I liked the Dragnet TV series, but the characters were entirely one dimensional and impossible to believe. Joe Friday had almost no real life. It was all cop all the time. No fun, no humor, nothing but cop. An occasional date that led nowhere.
I liked some of the later series better. Adam-12 was significantly more realistic but still oversimplified. Baretta and Starsky & Hutch were more interesting, if darker.
I do hope they retired his badge number (714) as a tribute though.

This is the city. Love that show. Have a DVD set of the old episodes. "It was Friday, March 15th. We were working the day watch out of bunko division...."

They things are going these days, Jack Webb would be ruined in the media as some sort of judgemental wacko.

The wackos and spineless jellyfish are now the caretakers of the world since the media has now picked the last two presidential winners, and anyone who takes a stand for the traditional tried and true way is laughed and ridiculed at by those conducting what Rush calls the "media anal exam".

Its a pitiful shame that we have sold our birthright for a heaping helping of fake Obama pottage as media pop culture has replaced truth, honesty and character.

Joe Friday, Andy Sipowicz and the like have helped make America a much safer place. Maxwell Smart, not so much.

Dragnet was a comedy. In our college frat house we turned it on the laughs never stopped.

Excellent series. Always enjoyed his ability to destroy hippies and other malcontents and their "drugged out, pie in the sky" dreams with a simple return to facts.

Unfortunately, look who won in the long run.

He was certainly representative of our veterans returning from WWII and Korea. No mood for childish or ridiculously looking and sounding college juveniles.
We miss you, Jack Webb.

I loved that show growing up.

After being chewed out by a hippie chick in one episode of the ´79 version, Webb says, ´´You´ve made one thing clear, lady.´´

´´What´s that?´´

´´Your mother had a loud bark.´´

Loved the no nonsense approach and the music. No funky organs. Would like to get it as a ringtone for my cell phone.

We watched this show every week! Dragnet remains one of the best & most popular TV series of all time. Everyone still recognizes the theme music. and who can forget Joe Friday saying, ´´Just the facts, maam?´´
