A gun enthusiast explains
his hobby

CBS News, by Ben Tracy

SAN FRANCISCO -Former Sen. Phil Gramm of Texas once said, "I own more shotguns than I need, but not as many as I want." A lot of gun owners feel that way, but we wondered why so many owned the same kind of assault rifle used in the Newtown massacre last week. Gene Hoffman says he owns four AR-15s for hobby and sport. The internet entrepreneur has 11 other guns in his home south of San Francisco. "If you ask a golfer why he needs 15 clubs instead of 7 he´ll tell you, well,

It´s not about the guns. It´s all about the control. And that´s what must always be foremost in our minds.

I own several hammers. I never bashed-in anyone´s skull.

I own quite a few knives of all descriptions. I´ve never cut anyone´´s jugular.

I´ve owned a number of cars, but never drove down the sidewalk to run anyone over.

Sheesh! What´s right with me?

And speaking of cars, if how an AR-15 is made [shape, color, materials] make it an "assault rifle," I guess the steel roof, fenders, and floor pan on my car make it an "armored vehicle."

The evil, and the crime, lie in the act, not in the object. That includes especially bodyguard-protected politicians denying law-abiding citizens the necessary tools to defend themselves and their families. There lies evil.

It´s not about the guns. It´s all about the control. It´s all about the control.

The person being interviewed caves a bit by saying he believes in "some" gun control for those that doctors deem as unstable.

Let´s keep in mind who will be paying the doctors in the future.

Also, let´s keep in mind that many veterans that are coming back from Iraq/Afghanistan are being coaxed by the VA and DoD to claim some mental disabilities so they can collect $$ and health benefits. Once they do so, the VA tells them they are now no longer to legally own a gun.

Can you see where this slippery slope is leading us...?

We are life-long gun owners and defenders of the Second Amendment. We are extremely careful and comfortable with firearms. We have, on three separate occasions, taken guns away from irresponsible, emotionally unstable family members... because that´s what responsible, serious grown-ups do. Adam Lanza had a brother and father who should have disarmed that household.

I read many articles mentioning that the AR-15 was in the car, and that the shooter had a Glock and a Sig Sauer that he used for the killings.
So which is it? How did he use the AR-15 to kill the victims and himself, and then put it in the car?
The reporters have been all over the map on reporting.
I want to KNOW what weapons actually killed the victims. IF that AR-15 WAS in the car, then he used 2 pistols, hardly assault weapons..so no further discussion of assault weapons is warranted.

One partial explanation for one individual. That´s some real deep research there, Scoop. /s

To ask the reasons for people owning firearms is to ask too large a question. I suspect that there are about five times as many reasons to own a firearm as there are firearm owners. In that respect, it´s like any other object - the owner has multiple reasons of varying importance to him or her, and no two owners have identical reasons.

The questions that are repeatedly asked and never answered are, "Why should law-abiding citizens be punished for crimes they did not commit? Why should gun control be even considered when it is such an abject failure everywhere it is in force?"

I think the answer is that none of this has anything to do with guns per se, and everything to do with the continuous and unremitting desire by the left wing to control everything and everybody.

I´m with you, #12. And I also want to know how many Aurora victims died from shotgun wounds, not from unaimed .223 bullets.

I´m far from an expert, but I know enough to know that most of the talking heads, especially O´Reilly, are totally ignorant or they would be asking the same questions.

Reply 15 - Posted by: NYbob, 12/20/2012 3:16:44 PM     (No. 9076496)

It´s NOT a hobby or about hunting. All the willfully ignorant sheeple are confident they know all about guns because they´ve viewed thousands of murders committed by firearms, as entertainment. Listening to their ideas about guns and society is like being lectured about taxes from a tax cheat or moral issues from Ted Kennedy. It is tiresome.

I do wonder what CBS News has against night shift store clerks, women in bad relationships, single women being stalked or anyone who is threatened by union mobs. Actually I know what the useful idiots want, and I certainly know what CBS wants.

anybody remember the news footage of the korean store owners (all ROK Army veterans) defending their stores against the mobs during the LA riots of 1992? As I recall they were all keeping and bearing so-called "assault" rifles to defend themselves and their property. And as I recall, the LAPD was just minutes away from the scene of the life-threatening action.

Projecting madly, the White House on Sunday pushed the notion that Republican intransigence is the reason that Democrats have been unable to pass a budget during President Obama’s tenure. “Right now,” said senior White House advisor Dan Pfeiffer on Fox News Sunday, “the approach of many Republicans, particularly the leadership in the House, is my way or the highway.” This is certainly rich coming from an administration that has failed to garner a single “yes” vote on its budget proposals for the past several years, even from members of its own party. Last Saturday, the president played golf at the same course with Nicholson, Brush, and friend and Chicago businessman Marty Nesbitt. Or who came home early to discover junior and a girl they’d never met frantically buttoning up. Or who found out — when their children were grown — what really went on when Meghan said she was sleeping over at Ashley’s. Such sobering tales of teens snookering mom and dad caused mixed emotions in me — a solidly pro-choice

A few years after the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, Lindalyn Adams was escorting visitors on a bus traveling down Elm Street near Dealey Plaza. “I was pointing out the John Neely Bryan cabin and the Old Red Courthouse, and suddenly I realized the whole bus was leaning towards the right as we were going close to the Texas School Book Depository, and the women [were] pointing and saying, “Is that? Is that? Is that?’” Adams recalled during an oral history interview. She knew, of course, what “that” meant. “That” was where Kennedy had been shot.
