Can the Republican Party
Remain Relevant?

American Thinker, by Steve McCann

Original Article

Posted By:magnante, 12/17/2012 9:04:44 AM

Does the Republican Party want to remain relevant? Or are they willing to be cast, by the not so subtle scorched earth tactics of Barack Obama, the Democrats and the mainstream media, into permanent second class status, and eventual oblivion? The only political weapon, but a potentially powerful one, the Republicans have is control of the House of Representatives. The Speaker of the House thus becomes, by default, the national spokesman and face of the Party. This person is the one sitting alone across the table

Not without a change in leadership & breaking up the good old boy club that think they are what´s important in the party.

Newt??? Not in this lifetime - his baggage is piled so high, the dims would waltz right over him. We have a speaker now and that is who should tell the dims to get stuffed. Equally repulsive is the constant wailing that John is bad for the Republicans. Sounds like a bunch of traitors around him to me.

The GOP will continue to deteriorate if they listen to the extremists, the angry voices, those who hate, those who demand either/or black and white thinking.

The GOP needs to appeal to more people - not less.

The GOP won more then they lost this past election and also in 2010. Do some House cleaning and get rid of John Boehner.

Sure but will need to focus on economics and fiscal responsibility.

Illustrate how the gov´t under Obama has $1.3 trillion YEARLY debt, and how increase in taxes on the "rich" would only over 1 week´s worth of gov´t debt to show the absurdity of the Democrat "plan".

Then, focus on how the Democrats are against jobs, lower gasoline prices and how they both affect the average family.

I guess 30 governors, control of most state legislative chambers and a whole bunch of down the ballot offices are not relevant. The criticisms of the Speaker are valid, but I believe any new Speaker should come from the Republicans currently in the House. It´s not just the messenger. We have no message and our establishment Republicans don´t seem to have the intellectual acuity to develop one. Time to develop a new message and some new messengers from these very accomplished governors.

Judging by their behavior, I have always believed the GOP prefers to be in 2nd place. Even when they are in 1st place they think they are in 2nd place. California, Illinois and New York is a great examples. They automatically concede these states every election cycle. That`s somewhere around 100 electoral votes in a presidential year they don`t even fight for.

How do you expect to run a race when you can`t even tie your own shoes??

Unless it determined to fight rather than maintain stability it is hardly a dime of difference between socialists Democrats. Republicans seem to oppose Democrat principles only in word not in deed. Everything is about money. Never ever doubt it. Necktie party or civil war. Those are the choices left if freedom is valued.

Voter fraud was marginal and a canard to obscure the obvious; Romney was a feckless and inept candidate who stood for nothing. And the voters knew it. For the newborn, R Govs. were in control in all the battleground states.

Our Speaker of the House comes off to the country as a weepy, timid introvert who communicates poorly and negotiates badly. I actually worked with he and his staff on a project back in the nineties and I never dreamed then that I would be saying these things about him now. He has reached the Peter Principle (level of incompetence) as Speaker. In fact he nearly defines it. Hopefully he will be sent to the back bench after 2014, or sooner. The man does not have the stature or temperament to lead the GOP and he never will.

If Boehner (or a good replacement) had as much testosterone as Tip O´Neill, he could go to the pResident and repeat Tip´s great statement to Ronald Reagan:

You won the presidency, act presidential, we won the House and I will do my Constitutional duty in the House with spending.

Actually, it is the current dem party, now apparently thoroughly radicalized by its tenured aging ´60s militant politicos, which is destroying itself as Americans are observing the disasterous results of their statist policies implimented during the past 40 years. The dems countless special interest groups managed to fool, ´some of the people some of the time,´ for their votes but their bogus PC house of cards is tumbling down all around ´em now. What theatrical opportunistic phonies dem pols are! The current party leaders do not represent mainstream America but rather the far left wing. There is no longer even room for discussion of the issues within the dem party because there are no conservatives remaining in that closed-shop/closed-minded/tunnel-visioned party.

The GOP IS also a mixed bag, so to speak, right now but at least that party still offers the best chance for the future through its growing list of responsible conservative leaders. Thus, Constitutional principles of Liberty still have a chance with the GOP. ...Rational thinkers are still welcomed there by most.

Reply 21 - Posted by: LanieLou, 12/17/2012 10:58:38 PM     (No. 9071864)

Voter fraud has been irrevocably intertwined in our election process. When the WH handed their re-election miscreants the nat´l SS database, all they had to do was program each district for the votes they needed. Now Holder is playing CYA... suggesting all Americans be automatically registered to vote.... Why? Because he already voted for them & that´s why some districts had 150% participation.

Ther is no way to clean up the damage. The best we can hope for is someone strong enough to stop the carnage, before the constitution is torn up. Boehner has given up. Newt would not.

I seriously feel the GOP dead... The MSM made sure every American knows we are racist, rich, selfish & anti- world.

I think the 23 states that filed to secede do so together, forming a new American nation based solely on the constitution. No other laws except Bill of Rights. No special interest, no minorities.. no welfare. Give folks 90 days to relocate to their choice of a Free America or an Obamanation... then close the borders. Only invite those who are self sufficient to join.

Lots of trolls out today pretending to be Santa´s little elves. On the other hand, #12 has good common sense in that post. The GOP does NOT need to be ´big tent´ in the sense that the party leans more to the left in the vain hope of persuading some independents to vote R. If the Rs then become D Lite, there´s even less reason to vote that way. More and more I´m inclined to support a Conservative 3rd party.

During the highly publicized exchange between Bill O´Reilly and Laura Ingraham on gay marriage, O´Reilly made this statement: "There are Bible thumpers, and all they do is say, ´I object to gay marriage because God objects to it.´ You don´t win a policy debate in America with that." Really? Before central control out of Washington was imposed in 2003, policy arguments for criminalizing homosexual acts were won explicitly "with that." And because of "that," the idea of gay marriage has been unthinkable throughout the history of the American nation.

It´s one thing for President Obama to be cocky and overstate his prowess at governing. People are used to politicians grabbing credit, and besides, you can always rationalize when it comes to explaining why things didn´t quite work out as you claimed they would - "the sequester ate my recovery" being the latest successful-enough example. But sports is something else. The basketball either goes through the hoop or it doesn´t. That´s why President Obama´s history of braggadocio regarding his prowess at hoops is having a potent effect on his overall public image, especially with those who are favorably inclined to him.

Recent research indicates that the number of people who do not consider themselves a part of an organized religion is steadily on the rise. Interestingly enough, though the number of those religiously unaffiliated is increasing, there is little to no trend in the number of those who express atheist or agnostic beliefs. People aren’t saying they don’t believe in God. They’re saying they don’t believe in religion. They are not rejecting Christ. They are rejecting the church. This begs the question, “Why are we losing our religion?”

Gluten-free diets are all the rage, but they can be dangerous if not done right. What is gluten? It´s the spongy complex of proteins, found naturally in wheat, rye, and barley, that gives elasticity to dough and allows it to rise. When flour is moistened and either kneaded or mixed into dough, gluten molecules form an elastic, microscopic latticework that traps the carbon dioxide produced when yeast ferments, causing dough to inflate like a hot air balloon. Baking hardens the gluten, which helps the finished product keep its shape. Wheat — and gluten — is ubiquitous in the American diet.
