In popular wisdom, one-time presidential runner-up Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.) is likely to be nominated by President Barack Obama for Secretary of Defense or Secretary of State. But if Kerry does get the nod, a group credited with helping to thwart his presidential bid could re-organize to take him down once again. The Swift Boat Veterans for Truth, a group formed of military veterans who served alongside Kerry, worked to bring attention to the senator’s anti-war activities following his military service and to raise doubts about the truth of Kerry’s own accounts of his conduct during the war
Most of the media and the senate (Democrats and Republicans) actually think this gigolo toad was indeed a war hero.....or they´re too lazy, indoctrinated, stupid,or fearful to consider the truth. He´ll be confirmed with little opposition. What a disgrace.
It´s different this time, the Swift Boat Veterans should only fight battles that they can win. They won the last time when Kerry was the liberal Democrat candidate for President. But this time they will be trying to influence a very different animal, weak kneed wimpy Republican Senators, many just pleased as punch to go along to get along with their good friends across the aisle, who will vote for Kerry no matter what because Kerry is a member of their Senate club. The Swift Boat Veterans should not waste their ammunition.
The Senate - now there´s a body of old turnips who wouldn´t know one end of a gun barrel from another. How many of them have spent a lifetime or more keeping their seats warm and dissing the rest of the country? if ever there was a case for term limits - two and out. Twelve years is plenty long enough to feed at the country´s trough.
In the end, Kerry brought about his own loss in 2004. He campaigned with celebrities who spoke for him, while mostly standing silent, like he did with president zero at the appointment announcement. He also paid his band of brothers to travel with him, and that became artificial pretty quickly. In short, he ran a lousy campaign. But the Swiftboat guys made a contribution to his defeat.
This article is 10 days old. Not sure why it´s in the must reads today. That being said...
"... most conservative senators are more concerned with preventing U.S. Amb. Susan Rice from ascending to the top spot..."
What´s worse, lying to the nation about a video or lying to the nation about one´s fellow troops committing war crimes and negotiating with the enemy with no authority to do so? When do we get to call it TREASON?
Posters 8 & 9 forget that we Americans will be united behind the Swifties. They will not be fighting this battle alone. If the cowards of the Senate are faced with enough constituent opposition, they will cave and veto.
Hope the Swift Boat Veterans expose the fraud that is Gigolo John Kerry and the RINOs who vote for him. Treason is not a qualification for SOS. For those who calculate that Scott brown may get in - this is Mass. Watch for the idiots vote in another kennedynmor some such ilk. Expose him and Bork him- the Dem bench is Marxists, liars and frauds- the kakistocracy on display.
Unfortunately this country is past the point where enough people care. These days people only care when it affects them directly, and that will not happen, as Kerry will do his damage overseas in many places that most people cannot even find on a map.
I expect he will be confirmed because those RINOS etc . stick together in "The Club" that trumps all..I sent money to the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth once..and I will happily send money again ..I truly hope they do not sit this out..just call attention to this traitor and watch him squirm..even a little, is worth it..there are still legions of people out there who are low information voters..maybe a couple of them will..catch up..
When he was 27, my great-grandfather, Winston Churchill, made his maiden speech in the House of Commons. Unlike him, I am not a parliamentarian, still less a public figure. But today, on my 27th birthday, I will be among a group of former soldiers petitioning Downing Street for a cause to which I am convinced my great-grandpapa would have lent his most eloquent support. We are asking the Government to offer all Afghan interpreters who have served alongside British troops right of entry to this country--a chance for them not only to start safe new lives, but to preserve the
The Obama administration has issued a ruling that will permit some health insurers to ignore the Affordable Care Act´s limits on out-of-pocket health care costs until 2015, it was revealed today. While one senior administration official defended the move in comments to The New York Times, another told MailOnline that the unexpected policy shift will be ´a complete disaster´ for the president. Some health insurers will now be permitted to ignore the Affordable Care Act´s limits of $6,370 for an individual and $12,700 for a family next year. The owner of the upscale Swiss boutique where Oprah Winfrey claimed she was barred from buying a $38,000 by a ‘racist’ sales assistant today demanded to speak to the star she branded ´over-sensitive´ and insisted her employee did ‘everything right’. The rather fearsome-looking Trudi Goetz said she wanted to speak with the talk show billionairess ‘as soon as possible’ and also revealed her petrified member of staff will not be sacked or punished. She said: ‘I don´t know why she talked of racism. I am sorry, but perhaps she is being a little over-sensitive here. Maybe she was somewhat
Thousands of stargazers cast their eyes to the heavens last night to watch the Perseid meteor shower. Across the UK people turned into amateur astronomers as they looked out for the ´shooting stars´, a result of material falling from the tail of Comet Swift-Tuttle. While the Perseid meteor shower is an annual event between mid-July and mid-August, the best views this year were expected to be last night, with as many as 60 meteors an hour visible to the naked eye. Hundreds of people posted photos and comments about their stargazing experiences from across the Northern Hemisphere on Twitter.
Spain are continuing their clampdown on border checks in Gibraltar with motorists left waiting for up to five hours in sweltering temperates to enter the British island today. Travelers from Spain looking to enter the rock were left waiting in scorching conditions of 36C with many parking their cars and walking to avoid queues. The government of Gibraltar are exploring whether they have a legal case against Spain as the delays in such conditions could infringe people´s human rights. The news comes amid growing tensions between Spain and Britain over the border dispute which has led to the Royal Navy
Alfredo Moser is a modern-day Thomas Edison, whose invention is lighting up the world. In 2002, the Brazilian mechanic had his own light-bulb moment and came up with a way of illuminating his house during the day without electricity--using nothing more than plastic bottles filled with water and a tiny bit of bleach. In the last two years his idea has spread throughout the world. [Snip] So how does it work? Simple refraction of sunlight, explains Moser, as he fills an empty two-litre plastic bottle. "Add two capfuls of bleach to protect the water so it doesn´t turn green [with
It was one of the most daring British exploits of the Second World War, a unique operation, the heroism of which resonates to this day. On the night of March 24, 1944, 76 prisoners, most of them RAF officers, broke out from the Stalag Luft III camp in eastern Germany using a sophisticated network of tunnels and shafts that had been constructed over the previous months. This was the biggest single escape by British servicemen during the war, though it ended in tragedy. All but three of the men were recaptured and on the orders of Adolf Hitler, who was
Ice in Greenland is melting partly because of heat from the Earth´s mantle, according to a team of international researchers. The group claims that they are the first to find a connection between melting of the Greenland ice sheet and the high heat flow from the Earth’s mantle. [Snip] The Greenland ice sheet is often considered an important contributor to future global sea-level rise over the next century or longer. In total, it contains an amount of ice that would lead to a rise of global sea level by more than seven metres, if completely melted. The ice loss
Anthony Weiner has revealed that his wife still has a clear role in Hillary Clinton´s political career but he kept close-lipped about the nature of her job for fear of causing her any further damage. The disgraced former Congressman admitted that his multiple sexting scandals have ´hurt´ his wife Huma Abedin on more than one level, as she has taken a decidedly less-public role in his campaign to become New York City´s next mayor since his latest virtual relationship came to light. ´I feel that what I’ve done has hurt her, yeah. It’s hurt her professionally, it’s hurt her personally
Israel intercepted and destroyed a rocket fired from Egyptian territory at the Red Sea town of Eilat overnight, Israeli public radio said on Tuesday. A group of jihadist fighters said earlier they had fired a Grad rocket on Eilat in retaliation for an alleged Israeli air raid. An army spokeswoman confirmed the attempted rocket attack and its interception by an Iron Dome battery near Eilat to AFP, but did not say where the rocket originated. The Mujahideen Shura Council, an armed al-Qaeda-linked group, said in a statement published on a jihadist forum its fighters fired the rocket at 1:00am
Experts say they believe many of the cases involving acid are linked to Asian communities, with women attacked by their husbands and punished for refusing forced marriages, while men were attacked during disputes over dowries. Latest NHS hospital figures record 144 assaults in 2011/12 involving corrosive substances, which can also include petrol, bleach and kerosene. [Snip] He said: “There is a reluctance among women in the Asian community to come forward; these attacks do not usually come from strangers, but from someone close to them in the community--a husband, a father, or their family.” The figures show that while the
You might think it odd to put the question. Abraham Lincoln is one of that tiny number of statesmen who, in the public mind, have ascended above the political plane. [Snip] (I realise I’m rather behind the curve here--like a lot of people with children, I now get to see movies only on longhaul flights). Daniel Day-Lewis perfectly captures the ponderous frontiersman’s manner to which Lincoln’s contemporaries attest. Watching his portrayal, I was reminded of the way Karl Marx described his contemporary: ‘One of the few men to become great without ceasing to be good’ (possibly the
The sales assistant who refused to show U.S. talkshow billionaire Oprah Winfrey a luxury handbag costing nearly £25,000 claims the superstar lied about what happened in the luxury Swiss boutique where she works. Speaking anonymously to Sunday newspaper SonntagsBlick, the Italian bag lady said she felt ´powerless´ and in the grip of a ´cyclone´ after Winfrey went on TV in America to claim she had been the victim of racism. Winfrey was in Switzerland in July when she walked into the Trois Pommes boutique in Zurich looking for a handbag to match the outfit she was going to
In a story that has remained largely under the mainstream media radar, Congress announced late last month that it would finally investigate the Aug. 6, 2011 helicopter crash in Afghanistan that resulted in 38 deaths, including 22 members of SEAL Team 6, made famous three months earlier when they killed Osama Bin Laden. Grieving family members insist that soldiers in the elite unit were placed in unnecessary danger by the recklessness of the Obama administration, whose actions they characterized as criminal. “We’re going to dive into this,” said Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-UT),
LOS ANGELES -- Oprah Winfrey says she's "sorry" a media frenzy emerged after saying she experienced racism during a trip to Switzerland."I think that incident in Switzerland was just an incident in Switzerland. I'm really sorry that it got blown up. I purposefully did not mention the name of the store. I'm sorry that I said it was Switzerland," Winfrey said "I was just referencing it as an example of being in a place where people don't expect that you would be able to be there," she continued. In recent interview with "Entertainment Tonight," Winfrey recalled a clerk at an upscale Zurich boutique refusing to show her a handbag. Winfrey said she was told she could not afford the $38,000 purse. Staff has added more text.
On August 12, Joe DiGenova, attorney for one of the Benghazi whistleblowers, told Washington D.C.´s WMAL that one of the reasons people have remained tight-lipped about Benghazi is because 400 U.S. missiles were "diverted to Libya" and ended up being stolen and falling into "the hands of some very ugly people." DiGenova represents Benghazi whistleblower Mark Thompson. He told WMAL that he "does not know whether [the missiles] were at the annex, but it is clear the annex was somehow involved in the distribution of those missiles."
Last week I wrote a column about the reality that House Republicans are ready to cave on so-called comprehensive immigration reform. There was a final paragraph in that column my editor decided not to use. That is the editor’s right for two reasons: one, every site has a voice they wish to adhere to interns of form and content; and two, he who pays, gets the final say. Ironically, what was omitted by my editor was not lost on scores of astute letter writers who commented on the piece. I would like them to know that I have the same feelings
IRS? A system of voluntary tax compliance cannot survive a dishonest IRS. Lois Lerner and company have virtually ruined the agency. For the foreseeable future, each time an American receives a tax query, he will wonder to what degree his politics ensures enhanced or reduced scrutiny — or whether his name as a donor, activist, or partisan has put him on a watch list. Worse still, when a high commissioner of the IRS takes the 5th Amendment, it sends a frightening message: those audited go to jail when they refuse to testify; those who audit them who do the same
In the wake of a rodeo clown’s anti-Obama skit this weekend, the Missouri State Fair is forcing all clowns to undergo sensitivity training. The state fair commission voted Monday to ratify the decision to ban the clown in question who wore an Obama mask as the rodeo announcer asked if the crowd wanted to see him get run down by a bull. The crowd enthusiastically approved, according to local media reports. But the state commission went further, saying it will require that before the Rodeo Cowboy Association can take part in any future state fair, “they must provide evidence to
Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said Monday that she will soon tour the nation and deliver a series of speeches to promote more trust in government. She made her remarks at an annual American Bar Association meeting in San Francisco. More specifically, Mrs. Clinton said she was launching a series of speeches on foreign policy. And as part of those addresses, she planned to speak about the need to restore faith in government, Breitbart reported. She also bashed voter identification laws, telling 1,000 members of the
On Monday, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton told the American Bar Association annual meeting in San Francisco that she would be launching a series of speeches about American foreign policy in the “next few months.” According to Philip Rucker, White House correspondent for The Washington Post, Hillary planned to emphasize restoring faith in government – an ironic theme, considering that she was a member of the current administration presiding over the rapid decline in faith in government. The speech today was clearly a launching point for a 2016 campaign. She put heavy emphasis on bashing voter
The father of one of three Florida teens charged in a vicious school bus attack said his son is “sorry” for taking part in the July beating that made national headlines. As the trio headed to court on Tuesday, Julian McKnight said his son Julian, 15, has also suffered in the aftermath of the July 9 attack on a Pinellas County school bus after it left Lealman Intermediate School in the St. Petersburg-area community of Gulfport. “All I can say is that he had his consequences already, you know?” McKnight said. “This is life. I am sorry what happened
The U.S. Air Force said that a well-known drag queen group was invited to perform on base during a “Diversity Day” celebration because drag is a “symbol of gay pride and unity. But the performance sparked outrage among some airmen who called the drag show “totally offensive and inappropriate.” Jewels and the Brunchettes performed to a small crowd at the Los Angeles Air Force Base on Aug. 8, the military confirmed. The Air Force said in a statement to Fox News that “Diversity Day” featured eight cultural groups and was meant to “foster equality and diversity in the workplace.”
On Sunday, Trayvon Martin’s father was named an honorary captain of the Florida A&M football team. Tracy Martin delivered a speech to the team on Sunday, after which coach Earl Holmes said, “I told him I’d love him to talk to the team. He came out and he was very, very encouraging…[He] got a standing ovation from our guys. He talked about just persevering and told the guys to keep on pushing through the hard times. The message he shared with the kids was very positive and they were very responsive.” Martin will do the pregame coin toss for FAMU
