Former school is prepped
for Sandy Hook pupils

NEWTOWN, Conn. -- Pupils from Sandy Hook Elementary School will return to classes at a former school building about 15 minutes away and may never go back to the school where a gunman killed 20 first-graders and six teachers and administrators. Work crews descended on the former Chalk Hill Middle School in Monroe on Sunday morning to make it ready for pupils by Wednesday, although no date has been set for the children to resume classes, Monroe Police Lt. Brian McCauley said. The two-story building sits along a winding, wooded road next to a new middle school and an elementary school.

I did not see how they could ever use Sandy Hook again.

As for the other stuff that is swirling about, it is unseemly to be making snarky comments. We should be mourning the dead children.

There is no way that we can make the world a completely safe place for ourselves or are children. A bitter pill to swallow, but the truth.

Our moronic president said we must not "tolerate this" any more. We have never tolerated it. But that doesn´t mean that from time to time a mentally ill or disaffected person will not do us harm.

Why can´t they use the school again? Just clean the place up. Soon there will be an announcement of a brand new, state-of-the-art, union built school/shrine. Never let a tragedy go to waste.

If bloodshed is an excuse to close something down then why are Chicago and Detroit still open?

I agree with the abandonment of the Sandy Hook school. If the tragedy had occurred at a high school, the students and teachers might be able to adjust. But, Sandy Hook was an elementary school. Young kids don´t need the additional trauma of attending school where they were terrorized.

Why couldn´t the school be used again in years, after renaming, remodeling and all kids who went there are in middle school?

A plane crash at Smolensk in Russia four years ago wiped out the Warsaw leadership. It used to be seen as an accident. Now, after Putin’s games in Ukraine, people aren’t so sure. Four years ago this week, Polish President Lech Kaczynski was killed in a plane crash near the Katyn Forest in Russia where he was flying to honor the 22,000 Polish officers, lawyers, priests and professors slaughtered there by the Soviets 70 years before. Ninety-five other military, political and public figures including his wife died on that plane. One of the more heartbreaking details to emerge was that First

Last week Hillary Clinton gave what appeared at first to be a rambling and unfocused answer when asked to name the proudest achievement of her four years as Secretary of State. The short version is, she doesn´t have one. But Clinton´s words make a lot more sense when seen not as a non-answer to a specific question but as an effort to lay the foundation and establish a theme for a presidential campaign. The occasion was her appearance on a panel discussion at the "Women in the World" meeting in Manhattan. It was pretty easy going; the moderator, New York Times

“I see lobbying,” Tony Podesta has said, “as getting information in the hands of people who are making decisions so they can make more informed decisions.” Last week the information Tony Podesta was giving was the divorce complaint he had filed in D.C. Court against his wife Heather. The hands receiving that information belonged to a gossip columnist for the Washington Post, who made the “informed decision” to report on it. Later in the day Heather, who is also a lobbyist, informed the Post the text of her counter-suit. It published a follow-up. The documents, which you can read below, did

President Obama‘s former body man Reggie Love is — ahem — loving life. Specifically, life outside the White House. Thursday, The Mirror spotted him at lunch, dining al fresco at BLT Steak, a short sprint from the White House. If the 32-year-old was ever a tense, stressed out aide in a suit, you wouldn’t know it. He was relaxed, at ease, and sipping lemonade as he chatted away with what looked to be a longtime female friend, possibly a former coworker. So, of course, The Mirror listened in. Love left the Obama Administration in 2011 to earn his MBA at the University of

President Obama met privately Thursday with Texas state Sen. Wendy Davis, the Democratic nominee for governor, amid accusations by her GOP opponent that she’s afraid to be seen in public with the president. A White House aide said Mr. Obama “visited briefly” with Ms. Davis following his remarks at the LBJ Presidential Library in Austin to mark the 50th anniversary of the Civil Rights Act. The meeting took place after reporters traveling with Mr. Obama had been moved into vans, so they didn’t witness the meeting. Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott, the Republican nominee for governor, has publicly dared Ms. Davis to be

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is the sound of nails scratching on the Blackboard Jungle. The body ostensibly honored Kiss, Cat Stevens, Nirvana, and Peter Gabriel, among others, by inducting them into their club last night at a party at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. But the real honor goes to all those bands—Def Leppard, The Cure, Cheap Trick, etc.—snubbed from the guest list. The Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs and "Be-Bop-A-Lula" and "Awopbopaloobop Alopbamboom" don’t belong cooped up behind a glass case in a museum. In his Senate Foreign Relations Committee testimony last week, Secretary of State John Kerry blamed Israel for the breakdown in peace negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians. He argued that an Israeli announcement of 700 new housing units for a neighborhood in Jerusalem were what did in the talks. “Poof, that was sort of the moment,” Kerry said. “We find ourselves where we are.” This is an amazing claim, especially when the housing units are not in a settlement—but are in Jerusalem, Israel’s capital, in a location that every Israeli and every Palestinian knows will be part of Israel in

Express Scripts is a giant company (Fortune 100) that manages pharmacies and prescription drug processing. They’ve got some new data to share on how their customers are purchasing or obtaining prescription drugs: Unlike medical claims that can take several months to process, pharmacy claims adjudicate in real time. It has long been recognized that “liberal” and “progressive” are misnomers when it comes to describing American leftists in the 21st Century. They may fancy themselves as forward-thinking but they go back eighty or so years whenever it’s time to craft economic policy and their racial politics gaze backward a half century. Most of the time. At the Civil Rights Summit in Austin this week, there were some prominent Democrats who surveyed the landscape and admitted that things are, in fact, much different now than they were in the early 1960s. Things have changed. That was the message delivered during

BEIJING — In 1970, when China was in the grip of the Cultural Revolution, Zhang Hongbing, a 16-year-old in Guzhen, a county in Anhui Province, made a fateful decision. During a family debate that year, his mother, Fang Zhongmou, had criticized Mao Zedong for his cult of personality. Her son and his father, believing her views to be counterrevolutionary, decided to inform on her. She was arrested that same day. Mr. Zhang still recalls how his mother’s shoulder joints gave a grating creak as her captors pulled the cord tight. Two months later, she was shot to death. In 1980, four years

Al Sharpton was thick as thieves with a notorious drug trafficker when he became an FBI informant — and even convinced then-US Sen. Alfonse D’Amato to get them $600,000 in federal funding for their “anti-drug” program. The portly preacher had just helped D’Amato win a tough 1986 re-election over Mark Green when he turned to the powerful lawmaker for the funding. Sharpton’s plan was to use a church-owned Brooklyn building for his program and give control to Robert Curington, who was labeled a Class 1 trafficker by the Drug Enforcement Administration because of his ties to major heroin dealers, according

A new review is questioning the effectiveness of two key drugs enlisted in the fight against influenza and in turn the investments by governments to stockpile the drugs in the event of a global flu outbreak. The antiviral drugs Tamiflu (oseltamivir) and Relenza (zanamivir ) are commonly used to treat influenza in healthy adults and children. In the case of Tamiflu, the drug does shorten symptoms of influenza by about half a day - as the manufacturer suggests - but there is insufficient evidence to support claims that it reduces hospital admissions or serious complications, such as confirmed pneumonia or

Solar power has won the global argument. Photovoltaic energy is already so cheap that it competes with oil, diesel and liquefied natural gas in much of Asia without subsidies. Roughly 29pc of electricity capacity added in America last year came from solar, rising to 100pc even in Massachusetts and Vermont.[Snip] The technology is improving so fast--helped by the US military--that it has achieved a virtous circle.
