, including then-U.S. Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens. "There’s really no way for her to escape responsibility for this if this
Back in the 1980s, the country faced a familiar dilemma to the one it faces today — the border was insecure and too many illegal immigrants had moved into the United States. At the time, the proposed solution was a bill crafted by then Wyoming Republican Sen. Alan Simpson and Kentucky Democratic Rep. Romano Mazzoli. Signed into law by President Ronald Reagan in 1986, it instantly granted 3 million illegal immigrants legal status. Yet a little over 30 years later the problem has returned, with more than 11 million illegal immigrants now in the United States.
WASHINGTON — U.S. officials insisted Tuesday that extraordinary security measures for nearly two dozen diplomatic posts were to thwart an “immediate, specific threat,” a claim questioned by counterterrorism experts, who note that the alert covers an incongruous set of nations from the Middle East to an island off the southern coast of Africa. Analysts don’t dispute the Obama administration’s narrative that it’s gleaned intelligence on a plot involving al Qaida’s most active affiliate, the Yemen-based Arabian Peninsula branch. That would explain why most U.S. posts in the Persian Gulf are on lockdown, including the U.
The truth about Benghazi, the Associated Press/James Rosen monitoring, the IRS corruption, the NSA octopus, and Fast and Furious is still not exactly known. Almost a year after the attacks on our Benghazi facilities, we are only now learning details of CIA gun-running, military stand-down orders, aliases of those involved who are still hard to locate, massaged talking points, and the weird jailing of Nakoula Basseley Nakoula. We still do not quite know why Eric Holder’s Justice Department went after the Associated Press or Fox News’s James Rosen — given that members of the administration were themselves illegally leaking
Critics of the president are convinced that Barack Obama will do lasting damage to the U.S. I doubt it. Obama came to power in the third year of large Democratic congressional majorities. In his first referendum, he lost the House and he may soon lose the Senate; in other words, there followed a somewhat normal reaction against a majority party. Obama’s popularity rating is well below 50%, despite an obsequious media and a brilliantly negative billion-dollar campaign that long ago turned Mitt Romney into a veritable elevator-using, equestrian-marrying, canine-hating monster. In the second term, there is little
He thought he was a woman trapped in a man’s body — but it turns out he’s “just another boring straight guy.” ABC News editor Don Ennis strolled into the newsroom in May wearing a little black dress and an auburn wig and announced he was transgender and splitting from his wife. He wanted to be called Dawn. But now he says he suffered from a two-day bout of amnesia that has made him realize he wants to live his life again as Don. “I accused my wife of playing some kind of cruel joke, dressing
Former Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney jumped into the debate over the GOP’s future Tuesday night, warning congressional Republicans against forcing a government shutdown in their quest to stop President Barack Obama’s signature health care law. Romney addressed more than 200 donors on the shores of Lake Winnipesaukee at a fundraiser for the New Hampshire Republican Party, staged just four miles from the vacation home where he has spent much of the summer with his family. The event was closed to the media, but his office released his prepared remarks.
The U.S. State Department issued a global alert about the terrorist threat allegedly posed by Al-Qaeda in Yemen. The USA announced the closure of its missions in the Middle East and Africa, and their example was followed by France, Britain, and Germany. However, this was only an attempt to justify the activities of the National Security Agency.Last Saturday, right after alerting of the terror threat civilians and BOLO complex ("be on the lookout") that includes law enforcement and federal officials, President Barack Obama went to play golf, and then celebrated his birthday at the presidential retreat at Camp David.
WASHINGTON — Former Massachusetts lawmaker Barney Frank revealed that he doesn’t believe in God. During Friday’s appearance on HBO’s “Real Time With Bill Maher,” Frank, who championed the decriminalization of pot while serving in the House of Representatives, admitted to smoking marijuana and being an atheist. “You were in a fairly safe district. You were not one of those congress people who would have to worry about every little thing,” Maher said to Frank. “You could come on this show and sit next to a pot-smoking atheist and it wouldn’t bother you.”
In a rare diplomatic snub, President Obama is canceling plans to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow next month. The decision reflects both U.S. anger over Russia´s harboring of National Security Agency leaker Edward Snowden and growing frustration within the Obama administration over what it sees as Moscow´s stubbornness on other key issues, including missile defense and human rights. Obama will still attend the Group of 20 economic summit in St. Petersburg, Russia, but a top White House official said the president had no plans to hold one-on-one talks with Putin while there.
Washington--As hundreds of commuters emerged from Amtrak and commuter trains at Union Station on a recent morning, an armed squad of men and women dressed in bulletproof vests made their way through the crowds. The squad was not with the Washington police department or Amtrak’s police force, but was one of the Transportation Security Administration’s Visible Intermodal Prevention and Response squads — VIPR teams for short — assigned to perform random security sweeps to prevent terrorist attacks at transportation hubs across the United States.(Snip)With little fanfare, the agency best known for airport screenings has vastly expanded its reach
A poll released Friday by Public Policy Polling found that Alaska voters would pick former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton over the state´s former Republican governor, Sarah Palin, if the two women were to face off in the 2016 presidential election. Clinton led with 49 percent in the hypothetical match-up, with Palin at 40 percent, a nine-point gap. As of July 3, Republicans comprised 27 percent of the state´s registered voters and Democrats made up just 14 percent. The last time Alaskans opted for the Democrats´ presidential candidate was in 1964. Clinton trails five other hypothetical GOP candidates –
Over the last week, there has been a lot of buzz about a supposed CIA angle to the Benghazi story. Specifically, it has been alleged that a substantial number of CIA employees were on the ground in Benghazi, carrying out a mission that involved rounding up Libyan weapons and transferring them to rebels in Syria. Further, it has been reported that the CIA has leaned on its employees not to cooperate with Congressional investigations or the media, and it has been suggested that the CIA’s role in Benghazi may be related to the al Qaeda
Speaking from Egypt Tuesday night, where they are hoping to broker a peaceful transition period between the country’s ouster of former President Mohamed Morsi to its next phase of nascent democracy, Senators John McCain and Lindsey Graham warned that concessions on both sides needed to begin immediately or Egypt’s government would “fail.” “I didn’t know it was this bad,” Graham said. “These folks are just days, weeks away from all out bloodshed.” “There is only one way that we can bring about a peaceful Egypt, and that is a process of negotiation and reconciliation between major players,” McCain said.
