Didn´t watch, haven´t read the plan, but the headline is troubling.

The libs are having a field day on social media -- very critical of the NRA (dangerous, uncaring, helping the rich, unrealistic, etc.) and LaPierre (crazy, murderer, delusional)

I´m so tired.

The only thing proven to stop these crazies with guns is concealed carry people who will SHOOT BACK at the crazies! Get it? Quit whining and sober up!

The police in my town protect other public buildings, like the courthouse. Are lawyers more important than teachers and children?

I heard the very sensible NRA speech.

If arming guards in the schools spooks people then how about arming all adults in the schools with MACE or tasers. A giant can of pepper spray on the counter of each school office, alarms wired to the police departments and pepper spray in each classroom would be a start.

Why should Barri and Mooch have more protection than the children of this country? We should stop the waste of our money by them by keeping them in DC year round thus freeing money to protect future taxpayers.

Get over the hippie fantasy and protect our children at least as well as you protect our money.

Guns exist and the bad guys have them.

The headline is a deliberate lie.
Every private citizen can be an armed security guard. That is the point W. LaP. was making. He never used the words "police" or "officer" in this context.
So how did this deliberate, false, misleading lie get past editors?

I take back my previous comment. I see down in the speech he did use those words.

I thnk that all schools should be entered only via guarded gatehouses. No exceptions. The gatehouses should have "dead man" switches which would alert the school office in case the persons manning them are killed or injured.

Every school should have a safe room for every four classrooms to which children can be taken and secured in the event of emergency or doubt.There should be frequent drills.

Every word was exactly right. We cannot allow the msm to characterize the NRA as the problem rather than the solution.

I expected LaPierre to affirm our 2nd Amendment rights and perhaps talk about the thousands of lives saved each year by every day citizens who use their guns to stop crime. As usual, the speech was a huge letdown. He sounded like a typical boring republican, kind of like John Boehner. I don`t think he won any friends or influenced anyone.

Where I live, we have School Resource Officers at all the high schools.
Do they need to be at ALL schools? Probably not. So why NOT have one, two or even three trained administrators and/or teachers who can readily access a firearm?

He´s right. We need armed responders in the schools. How to accomplish that is the only debate. I think volunteers from the staff should be armed and trained. Others may feel it could be accomplished a different way.

One thing´s for sure, the end of the Gun Free Zone should be immediate.

I´m ok with school official access to weapons. An armed police officer will be on break, the rest room, talking on the cell, sleeping in the cafeteria when called for.

I think there was an armed responder at Columbine. It didn´t help much.

Boiled down, it comes to this: the Kumbaya crowd believes in peace, love and gun free zones. They have established these zones where our children go to school, and we have had massacres. Now they want to try the experiment nationally, because the school experiment was such a success.

Do they prevail, or do we?

#16, go do a search on the Mississippi school shooting which occurred shortly after Columbine. A teacher went to the parking lot and got his firearm from his car and stopped the massacre. It does work.

At least he has ideas instead of the same ole slop like raise taxes or we an assault weapons ban...please!

Be careful what you ask for. All this will mean is more union members to do Obama´s bidding just like they did in Michigan -- ditto teachers. Keep guns out of the hands of the unions.

I am STILL waiting for information about the weapon/s used to massacre the victims.
Were they "assault weapons, weapons of war" or the 2 pistols as first reported. Was the rifle in the car or was it used for the killings. The press runs around like chickens without heads reporting nonsense, but so far, I have not seen this information forthcoming.

Many schools already have community resource officers (with guns) in them. No longer a big deal. They have been there since drugs became a problem in schools.

There´s a Powerline article, "An Opinion on Gun Control", posted today on this site. I think it´s better than what Wayne said and, yes, it suggests that teachers who would be willing, in a pinch, to uselessly throw themselves in front of a gun barrel are probably also willing to get a concealed carry permit and pack heat at school.

Not all schools have to have an armed person... but if some of them do, bad guys will think twice.
