| WASHINGTON — Attorney General Eric Holder is heading to Newtown, Conn., to meet with first responders and law enforcement officials about last week´s school shooting. A Justice Department official says Holder is set to depart Washington after meeting with Vice President Joe Biden, who´s leading an administration effort to develop ways for reducing gun violence. The official requested anonymity because Holder´s visit to Newtown has not been publicly announced. The attorney general isn´t expected to participate in any public events during the visit.

Watch closely when the deceived green earth people of Newtown pass in their weapons. Are they being laid carefully into vehicles {so they can later be shipped out of country for a profit }, or tossed into heaps like they were somehow tools of the devil ? I suspect the former. Also why does Holder need to show up ? Does he think this will put distance between himself and the Fast and Furious mess ?

William Strickland waited for his grandfather to step out of his South Side home to take his paratransit ride to a kidney dialysis appointment early March 2, authorities said Saturday — then stood behind the 72-year-old man, shot him six times in the back and stole his wallet, leaving him to die just steps from his home. Prosecutors said Saturday that Strickland, 19, used the money he took from his grandfather, who also was named William Strickland, to pay for new gym shoes, a cellphone and tattoos. The teen had no criminal history but was an admitted gang member, they said.

The Second Amendment´s guarantee of a right to bear arms does not extend to the right to carry a concealed weapon in public, a federal appeals court in Denver has ruled. "We conclude that the carrying of concealed firearms is not protected by the Second Amendment . . ." Justice Carlos Lucero wrote on behalf of a three-judge panel of the 10th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. Lucero cited case law dating to the 1800s that put restrictions on walking around in public with a gun. A year ago, as the Baltimore Ravens under coach John Harbaugh and San Francisco 49ers under coach Jim Harbaugh advanced through the NFL playoffs, there was talk of a potential brother-vs-brother Super Bowl – a “Harbowl,” as some sportswriters had begun calling it. Roy Fox of Pendleton, Indiana, is an ordinary football fan who had an idea: make T-shirts and hats with the word “Harbowl” on them, and sell them for some extra cash in case these brothers did ever meet up in a future Super Bowl. Mr. Fox remembered how Lakers Coach Pat Riley famously made money by trademarking

A Richmond-area lawmaker brandished an AK-47 on the floor of the Virginia House of Delegates on Thursday in a wild stunt aimed at rallying support for tougher gun laws. Del. Joe Morrissey, D-Highland Springs, pulled the weapon out shortly after the day´s session got underway, a time when legislators typically welcome school groups and other visitors in the chamber´s gallery. (Snip) Del. Todd Gilbert, R-Woodstock, interrupted Morrissey´s speech to ask him to take his finger off the trigger lock and later said that taking guns from citizens is what led to the Holocaust and mass killings under the Soviet Gulag.

Washington - Less than half the number of inauguration visitors who came out in 2009 are anticipated when President Obama is sworn in for the second time Monday. But that won´t stop security from being just as tight - only this time, with some improvements. And even with the smaller crowd, if you want to get to the National Mall on Inauguration Day, you´re probably better off not driving. The hundreds of thousands of people spilling into the nation's capital Monday are encouraged to travel by rail, bus or bicycle. And no matter what they choose, those watching the inauguration activities

ALBANY, N.Y. — The National Rifle Association says the secret negotiations and lightning-fast passage of New York’s tough new gun control laws squelched the powerful gun lobby’s ability to mount opposition. Gov. Andrew Cuomo says he had to engineer quick enactment to prevent a counterproductive buying spree of now-outlawed guns. The legislation was introduced and signed into law in less than two days.

And so she lashed out, declaring that “anti-abortion activists

Only one of my six children has left New York for economic reasons but the strain of living in this expensive nanny state is weighing heavy on my other five and their families. As a native New Yorker, I´ve seen its middle class population decline over the years due to its neglect of blue collar families which is ironic since this is a Democrat city. With the recent arrests of several local politicians for corruption perhaps New Yorkers will pay more attention to those they put in office. Given their past indifference in local elections this is highly unlikely.

Remember little Anthony Freemont, played by cute little Billy Mumy, in one of the "Twilight Zone´s" most famous episodes? Just by using his mind, he took away the automobiles, the electricity, the machines -- because they displeased him -- and he moved an entire community back into the dark ages -- just by using his mind. . . . and the people there have to smile. LOS ANGELES — Jonathan Winters, the cherub-faced comedian whose breakneck improvisations and misfit characters inspired the likes of Robin Williams and Jim Carrey, has died. He was 87. The Ohio native died Thursday evening at his Montecito, Calif., home of natural causes, said Joe Petro III, a longtime family friend. Petro said Winters died of natural causes and was surrounded by family and friends. Winters was a pioneer of improvisational standup comedy, with an exceptional gift for mimicry, a grab bag of eccentric personalities and a bottomless reservoir of creative energy.

I’ve been writing about media coverage of abortion for many years. And so have many others. If you haven’t read David Shaw’s “Abortion Bias Seeps Into The News,” published in the Los Angeles Times back in 1990, you should. That report also explains why we cover the topic here at GetReligion. But the thing is that I’m getting kind of sick of pointing out egregious bias only to see things not just remain bad but get worse. Just think, in the last year, we saw the media drop any pretense of objectivity and bully the Susan G. Komen Foundation
