State Department official suggests
Libya warnings went to the top

Fox News, by Staff

Washington –Republican Sen. Bob Corker got into a heated exchange Thursday over who is to blame for the deadly Sept. 11 assault in Libya, after a State Department witness and Democratic senator suggested that inadequate funding was partly responsible for insufficient security in the run-up to the attack. “This is not about the money,” Corker, R-Tenn., said at a Senate Foreign Relations Committee hearing, the first since a report was released finding "systemic failures" at the department before the attack. “I want to know why you did not ask for the resources in Benghazi. Typical democrat solution to any problem. Throw more money at it. Typical J, Fonda Kerry statement comparing the military budget to the State department budget. It is apples and oranges, there is no reasonable comparison of the missions. Maybe State could have used the money from last nights "Holiday Party" for increased security in Lybia.

My theory: Hillary Clinton´s Benghazi Flu is a way for her to get a ´dry run´, watching underlings get grilled in the hearings, so she´ll know in advance (and have as much time as she wants to rehearse her answers to) the exact questions she´ll be asked by Repub Senators when she finally does face the committee. It´s like a schoolkid having a copy of the exam before taking it, and being able to postpone the exam long enough to memorize the answers.

Thanks for the link, #1. I´m not with my Senator on everything, but his persistence on Benghazi in general and this exchange in particular are commendable. The look on Nides´ face was priceless as he struggled to respond.

I´m weary of the "lack of funding" arguments. State had enough spare change to run Hillary´s plane all over the globe, making her the "most traveled Secretary of State in history." The money spent to fuel her jet to Australia for a wine tasting vacation to keep her away from testifying in Congress was enough to have paid two more security personnel. If they had wanted to spend the money, they would have found it.

Trillions in debt and going higher and inadequate funding is the reason given for this failure and death of 4 Americans? There is no limit to the bs flying from DC. No one accountable? No one responsible? How in the world did we get reduced to this level?

Reply 7 - Posted by: The Architect, 12/20/2012 1:02:49 PM     (No. 9076295)

Never mind the "lack of funds" in the State Department. There were military units in the area a couple of hours away that were ready to relieve the compound but they were told to stand down. Who the hell gave that order??? There fighter planes within a few minutes of the area that were told not to engage. This is a load of crap. I believe this excuse about as much as I believe PIAPS is sick.

FTA...“We never did a top-to-bottom review, so we have no idea if the State Department is using its money wisely,”

A relative of mine works at State. He says that the waste and fraud there is mind boggling - secretaries sitting at their desks watching soap operas and refusing to do the very least of their jobs. And they can´t be fired due to their minority status. Or boondoggles like bringing entire theater troupes to DC from Africa to put on their version of "Hair", or sending US jazz combos to perform in Zimbabwe.

They had plenty of money. The issue is who gave the order to stand down, not the cost of a few extra security personnel.

Thank you, 9. The experiences of acquaintances of mine who have worked for government entities (far smaller and less rich than State) is that they are awash in money and have to find ways to spend it at the end of the year, so they don´t get their baseline cut back.

And I attended events (pre-9/11) in the Department of State´s Dining Room on the top floor of that building and you would not believe the opulence. Have seen some pretty nice places in my time, but that place was jaw-dropping: museum quality antique furniture, collections of silver (Paul Revere, et al.), famous paintings, and the food was all-stops-out. No shortage of funding there.

So now, instead of having "resigned",

Fallout from the report forced four State Department officials to either resign or be relieved of their duties.

"Relieved of their duties?" Is that a euphemism for "fired", or just moved to another desk to err again?

And now it is time for Hillary to man up and do her job. What´s left of it. Right now her legacy couldn´t be much worse.

During the televised Benghazi hearing with officials just below the Hildebeast in rank, they said funding had nothing to do with Benghazi. How could it when the State Dept could afford to send that military contingent protecting the site to some island for some public school athletics competition, not to mention buying useless Volt vehicles.

More than 3,300 crosses, Stars of David and Islamic symbols were installed on the National Mall Thursday as peace activists created a mock cemetery to honor victims of gun violence. Organizers said the number of markers was chosen to honor the victims of gun violence who have died since the mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn. At 11:30 a.m., religious leaders from across the country -- including some from Newtown -- began a 24-hour vigil among the grave markers, a protest aimed at lawmakers as they began to vote on a set of new gun restrictions.

Like a lot of high school sophomores, 15-year-old Ashley Baldwin found a job. Baldwin, however, wasn´t working retail or fast-food. She was doing ultrasounds, administering intravenous medicine and, ultimately, assisting in abortions performed by West Philadelphia doctor Kermit Gosnell. Baldwin, now 22, and the mother of a two-year-old, today told a Philadelphia jury hearing Gosnell´s murder trial of her unusual hands-on medical apprenticeship. She also told of seeing at least five aborted babies moving, breathing and, in one case, "screeching," after procedures at Gosnells´ Women´s Medical Society clinic at 3801 Lancaster Ave.

The House Republican campaign chief came under fire from senior members of his own party on Thursday after he split with party leaders in criticizing a Social Security change in President Obama’s budget that Republicans have long sought. Rep. Greg Walden (R-Ore.), chairman of the National Republican Congressional Committee, on Wednesday called a proposed cut to Social Security a “shocking assault on seniors,” hours after Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) and Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) had praised the president for offering the same policy change, known as chained CPI.

Massachusetts prosecutors are dropping charges against a disgraced former Newton elementary school teacher who had been accused of sexually assaulting three children, saying they’re content to let him serve out a 45-year federal child-porn sentence — and that the victims’ families didn’t want to force their children into painful trial testimony. David Ettlinger, 35, will not be prosecuted on charges he abused two children in Suffolk County and one in Middlesex County, Suffolk District Attorney Daniel F. The State Department has acknowledged that five U.S. personnel killed in Afghanistan, including 25-year-old diplomat Anne Smedinghoff, were on foot when they were attacked by a suicide bomber, and not in an armored vehicle, as officials had told bereaved relatives earlier this week. The violent deaths of U.S. diplomatic personnel — and the State Department’s changing account of how they died — harken back to the debacle in Benghazi, Libya, where Islamist extremists killed four Americans in assaults on the U.S. diplomatic compound on Sept. 11. “We are able to clarify at this point that they were

Terry McAuliffe, the Democratic front-runner in the Virginia gubernatorial race, once made an outlandish claim that would make Mitt Romney cringe. At a debate during his failed 2009 campaign, McAuliffe declared he “created over 100,000 jobs—good-paying jobs with benefits and good wages. That’s what I’ll do as governor.” A Democratic rival scoffed that McAuliffe apparently had created more jobs than Microsoft´s Bill Gates. McAuliffe’s campaign on Wednesday did not respond directly to questions about whether he stands by the 100,000 jobs—the same number Republican presidential nominee Romney struggled to defend in the 2012 campaign.
