What I still have yet to understand is how the woman allowed access to her firearms to this whack job.

#1, yes the gun lock was a mistake. But of course he could have killed her any number of other ways.

I blame the local government (city/county) and probably ACLU. The mother wanted the young man committed. Seems nobody lifted a finger.

Complete fabrication without a shred of hard evidence. This headline was designed to place fear in people. See, if one takes appropriate steps, step as the ACLU doesn´t endorse, and commits people to receive mental illness treatment, well, it just might trigger the next mass murderer. So we can´t PO the nut jobs off cause it might set them off. Nothing about the fact they have no evidence to support the headline.

The blame needs to go to his mother. She had the responsibility to have these locked up so that this nut would not get his hands on them. Even if he took a knife and killed his mother, he still could not do any harm outside his home. Or it would have been harder for him to get to the firearms.

Any one in their right mind would not leave a loaded pistol around a child. This young man would fall in this category.

#4, we don´t know any details of Mrs. Lonza´s gun safe. I assume it existed. Maybe she had the lock changed, and she thought it was OK, maybe the son got a key anyway. He figured it out.

But it doesn´t matter.

We are all supposed to go to the government for help. She did, filed the docs to have him committed. And seems all her guns were registered. Gov would also know that. 2+2=4. Government is in authority. Government did nothing. They are to blame.

For all we know, his mother may have had the guns locked up. However, he was intelligent; he likely knew where she stored them and where she stored the key. He killed her while she was asleep. She couldn´t watch him 24 hours per day/ 7 days per week.

There are parents across this country trying to keep their eyes on their teen or adult children 24/7. Many of these fall through the cracks; they get zero help from the government. It is so much easier (and produces better numbers for reports!) to treat the ´worried well´ - the people who have very mild, if any, psychiatric issues. Doctors do the same - far easier to deal with the easy patients who can be quickly treated and get better than deal with the complex, chronic cases. Those with serious mental illnesses generally get short shrift.

He allegedly tried to buy a gun himself, so maybe she did have them locked. He was obviously a clever fellow with time on his hands, so I´m guessing he figured out how to gain access.

While I´ve agreed in prior posts with #1´s position, this particular story is important for another reason. It raises the question: What are the "sources" of all this disparate information - the "fog of tragedy" if you will - and why aren´t these sources held accountable for propagating misinformation? First the mother was a teacher at the school, then she was only a substitute, then she had no connection whatsoever, now she volunteered there. Which is it? For what purpose? Time to hold some feet to the fire. A logical conclusion from the timeline was that this seemed to be a targeted attack, and that there is probably a link why he shot his mother and proceeded directly to that particular classroom. There appears to be some deliberate obfuscation here. More to learn as the information and misinformation comes out in drips and drabs. Yet the libs are already crafting legislation to "fix" this problem as we struggle to separate truth from speculation and outright lies in this case.

I wonder if the mom talked with Adam´s dad about how hard Adam was becoming to handle? I do feel sorry for the mother--feel like I know her.

What is the actual truth? No one may ever know. But, I´ve seen the pics of the home of the shooter and his Mother. His Dad is a VP of Finance at GE. It ´appear´s there were resources to get this kid into a private psychiatric facility. The parents should have been in communication and taking action about their son - together.

In GA, we have 1013s and 2013s. (1013 is mental health and 2013 is ETOH and drug). 2 people can go sign a legal statement, that a person is a danger to himself or others. As soon as this is signed, the local authorities go pick that person up, take them to a local mental health facility or hospital, and the person is held without the ability to sign out, for business 72 hours for evaluation.

I assume, that each state has similar laws on the books - emergencies happen.

People have a responsibility to take action when we observe and/or are aware of another´s dangerous actions. This Mother, knowing she lived with a very unstable son, had a responsibility to lock and store her guns - or remove them from the house.

Speculations as to the why on everyone´s part. But his fear of being committed makes very good sense to me.

Earlier this year, Connecticut considered passing an AOT (“assisted outpatient treatment”) law-which would allow for people with mental illness to be forcibly treated before they committed a dangerous crime. It failed, due to protests from “civil liberties” groups.
The ACLU won and children were murdered. The ACLU, rather than the NRA, should be held accountable.

These new theories are useless.

Seems that the so called investigation will go on and on and on until it´s no longer part of the news cycle.

I no longer trust a single word coming the news conferences.

When they get caught is outright fabrications they blame ´social media´.

This mother has been unfairly blamed because of the high emotion. It sound like she did what she could and she was also a victim. As for forced mental health treatment check out the link between psychotropic drugs and violent crimes. These drugs are addictive and coming off of them quickly can send someone over the edge!

That same report said there were no psychotropic prescriptions found in the house.

Acknowledge the young man´s issues, but I have no sympathy for a pampered self-centered coward, which is what he was.

Cowardice seems to be a hallmark of these types of gutless predators, who seek out the progressive´s gun free-zones and then kill themselves at the first sign of real resistance. Real resistance means someone with a gun.

A society truly interested in school safety would ensure that someone in every school is trained and armed to deal with these incidents.

It is simplistic to want only teachers armed. Many are diehard Dems and unsuitable. Any bonafide employee with a CCW and some focused training, be they support staff, management or educator could do this. It would be far better that the cowards not know who may be armed, only that the liklihood of an armed response is high.
