Fiscal cliff: were the
Mayans right after all?

Telegraph [UK], by Tim Stanley

Original Article

America’s government chose not to govern yesterday, as Republican House Speaker John Boehner cancelled a tax vote in Congress because he calculated that he didn’t have the votes to pass it. The result: America now looks set to go over the fiscal cliff. The Mayans might have been wrong about the end of the world, but they might be on target about the end of John Boehner’s career. Aside from being very bad news for America’s economy, this is a disaster for Republicans. What went wrong? Earlier on in the day the House had narriwly passed

Comments:
We were doomed to lose this battle anyway, just as we´ve lost almost every other conflict with the Democrats. When are Republicans going to start playing the same subtle (and not so subtle) games as Democrats and win a few for the Gipper?

Just saw a clip on Fox & Friends of some RINO blaming the 40 or so "Tea Party" conservatives who refuse to raise taxes on anyone. Like that´s a bad thing. I despise these people, these RINO traitors. You DO NOT compromise with the spoiled destructive child who lives in our WH.

No matter what would have passed the House, the Senate has already adjourned and wouldn´t have come back to vote on the plan anyway.

And Our Dear Reader had no intention of signing it!

Boehner and the Rebublicans will be blamed for now. But in six months, when the little guy is really hurting and asking Obambi why he massively increased taxes after pledging not to, all Hades will break loose. But a strange thing will also happen…spending cuts. Major spending cuts. And Obambi will not be able to by pass Congress and magically spend that money. And suddenly the cuts start to really hurt the little guys. And perhaps the blotted federal goobernment will take a hit (which is good) and folks will see the world doesn´t end with decreased goobernment. The Kneepad Media´s job is to make this seem like it’s all Boehner´s fault but in ix months, the complexity and pain it causes will remind folks that its Obambi, not Congress that is the problem.

If you overextend your credit and create massive debt eventually there comes a day or reckoning. You may be able to prolong it but finally it will be show time. Better now than later.

"... But in six months, when the little guy is really hurting and asking Obambi why he massively increased taxes after pledging not to, all Hades will break loose..."

If only that were true. By that time, the dems and their running dogs in the media will have turned the truth upside down, just like they did with the CRA fiasco that is 100% responsible for trashing the economy. In 6 months, higher taxes and the continuing decline of the American economy will be a settled issue: ALL the fault of the Republicans and their refusal to accept gun control.

Goebbels would be so proud: his Big Lie theory proven once again....

A pill which slashes blood sugar levels and offers hope to millions of diabetes sufferers has been launched in the UK. The breakthrough treatment is being unveiled at the same time that the drug watchdog has recommended it for use on the NHS. Experts say the drug, canagliflozin, which is taken once a day, is a vital new weapon in the battle against the Type 2 diabetes epidemic and its devastating complications. It reduces blood sugar levels in people for whom diet and lifestyle measures or other blood sugar-lowering medicines do not work well enough, say the manufacturers Janssen.

The news that Piers Morgan’s eponymous prime-time CNN talk show Piers Morgan Tonight has been canned has not, it would be fair to say, been greeted with an outpouring of anguish. Russia has stepped up its rhetoric against Ukraine´s new Western-leaning leadership as tensions rise over the ousting of President Viktor Yanukovych. Russian PM Dmitry Medvedev said interim authorities in Kiev had conducted an "armed mutiny". And the Russian foreign ministry said dissenters in mainly Russian-speaking regions faced suppression. Earlier, Ukraine´s interim interior minister said an arrest warrant had been issued for Mr Yanukovych. MPs voted to remove Mr Yanukovych on Saturday. His whereabouts are unknown but he was reported to have been in the Crimean peninsula on Sunday. Russia, angered at the loss of its political ally, has already recalled

Revelations last year about mass U.S. surveillance in Germany, in particular of Merkel´s mobile phone, shocked Germans and sparked the most serious dispute between the transatlantic allies in a decade. Bild am Sonntag said its information stemmed from a high-ranking NSA employee in Germany and that those being spied on included Interior Minister Thomas de Maiziere, a close confidant of Merkel.

The crisis in Ukraine is a reminder of how volatile and dangerous the world can be. Scores of protesters have been shot and killed. Deals have been struck and ignored; the opposition has seized control of the capital Kiev, and secured the release from prison of Yulia Tymoshenko but the president yesterday denounced this as a coup and promised to remain in office. Whatever happens over the next few days, the country remains perilously torn between the Western half that looks towards Europe and the Easterners who look towards Mother Russia. Such troubles are certainly not limited to Ukraine.
