Amid all its political correctness and ideological distortion, one thing often overlooked concerning the mainstream media is its essential strangeness, its near-total separation from any behavior, attitudes, or ideas that could be defined as "normal". We find yet another example of this in the treatment of Adam Lanza, the Newtown CT shooter. A photograph released by the wire services reveals a delicate-looking kid with a shy smile and a goofy haircut. (snip)But there´s another photo extant as well, one that has not seen such wide circulation
Although I am not thrilled with the article, I do believe there will be an effort to sanitize the killer in order to shift blame to guns. Count on it.
We say it is not guns, it is poeple like this who have the propensity for violence. If this is the case, expect the MSM and the miserabe politician come out blaming guns, and demonizing the mother, something that has started already.
You can also count on an unimaginative hollwood to push out the screenplay ´oh, he wasn´t that bad, it was the mother, and his sickness, and the bad guns. The next step is to find an a sympathetic actor to play him.
J. R. Dun is taking advantage here and blaming the media where no blame is due! The media has run this frightening picture more than the other. The media for once is not molly-coddling this killer. Their coverage has been rather fair and balanced except where they have already started calling for gun control, as they always knee-jerk do in these cases. Plenty of time left for the media to go liberal batshit crazy and they no doubt will but so far, so good.
#6. I fault the media. They rushed information out time and time again, only to be forced to back track and correct it later. Running an old picture for what reason? They are baying hounds believing if it bleeds it leads. Trying to interview small children right after the incident. Look at some of the headlines "blazing guns" ? Next thing will be headlines banning forks because they cause obesity.
I agree the author is forcing a weak argument to make his point here. The second photo does disturb me a little. He has "buggy" eyes with the whites showing below the pupils. This is often an early sign of Graves disease or hyperthyroidism(look up exopthalmos) which untreated can lead to psychotic behavior. Just a thought.
Hollywood plays as big a role as any group. Out of Hollywood has come some of the most violent, horrific movies with murder, rape, you name it. People sit in front of the violence rolling past their faces. If the mind is already faltering then they get the idea they can replay the violence they have seen in the movies and the video games. So, if we proceed like the mouths of Hollywood started spouting hours after this horrific event then I guess we need to not only take guns from people but let us also silence Hollywood and require them to produce morally sound films. Oops! Now everyone knows violent morally corrupt movies sell. There is blame everywhere. There evidently was a mental illness going on here untreated or not taken seriously, put that with violent movies (which by the way involve guns) violent video games where you kill and kill and kill and sleep and get up the next day and the same images you killed yesterday are back! No consequence for killing with a video game...the sick mind then moves to the the next level.
Adam Lanza represents the second generation of children who grew up without God in school. This is part of what I learned in elementary school: "Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things." Phillippians 4:8 The Bible´s wisdom is far-reaching. Adam could have benefitted by a mind disciplined with love and goodness. Video games that teach violence and revenge are destroying our youngsters.
If you think about it,what are he liberals for in a situation like this? People to be sitting ducks since they despise CC as an option.Liberals are knee jerk about everything else, why not just say ban guns as a solution.Who care if shootings, burglaries, murders, rapes and robberies go through the roof?
I understand exactly what the author is saying. The media is on a mission to separate gun violence from mental illness. It is a relentless enemy of the Second Amendment.
We first see the face of a guileless looking youngster. If he reminds us of a favorite nephew, or the polite young man next door, so much the better. We draw the desired first impression. Why, this makes no sense! The shooter looks like a regular kid...he just snapped with no warning.
But of course, this is not true. Within a day or two, another photo turns up, and then we know. Another dangerous, mentally ill male has been walking the streets and plotting revenge against the real and imagined enemies living in his head. And the "meaningful action" proposed is always the same. Separate law abiding citizens from their rights.
It will be interesting to learn if the school reported his altercation from the day before the massacre. If the police were called, what happened next? He had a troubled history. Was he detained and evaluated by mental health professionals? Or were there legal hurdles, focused on protecting him instead of the majority?
Perhaps, if the media are manipulating images as they almost ALWAYS do, for political and ratings purposes (often one and the same), if you have the image of a skinny, pathetic youngster in your mind´s eye mind when you ponder the crime, you´ll end up blaming the weapon.
On the other hand, when you look into the wide open eyes of a lost person, one contemplating murder with some --one must guess with some sense... of satisfaction?-- with some pleasure... the images of millions of victims of tyrants speed through my mind... these sadistic murderers derived enjoyment from the incalculable suffering inflicted... there really are human beings like this among us.
Compare the second photo of Lanza with photos of James Holmes and Jared Loughner. As a matter of fact, think of Charles Manson, and any number of other similar perpetrators. They look exactly the same.
I think drugs are probably the main culprit, legal or illegal, i don´t know. But throw those into the mix, into the toxic waste dump which our culture has become, and you´re bound to end up with weak, tortured souls just totally incapable OR unwilling to articulate a call for help.
This brings us back to the media, where the toxic waste is churned and mixed and spewed out day in and day out.
#5: I agree. I have seen both pictures, but I don´t even understand why they keep using the first. It´s a picture 2005 or something! Useless. I think they are using that so that they can shift the blame to guns. When you see the guy as an adult you give him more responsibility. When you see him as a kid you give him less and look elsewhere for something to blame.
was this murderer from a democrat home? Was he reared to believe that all people are ´special ´ and that everyone deserves (and gets ) a trophy? Why is no one talking about these Goth freaks and their underworld?? Why is no one willing to discuss keeping us safe from psychotic whack jobs ?????
BUT, the problem remains the drugs and our culture. Our culture has become a toxic breeding grounds for all sorts of pernicious pathology. We´ve abandoned a Christian social order for "the will of the people." How could it end otherwise.
Informed consent is a big deal in health care. And it should be. (snip) Once a woman says she wants an abortion, medical standards and norms change. If the process of getting informed consent involves making the unknown, known, the process in the abortion industry is all about unknowing. When I regrettably and wrongly had an abortion many years ago, no one at Planned Parenthood explained anything to me -- and I mean nothing -- about my baby´s development. No one even showed me a picture of a 3-month old baby in the womb.
San Diego mayor and veteran Congressman Bob Filner is a serial molester of women who enjoyed immunity from exposure by his friends in the media who "pretty much knew" about his abuses but chose to ignore them as a non-story. We know this because a brave member of the San Diego media crowd has admitted it.(snip) Scorn is the appropriate response. The San Diego media deserves a big helping of humiliation over covering this up. There is no profession more conscious of prestige than the media. Just look at all the awards they give each other.
As a black conservative tea party activist, I am extremely excited about Bill O´Reilly´s recent series of commentaries and TV shows addressing the hypocrisy and exploitation by the American race industry that has and continues to devastate the black community. O´Reilly boldly called out all of the usual suspects: Sharpton, Jackson, the Congressional Black Caucus and Obama. Eric Holder and others on the left have been whining and arrogantly scolding us saying that we need an honest discussion about race in America.
How is the U.S. like Sweden? In its low murder rate. That is, if you include in the statistics only non-blacks in the U.S. legally.(snip)In round numbers, there are about 250 million non-blacks in the U.S. legally. So their murder rate is about 1.0 per 100,000, or the same as Sweden´s. A murder rate of 1.0 is in the same league as the Europeans who like to call us gun-crazy cowboys. But it´s not the "cowboys" who are doing the killing. (In fact, Idaho, Montana, Utah, and Wyoming have murder rates significantly lower than the U.S. average.
Poor lil´ Huma, croaks the liberal media. A wifey ensnared in her infamous husband´s sordid sexual adventures. Huma Abedin is a victim -- victimhood being a checkbox for libs and a handy excuse for anyone who runs afoul the law, stupid choices, indecency, laziness, Faustian deals with the devil, trumped-up racism, trumped-up homophobia, trumped-up xenophobia, real political corruption, hand-washing compulsion, and whatever else can be appended to victimhood. Poor lil´ Huma is a victim, all right. She´s a victim of her own self-willed choice; of a match made not much from kismet than cold calculation.
Remember when scientists and other truth-seekers used to get all riled up about the way the Catholic Church treated Galileo? The outcry was not over the fact that Galileo was a "peer-reviewed" researcher, and therefore beyond question. Quite the contrary: the argument was that, from the point of view of the quest for truth, no one, including the representatives of official orthodoxy and authority, ought to be regarded as beyond question. In the Michael Mann lawsuit against Mark Steyn and National Review, it is the "award-winning researcher" who is joining the fight for Church orthodoxy
Money can´t buy the kind of political boost Huma Abedin is receiving. Like her mentor Hillary Clinton, the stand-by-your-man strategy will be her gateway to widespread popularity and respect. Don´t feel sorry for the Democrats over losing a former rising star politician like Anthony Weiner, whose future is so hopeless that even the New York Times says it´s time to go. They have gained an even more promising candidate for high office. Huma Abedin is better-looking, better spoken, and more appealing than her role model.(snip)Although raised in Saudi Arabia, Ms. Abedin was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan, a natural born American.
Much has been made of Obama´s impromptu crashing of the press briefing at the White House the other day to weigh in yet again on Trayvon Martin´s death. The reception of Obama´s discussion reminded me of the movie The King´s Speech, where the man who would be king of England had to give just one good speech, so all of England would feel comfort. As in the movie, I chuckled at the big deal made by "reporters" that the man who is supposed to be a great orator and "Leader of the formerly Free World" did so without his "blankie,"
Now we have proof that the current Obama-Holder campaign against stand-your-ground laws is nothing more than a pose intended to distract from their political problems, having whipped up a racialist fury and pushed prosecution of George Zimmerman. Although State Senator Barack Obama could boast of few legislative accomplishments, one thing he did do was co-sponsor a bill strengthening the Illionois stand-your-ground law. The Illinois Review writes: The Obama-sponsored bill (SB 2386) enlarged the state´s 1961 law by shielding the person who was attacked from being sued in civil court by perpetrators or their estates
Did the IRS intervene in Federal election campaigns for Congress? According to the Washington Times, U.S. Treasury investigative special agent Dennis Martel has uncovered a new example of political abuse. On March 9, 2010, Christine O´Donnell´s personal income tax records were illegally accessed by a Delaware public official. Sen. Charles Grassley (R-IA) reports that a previously-undisclosed "back door" to the IRS computer system was used to invade the privacy of Christine O´Donnell´s tax records. Who knew? It turns out that state government criminal investigators can directly -- though illegally -- access IRS records through a "back door."
We live in a time of extraordinary media corruption when testimony late last week tying a presidential political appointee to the IRS´ suppression of the president´s political opposition was widely ignored, except for Fox News and the conservative talk radio and internet ghetto. But at least one brave journalist in the MSM is speaking up about the disgraceful suppression of an important story of political corruption of the highest order. Mike Hashimoto, an editorial writer of the Dallas News, is bothered by this media corruption. He posted a blog Friday, calling out his employer and AP
We can now officially say that the IRS harassment of conservative groups is a political scandal connected to the Obama political machine. Despite the best obfuscatory efforts of Obama henchmen like Rep. Elijah Cummings, yesterday the IRS scandal was tied to a political appointee of President Obama. Step-by-step the chain is being followed upward (snip)Now we begin to prepare the vice to squeeze the Obama political appointee, perhaps making an immunity grant to Lois Lerner a possibility. Keep in mind, it is not an offer, it is an involuntary grant she cannot refuse.
Conservative bloggers went wild Monday when they got wind of the Congressional Black Caucus’ suggestion that President Obama pick Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee of Houston for the post of Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security. Rich Cooper, avid blogger for Security Debrief, responded to the news of the Jackson Lee recommendation in a post by saying, “Apparently, it is not a joke. For reasons that baffle any sense of reality, it is a serious gesture on the part of the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) to encourage President Obama to nominate Rep. Jackson Lee
There have been days since her son Ezekiel was born 11 months ago that Los Angeles mom Beth Capper has gone without food to keep up her supply. One friend was arrested for stealing some. It´s not drugs or alcohol or even baby formula that has put her in such a bind. It´s diapers. "There´s no way around buying them," said Capper, a 41-year-old single mother who doesn´t work because of a disability. Across the country, mothers like Capper are facing the same predicament. America is in great shape energy-wise. We have more gas and oil reserves than ever before. Indeed, the United States could shortly become the world’s largest exporter of coal. Our cheaper power rates may bring energy-intensive industry back from Europe and Asia. Anthony Weiner may have violated federal law when he failed to disclose his lavish six-figure wedding in his financial disclosure forms, says a government accountability group. Ethics watchdog group National Legal and Policy Center examined the federal Financial Disclosure Reports for both Weiner and long-suffering wife Huma Abedin for 2010, the year of their wedding. The cost for the ceremony was at least $100,000 but probably ran closer to $250,000 including all
In an interview on National Public Radio (NPR), House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi said her new agenda for women will give mothers access to day care so they can “earn without carrying the burden of child care.” During the interview, aired on Weekend Edition Sunday, Pelosi spoke about her newly announced agenda, which is on her website, and is titled, “When Women Succeed, America Succeeds: An Economic Agenda for Women and Families,” a plan that includes universal pre-school and access to day care for working women, and an increase in the minimum wage.
Many low-income families receive government assistance to help them purchase food and housing. Diapers are another story, a new study suggests. In what they are calling the first peer-reviewed study to quantify diaper need, Yale University researchers have found nearly a third of mothers cannot afford to purchase their infants diapers, raising health risks for not only babies but for moms who become stressed over the finances. "Notably absent from the antipoverty efforts targeting families is an essential staple for the health of children, diapers," wrote the researchers, led by Dr. Megan Smith,
Mideast: The sequester has "cost jobs," says President Obama, and "gutted investments in education and science and medical research." But somehow he´s earmarked $500 million for Hamas terrorists. Circumventing Congress and with no fanfare, President Obama last week issued an executive order enabling him to send an additional $500 million directly to the Palestinian Authority in the West Bank — much of which you can bet will wind up going to the Iranian-backed Hamas terrorist organization. According to Obama, "it is important to the national security interests of the United States to waive the provisions of" Congress´ legislative restrictions "in
The mother of Trayvon Martin said Monday that she believed Florida’s Stand Your Ground law played a role in her son’s shooting death, but she wasn’t ready to support a boycott of the state for not changing the self-defense law. “The thing about this law is I just think it assisted the person who killed my son to get away with murder,” Sybrina Fulton, the mother of the 17-year-old from Miami Gardens, said at a National Bar Association event in Miami Beach. “I think we have to change these laws so people don’t get
A group of experts advising the nation’s premier cancer research institution has recommended sweeping changes in the approach to cancer detection and treatment, including changes in the very definition of cancer and eliminating the word entirely from some common diagnoses. Karl Rove and more than one hundred Republican donors sent a letter to Republican members of Congress on Tuesday, urging them to pass a comprehensive immigration reform bill that would include, among other provisions, granting "legal status" to illegal aliens who meet certain criteria. Anticipating that lawmakers will face resistance to the bill when they go home for the August recess, the letter marks the escalation of a campaign in which Republican leaders and donors are pressuring House Republicans to act on an immigration reform bill.
