Rejecting Chuck Hagel
Washington Free Beacon, by Adam Kredo

Original Article

Posted By:StormCnter, 12/20/2012 4:54:56 AM

Former Republican Nebraska Sen. Chuck Hagel may no longer be President Obama’s favored pick to run the Defense Department, sources told the Free Beacon. Hagel immediately drew a frosty reception from observers who criticized him for advocating in favor of direct unconditional talks with Iran and for backing sizable cuts to the defense budget. Those who have worked with Hagel and have an intimate knowledge of his managerial style also expressed concerns about his possible appointment.

Poster #1 is right. Floating the Hagel balloon was a feint to reduce opposition to the nomination of Michele Flournoy for SecDef, who would be the first woman to occupy this position. Flournoy holds an A.B. in social studies from Harvard University and an M.Litt. in international relations from Oxford University. She resigned her position on the Quadrennial Defense Review (QDR) working group in February 2012 to contribute to Obama´s re-election bid.

Nice to know that his treatment of Israel is paramount to his proposed treatment of our military. A military he proposes to gut. Boy, have we got our priorities skewed.

Hagel´s a jerk--but then he would have lots of company in an Obama administration.

Imagine looking out your living room window late at night and seeing in your front yard a torch-carrying mob threatening you with violence. That´s what happened to oil pipeline company executive Mark Maki recently, according to journalist Lachlan Markay. Maki is president and director of Enbridge Energy Management LLC in Houston, Texas. The torch-carrying protestors on Maki´s front lawn were upset because his company filed criminal trespass charges against three of their comrades who chained themselves to Enbridge equipment. "Solidarity means attack" Maki opened his front door and walked out to talk to the protestors and the evening concluded without

It’s been a good month for Kentucky Senator Rand Paul. Last week, conservatives applauded as Paul tore into Bill Clinton as a sexual predator. Much of the nation was puzzled by the exchange because they couldn’t see how a rerun of the debate over the Monica Lewinsky scandal would help the GOP stop Hillary Clinton from being elected president in 2016. But many Republicans cheered because it showed that Paul had the guts to take on the Clintons and a mainstream media that continues to treat the former president as a revered figure in spite of his past. Paul added

CBS Evening News, NBC Nightly News and ABC World News broadcasts gave brief mention to the conviction of former New Orleans mayor Ray Nagin Wednesday on 20 federal counts, including bribery and conspiracy, but all three omitted the fact that he was a Democrat. CBS anchor Scott Pelley and ABC fill-in anchor George Stephanopoulos referred to him as the “former mayor” while NBC’s Brian Williams called him “controversial.” Nagin, who left office in 2010 after eight years, was indicted in January 2013 on charges he accepted hundreds of thousands of dollars in bribes from businessmen who wanted work from the city or

The nightmare societies portrayed in the George Orwell novels “1984 and Animal Farm gave us the word “Orwellian.” That adjective reflects a vast government’s efforts not just to deceive and control the people, but also to do so by reinventing the meaning of ordinary words while rewriting the past itself. America, of all places, is becoming Orwellian. The president repeatedly reminds the American people that under his leadership, the U.S. has produced a record level of new oil and natural gas. But didn’t Obama radically curtail leases for just such new energy production on federal lands? Have the edicts on the

Try as I might, I cannot rule out the possibility that the Democratic Party is some sort of elaborate performance art piece. One of those subversive ones where the real point is not the performance itself, but the reaction drawn from an unsuspecting audience. There was a cocktail party where the artist explained his vision, but we squares who are part of the patriarchal consumer culture weren’t invited. They are just seeing how far they can push this thing before we catch on. That must be it. There can be no other acceptable explanation for the straight-faced rationalizations many of us

The comic legend died Wednesday at age 91. Watch five of his funniest moments. A comedic legend and television pioneer, Sid Caesar passed away on Wednesday at the age of 91. In the 1950s, Caesar and Your Show of Shows, his television show with Imogene Coca, were household names. By modern day viewing standards, you need to have a little extra patience for some of the Your Show of Shows clips, which clock in around seven to 12 minutes each. But, they more than payoff as a chance to see classic, clever sketch comedy in its earliest days of television. Here’s

We cheered a week ago, when President Obama used the National Prayer Breakfast to call for release of two Americans. The first is Kenneth Bae, a prisoner of North Korea. The other is Saeed Abedini, a prisoner of Iran. Each has been sentenced to long prison terms for “crimes” that only a criminal regime would deem criminal: Bae for ministering to Christians and Abedini for work on behalf of house churches. Alas, the week since Obama’s call confirms a depressing fact about America’s diminished standing in the world these days. Pyongyang packed Bae off to one of its labor camps in the vast

Hillary Clinton has dominated the Democratic presidential discussion like few other candidates before her. Two years out from the Iowa caucuses, she already has a top-tier super PAC, a grassroots organizing machine, dozens of big donors ready to open their wallets, and massive support from Democratic voters. It´s unprecedented in modern politics, veteran Washington operatives agree. But her inevitability masks a potential weakness within the Democratic Party: the lack of a deep bench of future national leaders. For a coalition that prides itself on diversity, the list of presidential hopefuls is filled with white men: Vice President Joe Biden, Maryland Gov.

Yes, it’s one more marker of the bad faith and disrespect that pervade our politics, but its costs go beyond hurt feelings. Real Americans pay a price for this poisonous argument. The story in question is “the Republican war on science.” That particular phrase is the title of one 2007 book, but this story’s tentacles stretch far beyond a single volume. It´s no surprise that Barack Obama´s authoritarian streak is revealing itself at last. It was always there; clearly apparent in his rhetoric (e.g., his envy of Chinese president Xi Jin-ping´s powers), his abuse of executive orders, his threats against Congress, his sultan with fly-whisk attitudes toward his opposition, and even his vacations, which reek more of third-world trash gamboling on the Riviera than any American leader (George W. Bush settled his mind by clearing brush in Texas, Reagan at his ranch in Santa Barbara. Obama unfortunately finds the brush already cleared in Martha´s Vineyard and Hawaii.)

President Obama has repeatedly suspended parts of the Affordable Care Act without the consent of Congress. The latest unilateral action happened Monday night, when the administration announced another delay of the employer mandate, the law´s provision that businesses with more than 50 employees must provide their employees with insurance starting in 2014 or pay large fines. In July, the president decreed the mandate wouldn´t be enforced at all in 2014, and last night administration officials declared that businesses with 50 to 99 employees wouldn´t be penalized in 2015. Republicans have denounced such actions as "lawless." But if what the president has

Michelle Obama´s lust for luxury has always been a bit of a problem for her husband and Democrats in general. Jetting off to five star resorts with a large entourage has too much dissonance with the rhetoric denouncing inequality currently in favor with the left. But the First Lady has now outdone herself, and because a picture is worth a thousand words, the damage may be a bit more serious than the occasional grumble over designer shoes and livin´ large.
