New York - Federal agents raided an eastern Connecticut gun shop on Thursday, the same gun shop that sold one of the weapons used by the Newtown elementary school shooter. Agents with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, assisted by police, moved in on Riverview Sales at 4 Prospect Hill Road in East Windsor at around 5:15 p.m., reported Len Besthoff of CBS 2 sister station WFSB in Hartford. Adam Lanza shot and killed 20 children and six adults with a Bushmaster .223-caliber rifle in Newtown last Friday, the second-worst mass shooting in United States history.

I believe this was grandstanding on the part of the feds, just like the arrest for a parole violation of that egyptian living in california, who distributed the video about mohammed.
Nothing more.
BATF could have checked inventory and paperwork without putting on this show. They audit gun dealers regularly, without the big show.

Two crimes were attempted at the store, one apparently successful and they get raided? Is it somehow a crime to be a victim of a crime. Sounds like something you´d find in an islamic country.

Reply 5 - Posted by: CEP, 12/22/2012 3:43:50 PM     (No. 9079740)

"All indications are Thursday’s raid was not directly related to the Newtown massacre investigation, but, as Besthoff reported, it was related to several other crimes committed at the store, including the recent theft of an AR-15 and the attempted theft of a .50-caliber long gun, both by a man with mental illness, Besthoff reported."

Why would they raid the store, sounds like the store did nothing wrong, in fact sounds like the store was the victim of theft, yet they were raided?

Guys, is this real? Is this really happening? Nancy Lanza legally bought her gun there and they RAID the man´s store as if he´s Al Capone or something?

There are over 1000 comments on this article. I read just a few of the first page and they are rabidly against Obama, some talking impeachment. Wow. On a CBS New York article?

Not sure, but being CBS is a sensation grubbing rag, I wonder if maybe the owner didn´t call in the police because some mentally ill nut was trying to steal a 50 cal rifle. It sounds like the same guy had just previously stolen an AR-15 so the owner must have recognized him and called the police. If there was a robbery in progress, of course they´d go through the inventory.

If the BATF is doing an investigation, this isn´t their MO. CBS seeing a remote relationship to the Newtown shooting might be creating a better story on what was a robbery in process.

These "journalists" are terrible at reporting and this is a case in point. Just enough misleading information given to leave you no solid facts and the few you get are skewed.

President Barack Obama offered on Saturday to provide any assistance the Algerian government needs after a deadly hostage siege at a desert gas plant and said the United States was seeking a "fuller understanding" from Algerian authorities of what took place there. "The thoughts and prayers of the American people are with the families of all those who were killed and injured in the terrorist attack in Algeria," Obama said in his first comments on the hostage crisis.

Boehner´s tactics

Conservative congressmen don´t question House Speaker John Boehner´s dedication to the cause. But as chaos overtakes GOP efforts to prevent a Jan. 1 tax hike, members do have doubts about his effectiveness. Here´s the latest turn of events: Over the summer, House Republicans passed a bill extending the Bush-era tax rates, which are set to expire, resulting in higher rates Jan. 1. That was Boehner´s Plan A. Senate Democrats said no, and so Boehner rolled out Plan B: extend current rates for all income below $1 million, and rein in Social Security spending.

GOP Strategy and the Fiscal Cliff

Both Speaker John Boehner and media analysts have been spun into a state of confusion by the fiscal cliff issue and President Obama´s reelection. The fiscal cliff exists because the president and the GOP Congress could not decide in 2011 on a permanent general policy toward the budget. And now the president has added another factor: he is determined to usurp the Congressional authority to raise the debt ceiling. If the budget goes over the cliff, two things will happen: tax rates on everyone will rise, and across the board spending cuts will be made.

Earlier this year, the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra (ASO) decided to disinvite two predominantly white high school choral groups from performance in the ASO´s holiday concert. The ASO´s decision was reportedly motivated by the high schools´ lack of diversity, which caused a stir among people who believe in racial justice as opposed to racial favoritism.

Recent research indicates that the number of people who do not consider themselves a part of an organized religion is steadily on the rise. Interestingly enough, though the number of those religiously unaffiliated is increasing, there is little to no trend in the number of those who express atheist or agnostic beliefs. People aren’t saying they don’t believe in God. They’re saying they don’t believe in religion. They are not rejecting Christ. They are rejecting the church. This begs the question, “Why are we losing our religion?”

Beginning a week of high pressure on gun control, the White House on Monday accused some Republican senators of cowardice for planning to filibuster gun legislation without allowing the full Senate to vote on President Obama’s initiatives. “If they oppose this legislation, have the courage to say so on the floor and vote no,” said White House press secretary Jay Carney. “Don’t block it. Don’t hide behind a procedural action to prevent a vote. That’s the wrong thing to do, and that’s how the president clearly feels.”
