Mass shootings are actually
bad for gun control advocates

Pacific Standard, by Tom Jacobs

The tragic mass killings at that Connecticut school will undoubtedly spur renewed calls for gun control. According to one criminologist, that would be a welcome but somewhat ironic development, since mass school shootings seldom provide compelling evidence in favor of more restrictions on weapons. The scholarly journal American Behavioral Scientist devoted two issues in 2009 to the 10th anniversary of the Columbine High School mass killings and what, if anything, we have learned from them. That´s just garbage that "gun control will solved this problem"

We have to stop feeding the youth all the garbage in the rapper songs, the violant games that they constantly play and find work for them to do to keep occupied.

The liberal Democrats, the Progressives, and their allies in the anti-gun movement could care less about what surveys say about guns.

We are in an extreme period of national emotion right now after the school shooting in Connecticut. They believe that now is the time for them to push through an overreaching gun control law banning all semi-automatic rifles and handguns that can possibly utilize a clip or magazine holding more then 10 rounds of ammunition by defining those guns as being "assault weapons". In order to be successful they are going to have to move fast in the lame duck Congress to get their so-called "comprehensive" gun control bill through before the smoke clears and logic and reality come back into vogue. No matter what gun control passes the Congress Obama will sign it, thus taking certain rights away from hundreds of millions of law abiding Americans because of the criminal actions of a crazy man.

This is another instance of elections having consequences. All those conservatives who sat at home rather then vote for a Mormon just gave the gun control crowd an opening that they have been seeking for a long time.

July was supposed to mark the starting point for an amped-up economy. Instead, data on Friday showed the recovery remains stuck in second gear. The Labor Department said that the economy added 162,000 jobs in July— enough to nudge the unemployment rate down to 7.4 percent, but short of analysts’ expectations. The government also lowered its estimates of hiring during the previous two months and reported that workers earned less and put in fewer hours.

Stevie Wonder won´t be performing in Florida anytime soon. In the wake of the George Zimmerman acquittal, the singer said he would not be performing in the Sunshine State until its Stand Your Ground law is "abolished." He also said he would not be performing in any other state that recognizes the law, which some say contributed to Zimmerman´s acquittal in the shooting death of Florida teen Trayvon Martin on Feb. 26, 2012."I decided today that until the Stand Your Ground law is abolished in Florida, I will never perform there again,"

The offices of a Dallas law firm representing a high-profile State Department whistleblower were broken into last weekend. Burglars stole three computers and broke into the firm´s file cabinets. But silver bars, video equipment and other valuables were left untouched, according to local Fox affiliate KDFW, which aired security camera footage of the suspected burglars entering and leaving the offices around the time of the incident. The firm Schulman & Mathias represents Aurelia Fedenisn, a former investigator at the State Department's Office of the Inspector General.

Brush away all the rhetoric, all the vitriol, all the divisiveness from the presidential campaign. To most Americans, only one thing matters — the economy. Four years into Barack Obama’s presidency, economic growth is sputtering. Family incomes are down. Poverty is up. Business owners are reluctant to assume risk in the face of unending uncertainty. Many are holding on by their fingernails, desperate for signs of an economic recovery that will help them provide for themselves, their employees, their customers and their communities.

Attorney General Eric Holder strayed from prepared remarks to slam the way he was “treated” by a House committee the day before, calling it evidence of “ugly and divisive” civil rights challenges facing him and President Barack Obama. Speaking to the Rev. Al Sharpton’s National Action Network at its annual convention in New York on Wednesday, Holder talked about the state of civil rights today and brought up a House committee hearing Tuesday that grew contentious, according to video from Mediaite and reports from outlets including Capital New York. “The last five years have been defined by significant strides and

The son of the Nevada rancher locked in an increasingly tense land dispute with the federal government, says their cowboys managed to break a blockade and retrieve around 30 head of cattle. Federal agents swooped on Tuesday after Cliven Bundy, dubbed the last remaining rancher in southern Nevada, refused to remove his herd of 900 cows from land he claims has been in his family since 1870. The heavily-armed federal agents, equipped with eight helicopters and backed-up by snipers, surrounded the Bundy ranch after the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) attained a federal court order to confiscate the family´s herd. Barack Obama got quite the handful on Thursday, April 10, but it was all for a good cause! As the President of the United States was boarding Air Force One with his wife Michelle Obama, a gust of wind blew up her skirt. Barack quickly stepped in and grabbed the First Lady´s billowing skirt to help her avoid a wardrobe malfunction and embarrassing Marilyn Monroe moment. A new review is questioning the effectiveness of two key drugs enlisted in the fight against influenza and in turn the investments by governments to stockpile the drugs in the event of a global flu outbreak. The antiviral drugs Tamiflu (oseltamivir) and Relenza (zanamivir ) are commonly used to treat influenza in healthy adults and children. In the case of Tamiflu, the drug does shorten symptoms of influenza by about half a day - as the manufacturer suggests - but there is insufficient evidence to support claims that it reduces hospital admissions or serious complications, such as confirmed pneumonia or

Solar power has won the global argument. Photovoltaic energy is already so cheap that it competes with oil, diesel and liquefied natural gas in much of Asia without subsidies. Roughly 29pc of electricity capacity added in America last year came from solar, rising to 100pc even in Massachusetts and Vermont.[Snip] The technology is improving so fast--helped by the US military--that it has achieved a virtous circle. Michael Parker and Flora Chang, at Sanford Bernstein, say we entering a new order of "global energy deflation" that must ineluctably erode the viability of oil, gas and the fossil fuel nexus over time.

Nearly a year into the IRS scandal, we still don´t know exactly what happened—though we are finally getting an inkling. That´s thanks to the letter House Ways and Means Chairman Dave Camp sent this week to the Justice Department recommending a criminal probe of Lois Lerner. The average citizen might be dizzied by the torrent of confusing terms—BOLO lists, Tigta, 501(c)(4)—and the array of accusations that have made up this IRS investigation. Mr. Camp´s letter takes a step back to remind us why this matters, even as it provides compelling new information that goes to motive and method—and clarifies some of
