WASHINGTON — Defense Secretary Leon Panetta ordered a worldwide review Tuesday of hiring practices at all U.S. military day care centers after the Army revealed that it discovered problems with security background checks of workers at a Washington-area center. Shortly after the Army said it was launching an investigation of hiring practices at its 283 day care centers worldwide, Panetta´s press secretary, George Little, issued a statement saying Panetta supports the review. Little said Panetta has directed each of the military services to conduct similar reviews. The actions stem from the Sept. 26 arrests of two Army employees

I´m confused. I thought the military was composed of men who are ready to kill and destroy. What has that got to do with day care centers?

That is what I want to know also #4, why are taxpayers paying for this? I was an Army brat and I never heard of something like this, my Mom took care of us while my Dad was deployed etc. Why should taxpayers fund this in the military?

You people are killng me. Yes, the miiitary needs day care centers. With the current salaries, most families have 2 working parents, in most cases, both of them military. And the centers aren´t free, the fees are rank based, and in some cases, higher than it would cost "on the economy".

And #5, you must be a really old Army brat, when I came on active duty in 1977 there was child care on base.

We are AF and although I did stay home and take care of my own kids, I still used the day care occasionally. My dh was busy defending our country and I did need to go to a doctor or some other appointment without children occasionally.

Reply 11 - Posted by: MsMontana, 12/19/2012 2:34:59 PM     (No. 9074739)

Military wife here....yes, our local Air Force base has a daycare center and it´s more expensive there than it is in any other daycare in the city. There are also some home daycare businesses on base, but honest to God,I don´t know why they do it. The regs are so ridiculously stringent that I can´t see how a home daycare would pay.

The last poster is right. Why wouldn´t there be some kind of daycare on base?? Last I looked FAMILIES were enlisted along with their active duty member.

You people you are so negative about it, really have no idea what you are talking about.

Yes #9 i am an old army brat, you came on active duty as my husband three years before my husband retired from active duty. I remember people on bases helping each other and families being there to help other families. I also don´t think this is in the pervue of DOD. The taxpayers should not have to fund this, the country is in a fiscal mess"

Still, what´s the connection between men who´s only purpose is to slaughter, maim, and destroy everything they´re told to destroy have to do with wives, babies, and day-care centers. Oh, maybe that´s not what the army´s for any more. I didn´t think about that.

Security Cos that get Govt Contracts are often chosen as being ´minority owned´ and given points for First time Contracts.

Once their contract is over and they might actually know what they are doing, they are often ineligible to renew AND a new inexperienced ´minority´ owned company gets the contract.

Facing a surging homicide rate and several headline-grabbing murders, Chicago’s top cop is taking aim at lobbyists who he says prevent politicians from implementing more gun control measures. Appearing on a local Windy City Sunday morning talk show on the radio station WLSAM, Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy said special interests that lobby politicians to influence their opinion on gun control are the real problem. “If there was a special interest influencing police work, I believe that would be called corruption,” McCarthy said.

Clinton, in what may be her final set of testimony as secretary, pointedly challenged Republican Wisconsin Sen. Ron Johnson when he claimed the department could have "easily" determined what happened that night by interviewing staffers who were evacuated.

In the message he issued along with his budget proposal on Wednesday morning, President Barack Obama said he wants to see 4-year-old children in the United States enrolled in public schools. Obama said America needs to start enrolling 4-year-olds to make sure the children are “better prepared for the demands of the global economy” and to help parents save on "child-care costs." After saying the United States needs to “equip our citizens with the skills and training” to fill jobs in manufacturing, energy and infrastructure, Obama said, “And that has to start at the earliest possible age.”

The state of California is reportedly considering legislation that would force group insurance policies to provide infertility treatment for gay and lesbian couples. Two men who have sex with each other for a year and do not produce a baby would be considered “infertile” under the proposed legislation. So would two women having sex. Since biology does not allow those without a uterus to conceive or those without a penis to impregnate, every year-long gay couple in California would potentially be covered by this new provision of California law.
