´I heard three whacks´: Boy, 13,
describes the moment he heard father
´beat stepmother to death with a
baseball bat´

Daily Mail (UK), by Louise Boyle

Original Article

Posted By:zephyrgirl, 12/19/2012 1:29:15 PM

A teenage boy has described the sickening moment he heard his father beat his stepmother to death with a baseball bat. Lawson Dickey, 13, told a jury on Tuesday that his father woke him to say that his biological mother was an ´angel´ and she would take care of him. He then saw his father collect an aluminum bat from the garage, go to the bedroom and then came ´three whacks´. Lawrence Dickey, 46, is charged with first-degree premeditated murder and faces life in prison.

Comments:
When will BO convene a task force to deal with baseball bat violence?

There should be a urgent call for assault bat legislation. Sensible bat laws are needed now!

I do apologize for making light of this womans murder. My comments are merely an attempt at showing the idiocy of gun laws following tragedy.

Why would anyone need a wooden or aluminum baseball bat when banning them would save countless women and children who are killed with them? Also, there are alternatives to baseball bats. For instance, one can play videogame baseball. Also, for years there have been wooden and aluminum baseball bat alternatives, such as Wiffle Ball bats and Nerf bats. Yes, critics may say women and children have been struck and injured with Wiffle Ball and Nerf bats, but I have a question for them - how many people have been killed by such items?

Memo to House GOP

Election Day is almost nine months off. But right now Republicans seem almost certain to hold the House of Representatives and are likely to take the Senate. Which raises the inevitable question: How might the GOP seize defeat from the jaws of victory? Two occasions stand out, two obvious obstacles ahead that could lead to disastrous Republican stumbles, two pitfalls on the path to a happy GOP Election Day. Republicans are pretty good at falling into such pits. One is the increase in the debt limit, which Congress will have to deal with in the next month or two. The other

The left thinks everyone who opposes gay marriage is some bigot like Phil Robertson. That intolerance could come back to sting Democrats in November. Until very recently I had no idea who or what Duck Dynasty was. But now I, along with the rest of the English-speaking world, know far more about Duck Dynasty than I care to. But I am preparing myself for the reality that I will be hearing those two words endlessly over the course of the next year. Because unlike many media scandals that come and go after a 24 hour news cycle, I believe the Duck Dynasty controversy will have legs. Not only will the controversy linger, it might reignite the culture war that has traditionally hurt Democrats, especially

Amendment 66, education tax has failed

DENVER - Amendment 66, the K-12 education funding measure, has failed in Colorado. Even in Democratic strongholds of Boulder and Denver counties, the measure was failing or barely even. Amendment 66 constitutionally and statutorily would alter Colorado law to change how the state funds education. Firstly, it raises the state individual income tax rate from 4.63 percent to 5 percent on the first $75,000 of taxable income. That is equivalent to $472.5 if you earn exactly $75,000 in taxable income per year. If you earn more, any income beyond the $75,000 is taxed at a rate of 5.9 percent.

Thousands of Californians are discovering what Obamacare will cost them — and many don´t like what they see. These middle-class consumers are staring at hefty increases on their insurance bills as the overhaul remakes the healthcare market. Their rates are rising in large part to help offset the higher costs of covering sicker, poorer people who have been shut out of the system for years. Although recent criticism of the healthcare law has focused on website glitches and early enrollment snags, experts say sharp price increases for individual policies have the greatest potential to erode public support for President Obama´s

Kelly Ayotte is no stranger to the difficult balancing act of politics. In the 2010 New Hampshire Senate primary, the Republican state attorney general trumpeted an endorsement from Sarah Palin to help her fend off a tough GOP challenger, who had attempted to outflank her on the right. Then Ayotte tracked closely enough to the center to blow out her Democratic opponent, U.S. Rep. Paul Hodes, by 23 percentage points in the general election. (In the process, she won all 10 of the state’s counties.) Once she arrived in Washington, it wasn’t long before Ayotte began being mentioned as a

Immigration overhaul legislation has been dormant in the House for months, but a few Republicans are working behind the scenes to advance it at a time the Capitol is immersed in a partisan brawl over government spending and President Barack Obama´s health care law. The chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, Rep. Bob Goodlatte, has been discussing possible legal status for the estimated 11 million immigrants living in the U.S. illegally. He´s also been working with House Majority Leader Eric Cantor, a fellow Virginia Republican, on a bill offering citizenship to immigrants brought illegally

Todd Harris, the usually gregarious consultant to Sen. Marco Rubio, uncharacteristically resisted eight days of calls and emails seeking his thoughts for this column. When he finally did reply, the answer was: “to be honest, another story about Marco and immigration is not high on Christmas list!!” No wonder. The very issue Rubio (and Harris) thought would be a game-changing, legacy-builder looks like a big liability for the Florida senator, at least right now. In the process, the self-confident presidential hopeful suddenly looks wobbly, even a little weak, as he searches for what’s next.

It´s no surprise that Barack Obama´s authoritarian streak is revealing itself at last. It was always there; clearly apparent in his rhetoric (e.g., his envy of Chinese president Xi Jin-ping´s powers), his abuse of executive orders, his threats against Congress, his sultan with fly-whisk attitudes toward his opposition, and even his vacations, which reek more of third-world trash gamboling on the Riviera than any American leader (George W. Bush settled his mind by clearing brush in Texas, Reagan at his ranch in Santa Barbara. Obama unfortunately finds the brush already cleared in Martha´s Vineyard and Hawaii.)

Every year, prior to Valentine’s Day, the Vermont Teddy Bear Co. runs ads advising guys that the most romantic thing in the world – the best gift a love-struck guy can give his girl – is a teddy bear. The latest unilateral action happened Monday night, when the administration announced another delay of the employer mandate, the law´s provision that businesses with more than 50 employees must provide their employees with insurance starting in 2014 or pay large fines. In July, the president decreed the mandate wouldn´t be enforced at all in 2014, and last night administration officials declared that businesses with 50 to 99 employees wouldn´t be penalized in 2015.
