Mark Steyn: Tapper´s promotion
to CNN a lesson for the ´J-school
zombies´ in the WH press corps

Daily Caller, by Jeff Poor

Original Article

On Thursday in his weekly appearance on Hugh Hewitt’s radio show, National Review columnist Mark Steyn explained what was to be learned from Jake Tapper’s decision to leave ABC, where he had been the network’s White House correspondent, for an anchoring position at CNN. Steyn, author of “After America: Get Ready for Armageddon,” said that while the rest of the reporters in the briefing room at the White House have very uninspiring approaches to their questioning of the president, Tapper is the exception. “People think it’s odd that Jake Tapper, who is nobody’s idea of a right-wing nut

Comments:
That is true, there aren´t a lot of Jake Tapper wannabes reporting on Obama these days, at least ones that he will call on on a consistent basis.

I have always liked Jake Tapper. He is not a conservative, but seems to be interested in the "true" story. Can´t stand listening to any news conference because questionnaire seems controlled by desire to be like by his/her peers [lemmings].

He asks a good question and then he sits there nodding thoughtfully as if Obama´s answer is serious and true, as he did the other day about ´where were you´ during the previous massecres. So it seems like a setup to allow Obama to look ´presidential´, rather than a serious attempt to get answers. Never a follow-up, never a back and forth. Where´s Sam Donaldson?? Oh, he´s driving around drunk now and nobody wants to be like him with this president.

We have not seen one minute of Tapper on CNN so there is no sense speculating.

Who will he replace, Jack Cafferty?

He´s a lib with an occasional sensible comment.

Nothing to write home about.

I think this is a great move. Tapper is one of the few out there whom I consider to be a real journalist in the old style of journalism. Wouldn´t it be a kick in the head if Zucker moved CNN to the right, after creating the leftist monster(s) at NBC? Godspeed, Mr. Tapper!

Reply 6 - Posted by: Freeloader, 12/21/2012 11:50:55 AM     (No. 9077875)

Not excited by the "promotion" Mr. Steyn. Captain Outrageous´s network is no my idea of an instrument for "truth, justice and the American Way."

Tapper from ABC, a major ´get´ for CNN. Ed Henry from CNN to Fox a major coup for Fox.

With Jake no longer in the room to rankle Jay and O, who besides Henry will ask the tough questions? What a sorry pass that only these two are ever mentioned out of that whole gaggle of geese called the press corps(e).

Well....maybe. Jake was the best the LSM had. And now he stays in DC plus hosts his own show. And no doubt gets more money. Good for him. One little problem. CNN is a horrific network and compared to ABC no one watches it. And rightfully so. Fox beats MSNBC and CNN combined in the ratings.

Reply 9 - Posted by: submariner, 12/21/2012 12:08:05 PM     (No. 9077914)

#8 and both MSNBC and CNN are included in basic Cable packages, while Fox requires an upgraded subscription. Very telling.

Jake Tapper has indeed bucked the LSM trend by not automatically proceeding with the liberal pre-suppositions.

Reply 10 - Posted by: earlybird, 12/21/2012 12:13:36 PM     (No. 9077932)

Some here have criticized Tapper for not being sufficiently conservative.

Doesn´t that run counter to what we expect of real journalists: That they be neutral except for having principles? That they go for the truth no matter who they have to subject to intense grilling?

The news is supposed to be neutral. The truth. It is only in editorials that opinion is supposed to be put forth.

Reply 11 - Posted by: ASAvet, 12/21/2012 12:34:06 PM     (No. 9077992)

So, Tapper is goiing to CNN. Could be a career-ending decision. No one serious about news watches CNN (Communist News Network)>

Jake only ends up winning if he would have been picked up by FNC. Two could be dumped (Geraldo and Juan) and just hire Jake.

Lou Dobbs took this path to enlightenment.

Tapper has done well in that gonad free zone.

At some point a few J-school leftists are going to notice that the emperor is sooooo naked that they can´t keep up the charade any longer.

I´ll take a wait and see approach, don´t forget Jeff Zucker, the architect of NBC/MSNBC, was recently hired to oversee CNN. Honestly I´ll be very surprised if CNN moves towards the center.

Pretty pathetic reflections by Poor. For one thing, Tapper is certainly not ´a right wing nut´ -- he can´t even be considered Conservative in any meaningful way, except perhaps from a devout Marxist´s point of view.

Scarborough said such a filibuster would be an example of the GOP putting “rapists’ rights ahead over parents’ rights.” “[I] tell you what, Richard Haass, I saw John McCain there,” Scarborough said. “And I’m hopeful. On this weekend’s broadcast of “Inside Washington,” Washington Post columnist Charles Krauthammer said the two gay marriage cases currently before the Supreme Court could lead to an all-out assault on religion in the United States. “It gets really sticky,” Krauthammer said. “If the court were to decide that to deny same-sex marriage is unconstitutional, then you got Georgetown University – a Jesuit university [that offers] married student housing. It’s a Catholic University. So [when] it says it’s only going to allow heterosexuals, it will get sued. This will become an assault on religion.

In Alabama, no state legislator, Republican or Democrat, would ever question gun rights, given the state’s conservative leanings and rural setting. But Democratic Alabama State Rep. Joseph Mitchell of Mobile, Ala. has a curious take on why his constituents in his majority African-American district should appreciate their Second Amendment rights. In emails sent from Mitchell’s official state legislature account obtained by the blog Yellow Hammer Politics and published Wednesday morning, Mitchell had a heated exchange with a constituent identified as Eddie Maxwell and provided his own defense of the Second Amendment.
