Where’s Obama in the
Benghazi Report?

National Journal, by Michael Hirsch

And so the reckoning begins. Only hours after a special task force concluded on Wednesday that “systemic failures and leadership and management deficiencies” may have contributed to the deaths of Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans in Benghazi, Libya, the State Department’s security chief and two other officials resigned. What was lacking in the report, however, was any sense of who was responsible farther up the chain. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton’s Accountability Review Board—chaired by retired Ambassador Thomas R. Pickering and vice chaired by another national-security heavyweight, former Joint Chiefs Chairman Michael Mullen—detailed a broad failure

In August and September, Hillary was surely deep in planning sessions for her 2016 "It´s Time for Leadership" campaign, assuming Mitt would win. These intense sessions prevented her from getting involved with stuff like a proper security team and reinforced walls at our Benghazi consulate, al-Qaeda, and the chemical weapons in Syria. She is a leader, doing a man´s job better than a man, not someone who gets bogged down with minutiae.

Besides, she was starting to get pre-concussion fainting spells that caused upset stomachs and what her staff called the "vapors". She couldn´t possibly solve every problem when she had difficulty even remembering where Bill was spending the night.

The only question that needs to be answered in all of this is - who gave the orders to stand down? We all know the answer but it needs to be truthfully answered in public. There is only one person with the authority to give those orders and he´s about to embark on a long expensive vacation in Hawaii.

Having delved into some deep constitutional issues and philosophical debates the past couple of columns, let’s get into the political nitty-gritty this week, and specifically how this year’s midterm elections are shaping as a good year — a very good year — for Republican House and Senate candidates. I think in many ways the outlines of the 2014 campaign have already been set: All the polls show that the American people have lost their trust and confidence in President Obama and the Democrats (only in part because of Obamacare’s troubles), and unless the Republicans mess things up over the next

SPRINGFIELD — Illinois Democrats went all-in Thursday with their election-year class warfare theme as Speaker Michael Madigan pitched the idea of asking voters to raise taxes on millionaires, Senate President John Cullerton advanced a minimum-wage increase and Gov. Pat Quinn compared wealthy opponent Bruce Rauner to TV villain Mr. Burns. The moves continued a Democratic push to highlight income inequity that started Tuesday night before Rauner had even claimed his narrow victory in the Republican primary for governor. Rauner and Republican legislative leaders have countered by accusing Democrats of being tax happy and trying to drive a wedge between the

Black students are more likely to be suspended from U.S. public schools — even as tiny preschoolers. The racial disparities in American education, from access to high-level classes and experienced teachers to discipline, were highlighted in a report released Friday by the Education Department´s civil rights arm. The suspensions — and disparities — begin at the earliest grades. Black children represent about 18 percent of children in preschool programs in schools, but they make up almost half of the preschoolers who are suspended more than once, the report said. Six percent of the nation´s districts with preschools reported suspending at

Move over, “Animal House,” Hollywood’s got nothing on the federal government when it comes to buying booze. Federal spending records show the government spends seven-figures a year stocking its cabinets with wine, beer and liquor. In fiscal 2013, the last year for which there are complete records, the government spent almost $1.3 million on alcohol, more than quadruple the $315,000 spent in 2005. The spending on liquor has increased over the years toward the $1 million mark, with 2013’s tab growing more than $400,000 over 2012. “You could say that Washington’s quite literally drunk on other people’s money,” said Jonathan Bydlak,

None other than the truly sycophantic thinks for a second that President Obama cares a whit for anything that does not involve fundamentally altering the social composition of this country. Or golf.
