Rep. Tim Scott (R.), whom South Carolina Gov. Nikke Haley has said she will appoint to replace retiring Sen. Jim DeMint in the U.S. Senate, has been an opponent of Obamacare´s sterilization-contraception-abortifacient mandate, and a defender of traditional marriage, the right to life, and the Second Amendment. “The Constitution grants all law-abiding Americans the right to bear arms, regardless of what some would lead you to believe,”
Does he promote guns for 2 year olds? If not, then he should be okay with restrictions on those people who have no business handling guns - including those with serious mental illness with bouts of psychosis.
We heard two men on the elevator today chortling over the fact that the NRA took down its Facebook website. It is as if the NRA killed those little kids in the ´minds´ of liberals but the murder of thousands of babies every year by the scalpel means nothing to them. This is what we are dealing with.
Rep. Scott needs to get this right if he´s going to be among those idiots in the Senate. The Constitution does not "grant" the right to bear arms. That right existed long before the Constitution. The Bill of Rights affirms and enshrines pre-existing rights, among which is the right of free men to bear arms. I´m tired of everyone getting this wrong, including people who take an oath to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution.
The Constitution doesn´t even say that a person has to be law-abiding to own a weapon. The courts have been known to deny firearms rights for very minor infractions, or no infraction at all. For the liberal crowd, any excuse will do. Firearms should only be denied if a crime is committed using a firearm. Yeah, I know that´s after the barn door is open but the alternative is much worse. Self-protection is a God-given right. Any man who voluntarily gives up his weapon deserves what comes next.
#2, so you agree that the real root of the problem is the ACLU? After all they forced society to unleash these sick people. It was the barriers they set up that delayed committing the maniac who was burning himself. The mother was in over her head fighting the system, but she paid for her mistakes AND the system with her life.
Most of the people commenting about new gun laws have NO idea what is required to follow the many thousands of laws already out there. This monster violated many, many laws after he murdered his mother. Make new restrictions that criminals and maniacs will ignore, if it makes you feel better about making it harder for people in dangerous situations to get a gun for self defense. It sure would be nice if someone stepped up and pointed out that if you tell someone you have a gun free zone, you also have the means to enforce that with more than a sign or a lock.
#4, yahoo!, bravo!, *clap-clap-clap*, yesserie, and let´s hope Senator Scott knows the difference and will stand tall for our Constitution. There is always hope, unless McPain or Miss Lindsy twist his ear.
Cairo - Thousands of supporters of ousted President Mohamed Mursi took to the streets on Friday, urging a "Day of Rage" to denounce this week´s assault by security forces on Muslim Brotherhood protesters that killed hundreds. The army deployed dozens of armored vehicles on major roads in Cairo, and the Interior Ministry has said police will use live ammunition against anyone threatening state installations. Medical sources said four protesters died in clashes in the northeastern city of Ismailia, with one dead reported in the Mediterranean port of Damietta. Violence was also reported in Egypt´s second city Alexandria and in the Nile Delta city
Washington – The financially struggling U.S. Postal Service is revamping its priority mail program to raise revenue and drive new growth in its package delivery business. The agency is now offering free online tracking for priority mail shipments, free insurance and date-specific delivery so customers know whether a package will arrive in one, two or three days. Postal officials said Wednesday they expect the changes to generate more than $500 million in new annual revenue. The changes -- including redesigned boxes and envelopes -- are effective immediately. The improvements come as the Postal Service
A prominent computer security firm has warned that the Dalai Lama´s Chinese-language website has been compromised with malicious software that is infecting computers of visitors with software that could be used for spying on its visitors. Kaspersky Lab researcher Kurt Baumgartner told Reuters that he is advising web surfers to stay away from the Chinese-language site of the Central Tibetan Administration´s site until the organization fixes the bug. He said he believes the group behind the campaign was also behind previous breaches on the site that have gone unreported as well as attacks on websites belonging to groups that focus on human
Every president sags at the finish line, weary, exhausted and tired of hearing himself trying to sound presidential. Barack Obama has at last discovered something he’s good at: He’s ahead of his predecessors, sagging early, three years out. He’s boring everybody else, too. His presidential favorability ratings have fallen to 41 percent, which in the first year of a second term borders on dreadful. Ordinarily, a president in this situation can count on an occasional crisis, particularly one involving sending the Marines to an obscure foreign shore. If such an opportunity doesn’t fall on him, he may be tempted to invent
Astronomers at Nasa have discovered a pink alien planet orbiting a star like our sun 57 light-years away that they said is the smallest by mass photographed so far. Scientists believe the planet, GJ 504b, is thought to be a magenta colour, based on infrared data from the Subaru Telescope in Hawaii. While GJ 504b is the the lowest-mass planet ever detected around a star using direct imaging techniques, but it is still several times the mass of Jupiter and similar in size. Michael McElwain, a member of the discovery team at NASA´s Goddard Space Flight Centre
June, with balmy nights lighted by the lovers’ moon and crickets singing love songs from the hedges, is the dreamy time of summer. August, with white-hot afternoons and everything burnt and brown, is where dreams shrivel and go to die. President Obama, who thinks it’s the sound of his voice that tempers the rough edges of the cosmos, is suffering a harsh August moment. His dream of buying the world a Coke is blowing away. His old pal Vladimir Putin not only took in the leaker who did it all over the Obama dream, but even sent a get-well message
You just can’t please the apple-knockers, soreheads and doom-criers. Everyone who ever sat in a long line back in the 1970s, waiting for an hour or two to get a few gallons of gasoline, often entertained himself with a fantasy of big oil strikes to put the Saudi princes in their place, preferably on a planet in an obscure universe far, far away. Now, through the innovation of modern technology, we have that strike — not only oil, but something better, because it’s cheaper, cleaner and there’s lots of it. The Saudi princes are looking for a place to run.
Barack Obama is bored. You can see it in his demeanor and in his face, the way anticipation becomes melancholy. Most of all you can hear it in his voice when he steps up to make the speech that once sent audiences into frenzy. He’s mailing it in (with postage due). Being a messiah, a rock star, the Pied Piper of Hamelin, is of course hard work. Maybe we should cut the guy a break. You can’t be Mick Jagger or Kanye West every day.
It takes a fair bit of gall to accuse the media of lying about a sex scandal. It takes even more gall to then admit to the sex scandal, resign, claim you´ve redeemed yourself and decide to run again. And it takes the most gall to do all of those things, even as you´re engaged in a continuation of that sex scandal. But when your name is Anthony Weiner, gall is your middle name. Or perhaps Danger is. Weiner resigned from Congress in June 2011, but only after claiming that Andrew Breitbart had fabricated photos of his scantily clad body.
Atheism is in decline worldwide, with the number of atheists falling from 4.5% of the world’s population in 1970 to 2.0% in 2010 and projected to drop to 1.8% by 2020, according to a new report by the Center for the Study of Global Christianity at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary in South Hamilton, Mass. In its report, Christianity in its Global Context, 1970-2020: Society, Religion, and Mission, researchers analyzed data on church membership and activities from thousands of Christian denominations and other religions worldwide, presenting that data from 1970 and 2010 for a 40-year comparison and,
"The First Black President ... Spoke First as a Black American," ran the banner headline of Sunday´s Washington Post. But why, when the fires of anger over the Zimmerman verdict were dying down, did he go into that pressroom and stir them up? "A week of protests outside the White House, pressure building on him inside the White House, pushed him to that podium," said Tavis Smiley on "Meet the Press." Black leaders demanded Obama come out of hiding and stand in solidarity with the aggrieved and outraged. Belatedly and meekly, Obama complied. "Trayvon Martin could have been me 35 years ago," said Obama.
Dr. Cornel West on Monday said President Barack Obama “has very little moral authority” to speak about the Trayvon Martin case, because the president is “a global George Zimmerman” for trying to “rationalize the killing of innocent children” in Pakistan, Somalia, and Yemen. “I think we have to acknowledge that President Obama has very little moral authority at this point, because we know anybody who tries to rationalize the killing of innocent peoples, a criminal—George Zimmerman is a criminal—but President Obama is a global George Zimmerman,
The Washington Examiner is reporting that Obama "apparently" did not know about the extent of the violence in Egypt until National Security Adviser Susan Rice informed him of it on August 15. CNN´s Jack Tapper reported that the violence that has filled world news outlets for two days and has resulted in hundreds of deaths is just now reaching the president via the individual who infamously blamed Benghazi on a YouTube video. On August 15 Tapper wrote: This morning, the president had a phone call, a principals meeting with Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel, Secretary of State John Kerry, and
Former Obama "body man" Reggie Love spoke with interviewer Jim Newton during a lunch at UCLA´s Luskin School of Public Affairs on July 18, 2013. Highlights of this interview were briefly posted on YouTube Wednesday (August 13) before being removed because the audio embarrassingly noted that Love and Obama played 15 hands of spades during the bulk of the raid on the bin Laden compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan. Love also commented on the release of Obama´s long-form "birth certificate," as follows:
Oprah Winfrey and her co-star in Lee Daniels’ The Butler Forest Whitaker appeared on Anderson Cooper 360 Thursday night to promote their film. During the interview, Anderson Cooper asked Winfrey to relate the historical themes of the movie to the modern day struggles for African-Americans, including the Trayvon Martin case. Winfrey said she “loves” the film in light of the discussion on race, because it “brings context” to the conversation. She described how the film begins with a lynching scene and ends with walking into President Obama’s office, showing how much has “happened in the span of one man’s lifetime
An Illinois Republican congressman told constituents at a town hall meeting on Wednesday that then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton screamed at a fellow member of Congress two days after a U.S. diplomatic station in Benghazi, Libya was destroyed, merely for saying aloud that the attack was carried out by terrorist groups. [Snip] ´Two days after this attack,´ said Rep. Adam Kinzinger, ´we were in a briefing with Hillary Clinton and she screamed at a member of Congress who’d dare suggest that this was a terrorist attack.´ ´Now we find out that while it was happening, they knew it was a
The former CIA contractor, who is currently in Russia with temporary asylum, handed over an internal audit and other top-secret documents detailing the illegal behaviour. Most of the infractions involved unauthorised surveillance of Americans or foreign intelligence targets in the United States, both of which are restricted by law and executive order, The Washington Post said. They ranged from significant violations of law to typographical errors that resulted in unintended interception of US emails and telephone calls, it said. The Post said the documents it obtained were part of a trove of materials provided to the paper by Mr Snowden
Sandra Fluke, a former "reproductive justice" advocate at Georgetown Law School, has a new mission: getting more women to run for elective office. In a brief interview on MSNBC Friday morning, Fluke was asked if Republicans are remiss in not asking more women to run for office. "I think there are a variety of concerns about how we get women into office," she responded. "It´s not only about asking women, which is something we need to do -- but also about making sure that the party leadership and those in elected office are looking for women to succeed them." Fluke,
Americans continue to harken to the call of the bodacious, idyllic, post-war, big-finned, fabulous ‘50s. Given a choice of any decade in the century, the public would most want to live in the 1950s, this according to a new YouGov/Economist poll. The 1980s comes in second - with some interesting partisan divides between Republicans and Democrats over the decades. And the numbers: 18 percent of Americans would live in the 1950s if they could go back in time; 20 percent of Republicans and 14 percent of Democrats agree. 15 percent of Americans overall would chose to live in the 1960s;
Mideast: Christians in Egypt are again the target of Islamist Muslim Brotherhood supporters using the new violence as a cover for ongoing persecution. If Christians were burning mosques, the world would be outraged.Amid the raging violence in Egypt, a less-publicized war is being waged against Egypt´s long-persecuted Coptic Christians, this time using the excuse that they were somehow involved in the military´s ouster of the Muslim Brotherhood´s Mohammed Morsi from power. Coptic Christians comprise up to 10% of Egypt´s 84 million people.Ishaq Ibrahim from the Egyptian Initiative for Personal Rights
An Oklahoma federal judge struck down a state constitutional amendment that forbade its courts from considering Islamic law in judicial decisions. The constitutional amendment — approved by more than 70% of Oklahoma voters in 2010 — was part of a broader national push led by a handful of organizations that claim Islamic Sharia law is creeping into courtrooms. WSJ wrote about the anti-Sharia movement last year. Because the proposed amendment discriminated among religions, Oklahoma needed to show a compelling state interest to justify it, U.S. District Judge Vicki Miles-LaGrange in Oklahoma City wrote in her decision. The decision, made on Thursday, largely mirrors
Ten days after claiming the premeditated lynching of Emmett Till almost 60 years ago was the same thing as George Zimmerman shooting Trayvon Martin in what jurors determined was self-defense, Oprah Winfrey Thursday continued to inject racism into this issue. Appearing on CNN´s Anderson Cooper 360, Winfrey said, "It´s ridiculous to look at that case and not to think that race was involved" (video follows with transcript and commentary): ANDERSON COOPER, HOST: I spoke at length to Forest Whitaker and Oprah Winfrey about the film and about race in America, particularly after the Trayvon Martin case. Here´s part of that interview. (BEGIN
A year and a half ago, a news story exploded out of Sanford, Fla. George Zimmerman, an armed, 28-year-old man of mixed white and Hispanic ancestry, followed and killed Trayvon Martin, an unarmed 17-year-old African American. The tragic episode was touched off because Zimmerman, out on neighborhood watch patrol, found Martin to be suspicious as he walked home from a store wearing a sweat shirt with a hood. As the days and months unfolded and more details emerged, the national media ran with the story, and along the way something became quite apparent to me. As captivating as this story was,
President Obama and other top administration officials rubbed shoulders with stars of screen and stage during an exclusive Martha´s Vineyard cocktail party hosted by Comcast CEO Brian Roberts earlier this week, according to a report from the New York Post. In addition to the president and first lady, top Obama fundraiser and Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein was in attendance, as was "Curb Your Enthusiasm" star Larry David and singer Carly Simon. (Snip)Other notables included Marchesa co-founder Georgina Chapman, civil rights activist Vernon Jordan, entertainment executive Peter Chernin, and California Attorney General Kamala Harris.
