As Newtown burials begin,
Washington feels the heat
to act firmly on gun
control... and the Daily News
calls on America to join
our petition to ban ALL assault weapons

The powerful gun lobby’s iron grip on Washington showed signs of loosening Monday in the wake of the massacre of 20 children in Connecticut, but President Obama faces a long, difficult and contentious struggle if he wants to see any meaningful changes in the nation’s gun laws. In a stirring speech on Sunday in the community devastated by the school slaughter, the President assured the nation he would deploy the full power of his office to make it harder for madmen to kill innocent people with firearms.

The NRA has been in hiding ever since Friday morning. Every day that the NRA does not come out strong and retake some control of the dialogue, is a day that the gun grabbers control it. Hiding is not the answer! Look who is dominating all media channels as a result.

Mr. Veritas calls on America to push for banning error-ridden, lying, agenda-driven "newspapers."

First Amendment be damned!

#3: IMHO, banning cars won´t work. Just as a lunatic like Lanza could use other weapons/devices to kill, he could also use a truck, bicycle, or stolen bus to get to his victims. I say it´s asphalt. Asphalt is the real problem. Without good paved roads, these killers would have only a handful of potential victims within walking distance. Remember, the entire Interstate Highway System is a key part of national defense infrastructure -- a weapon! There´s no need for such paving to be accessible to pleasure-drivers. Paving clearly should be for police and military use only.

Big difference in assault weapon and an assault rifle.

Assault weapon is nearly all guns, including handguns.

So, Democrats are advocating violation of the 2nd amendment.

Just imagine though, that they take away the guns, but then a small band of determined people obtain guns, cross the border, and start taking over parts of the country.
And now consider they are Christians and devoute religious people (dems getting a little nervous now?).
Could be anybody, or group.

Progressives always confiscate guns then rule with iron fist at the expense of the "little people".

Oh, you say we have laws that will protect us?
Sure, ask the people living in South and West Chicago areas how those laws are working and the police are protecting them.

How about gun crime deterrent laws like use a gun in a crime and get 50 years in prison minimum mandatory? Hmmmmmmm? We have lots of gun control laws already and they do nothing to prevent crazy people from using guns in acts such as this. Guns don´t kill people, people kill people.

Reply 20 - Posted by: Calvinesq, 12/18/2012 1:01:59 PM     (No. 9072862)

I suppose what they are calling for is a ban on something that "looks sinister," i.e., like a military assualt rifle that can fire multiple rounds with one pull of the trigger (already illegal), but really only fires one round at a time. Thus, because something looks sinister to some, but has the same functionality as a hunting rifle, it should be banned?

Let´s argue the facts. Calling for a ban on something that is "already illegal" or that "looks sinister" is really just playing to teh emotional mob and is disingenuous.

While we join these people in their grief we need to remember that more innocent children are murdered every hour by abortion than all the children that were murdered by gunfire in the last ten years. If you are going to ban something, ban abortion. Abortion is the greatest threat to innocent children than all the guns in the country.

Reply 22 - Posted by: Italiano, 12/18/2012 1:08:23 PM     (No. 9072875)

Could it be that the gradual societal acceptance of infanticide over the years is more culpable than the "gun culture," whatever that is? Roll those little six year-olds´ lives back six plus years, and liberals would have been OK with their deaths. Obama himself is in favor of killing the kids who survive abortions.

Naturally, liberals will wet themselves over the above assertion, which is of course the point.

I´m sure the gangs and the Mafia will be more than happy to turn in all of their ´´assault weapons´´ immeidately.

So will all the independent criminals.

And as soon as they finish collecting every last one of those in this country, then they can start on the legal, law abiding gun owners.

That should buy us a little time, as in forever...

Reply 25 - Posted by: bighambone, 12/18/2012 1:28:02 PM     (No. 9072912)

Remember when the liberal Democrats and their anti-gun allies used to call for banning all "assault rifles", well they are not calling for that anymore.

Their new agenda is to call for all "assault weapons" to be banned that could possibly hold any sort of clip or magazine that holds more them 10 rounds of ammunition. If that were to happen, just about every modern semi-automatic handgun and rifle now sold in this country would be banned, and the law abiding population of this country would be disarmed, because of the homicidal criminal actions of several crazy people.

Elections have consequences, and this proposed action to ban all modern firearms in the USA by the liberal Democrats is one of the first consequences of the election.

No doubt millions of narrow minded conservatives stayed home because they would not vote for a Mormon. Obviously they left the barn door open for the liberal Democrats and their allies in the anti-gun groups who are now getting ready to drive right through that open door.

Where is congress when the fog near Fresno, CA causes 100 car pile ups and kills a number of people? Those damn cars should be banned; especially the models whose occupants were murdered. These cars are a danger to mankind. I am sure we can find the California Senators leading the mob to ban those cars. Maybe even require every car to mount 10 headlights on them. And maybe limit the gas tanks to 5 gallons each. This will solve the problem. Amen

The CT shooting proves the point conservatives should be making:

First you take away the guns (NoGunSchoolZone). Leave the law abiding without protection. In walks evil. Slaughter of the innocents.

In the greater sense:

Take away guns from the populance. Leave the law abiding without protection. In walks evil: the government, the criminals, the terrorists. Slaughter of their opponents, the weak, the good.

That is the plan, why are we so stupid as to buy into this crap?

"Looking sinister", #20, could be part of its appeal to sick ones. Call me whatever, but I don´t think I have a problem with banning assault weapons. Yes, maybe the mobsters would manage to keep some of theirs, but what´s being contemplated here based on the Mafia rationale - assault weapons wars between the mobsters & their targets who are also armed with assault weapons? We´re going to have to start compromising on some of these issues that get us the sort of reputation that is losing elections. If we don´t soften a little we´ll never win another election. Just my opinion. Moral: Don´t tangle with anyone who might have an illegal assault weapon. Then you don´t have to worry about not having one yourself.

#29 what is the definition of an assault weapon? Is it any weapon that is uses to assault someone? What about if you are defending yourself? Or is it any semi-automatic gun?

There is no where in the constitution that limits the type of gun one can own.

Spousal abusers, stalkers, rapists, robbers and murderers are standing up applauding this great idea to disarm more victims for them. They can´t wait for the people who get a flat in the ´wrong´ part of town, or the store owner/clerk to be disarmed. If one gun is good, ALL of them would be the best, right NY Daily News? Shotguns are easily demonstrated to be more deadly, how about making them the next target, after all handguns go down.

Idiotic sheeple in NYC may think they can charm the thug with a screwdriver they have ready to jam into their guts, but the rest of the world knows how this works. Either you are a fan of the China handles weapons or you appreciate the way Israel and Switzerland handle the problem.

#29, you clearly don´t live in a border state, such as Texas. Every drug runner that crosses into the USA(and they frequently do)is carrying a fully automatic weapon or a semi-auto. You think they fight only among themselves? No, they don´t. They fire at, or threaten to fire at our citizens-ranchers and the like. It is a war. So we´re supposed to defend ourselves with a popgun that Feinstein thinks is appropriate for the general population? You can if you want to, but I will opt for a little more firepower, thank you.

Also, Chuck U Schumer has an unrestricted pistol permit, and then an audio clip of a Harry Reid speech about how he carried "everywhere he went".

Forget about banning guns! We need to find the guns that committed these crimes, arrest them, and put them in jail with all the other guns that have assaulted people. Obviously we need to make sure the guns have a fair trial by a jury of their peers. I´m sure many decent law-abiding guns would be willing to serve on the jury to see that justice is done. Let´s face it: Some guns are just plain evil. The sooner we get the bad guns off the streets and in prison where they belong, the safer we will all be.

Some Republicans still cling to the hope that they´ll be able to repeal Obamacare someday, but a report released Wednesday by Families USA shows why it may be even harder for them to do so after Jan. 1. The report estimates that nearly 3 million Californians could be eligible for generous insurance subsidies under the 2010 healthcare reform law, starting next year. Anyone with an income between one and four times the federal poverty line -- in other words, between $23,550 and $94,200 for a family of four -- could receive a tax credit that reduces monthly premiums dramatically.

President Obama´s budget plan would increase taxes by $580 billion over the next decade, but it relies on many proposals that have been repeatedly rejected by Congress. Some were rejected as recently as January, when Congress voted to make permanent a series of tax cuts first enacted under President George W. Bush. Among them, a proposal to limit itemized deductions for high-income families. One new proposal is a 94 cents-a-pack increase in the cigarette tax. The tax would raise an estimated $78 billion over the next decade to pay for early childhood education.

Although the first votes on gun -control legislation have yet to be cast, by some measures the National Rifle Association has already won. Obama’s ambitious plans to ban assault weapons and limit magazine capacities are off the table, while the NRA suggested it could support the most likely outcome -- expanded background checks -- as recently as 1999. The NRA claims that the president’s efforts have triggered a fundraising surge and boosted its membership from 4 million to nearly 5 million.

Liberals descended on Pennsylvania Avenue Tuesday to protest President Barack Obama´s decision to include entitlement cuts in his upcoming budget, delivering 2 million petitions demanding the White House back off its support for the chained CPI. As we reported this weekend, liberals have been seething over the inclusion of the chained CPI in Obama´s budget, which they see as a huge betrayal by the Democratic president. This week, progressive groups, including MoveOn, the Progressive Change Campaign Committee, and Democracy for America, have mounted "emergency" online campaigns against the proposal, accusing Obama of

Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Kathleen Sebelius conceded Monday that implementing the Affordable Care Act has been more complicated and frustrating than the Obama administration expected, largely due to Republicans who have opposed the law´s state-based exchanges and Medicaid expansion. "The politics has been relentless and that continues," Sebelius said. "There was some hope that once the Supreme Court ruled in July, and then once an election occurred there would be a sense that, ´This is the law of the land, let´s get on board, let´s make this work.´"

In a stunning end to one of the most aggressively unsuccessful tenures in retail history, JCPenney (JCP) last night announced that CEO Ron Johnson would be leaving effective immediately. Myron Ullman, Johnson´s predecessor at JCPenney, takes office as CEO. When Johnson was initially wooed by JCPenney, it was to serve as CEO with Ullman as Chairman. In January 2012, Ullman was unceremoniously removed from the board. Gone with Ullman was any control the Board of Directors had over Ron Johnson and his control of JCPenney resources.

The state of California is reportedly considering legislation that would force group insurance policies to provide infertility treatment for gay and lesbian couples. Two men who have sex with each other for a year and do not produce a baby would be considered “infertile” under the proposed legislation. So would two women having sex. Since biology does not allow those without a uterus to conceive or those without a penis to impregnate, every year-long gay couple in California would potentially be covered by this new provision of California law.
