| A federal D.C. district court ruled late Tuesday, just a few days after arguments, that not only can Wheaton College and Belmont Abbey stay in court, but what the Obama administration has said about fixing the religious-freedom problem they and other religiously affiliated non-profits have with the HHS abortion-drug, contraception, sterilization mandate must become real policy, and that the Department of Health and Human Services must report to the D.C. court every 60 days until they fix the problem. This is a huge step toward some restoration of religious liberty as we’ve known it.

While a win for those who believe in the First Amendment, the callousness of Obama makes one realize that he used the HHS mandate at part of his War on Women lie. The mandate, like Sandra Fluke, was enough to convince single women that Mitt Romney would use his personal billions to buy & destroy every birth control device sold in the US while Bain Capital would shut down the companies that make condoms, pills and abortifacients while turning Planned Parenthood into brokerage offices. The lie worked.
The best thing about this court win is that it should prevent another Obama lie, that "ObamaCare will not pay for abortions."

Recommend for must read. Sebelius proposed this Contraception Mandate without any documented legal advice. It seems certain to fail Constitutional review. If we go over the cliff and folks react to 452 billion in new taxes in 2013 alone, this may be fodder for impeachment.

The court should threaten to send faux Catholic Kathleen Sebelius to prison for contempt of court on the 61st day if they plan on non-compliance with the judicial order.

I’m not sure how widely it was known that Jonathan Winters, whom Robin Williams thought the best comic of his generation, was a conservative. In any case, I sometimes used to show students in my classes on the American Founding the early scene from “It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad World” where the whole gang tries to deliberate about how to divide the loot fairly when they finally got to the site where the loot was hidden, and how it could illustrate . . . the “great compromise” of the constitutional convention of 1787 in Philadelphia.

During an appearance on MSNBC´s Morning Joe, Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) said expanded background checks are "not enough," and private gun sales cannot continue because they allow terrorists to buy guns in the United States. "Can a terrorist currently buy a gun in this country? Yes. Can a felon? Yes. You go to a gun show and virtually no questions are asked," Feinstein claimed. Joe Scarborough chimed in later in the segment to echo Feinstein´s claim, asserting, "So now we have al Qaeda terrorists saying, ´Kill Americans, it´s easy, just go to gun shows, get an assault weapon.´"

In case you missed Dana Perino making her hip hop debut on The Five yesterday, the Fox News show decided to replay the moment again on today’s show. Perino was surprised not only by how much attention her performance got online, but also by the tone of that attention. As Perino revealed to her co-hosts, some on “the left” have been calling her “racist.” Perino didn’t point to any specific examples, except for one tweet from someone named Richard Robbins who put forward her rapped response to Jay-Z as an example of the GOP’s “laughable minority outreach.”

We’re glad that U.S. Sen. Chris Murphy and Gov. Dannel Malloy are talking in detail about the victims of Sandy Hook as part of a push for federal gun control legislation. Members of Congress need to know that Dylan Hockley “loved jumping on trampolines and watching movies” and that he “died in his teacher’s arms.” They should meet Benjamin Wheeler’s parents and know what they’ve lost. Pressure is growing on House leaders to create a special committee to probe the Sept. 11, 2012 terror attack and murders of U.S. officials at the Behghazi, Libya consulate, with 70 Republican members and over 700 former special operations officers demanding an investigation. "For the good of the country, we ought to find out what happened," said Virginia Rep. Frank Wolf, who is pushing legislation to create the special committee. Late Thursday evening, Congressmen Steve Cohen (D-TN) tried to send a flirtatious tweet to pop legend Cyndi Lauper, praising her “Night of Memphis Soul” performance at the White House and telling her how “hot” she looked. Only one of my six children has left New York for economic reasons but the strain of living in this expensive nanny state is weighing heavy on my other five and their families. As a native New Yorker, I´ve seen its middle class population decline over the years due to its neglect of blue collar families which is ironic since this is a Democrat city. With the recent arrests of several local politicians for corruption perhaps New Yorkers will pay more attention to those they put in office. Given their past indifference in local elections this is highly unlikely.

LOS ANGELES — Jonathan Winters, the cherub-faced comedian whose breakneck improvisations and misfit characters inspired the likes of Robin Williams and Jim Carrey, has died. He was 87. The Ohio native died Thursday evening at his Montecito, Calif., home of natural causes, said Joe Petro III, a longtime family friend. Petro said Winters died of natural causes and was surrounded by family and friends. Winters was a pioneer of improvisational standup comedy, with an exceptional gift for mimicry, a grab bag of eccentric personalities and a bottomless reservoir of creative energy.

I’ve been writing about media coverage of abortion for many years. And so have many others. If you haven’t read David Shaw’s “Abortion Bias Seeps Into The News,” published in the Los Angeles Times back in 1990, you should.
