Obama: ´Approximately 166
Detainees at Guantanamo Bay´

Weekly Standard, by Daniel Halper

Original Article

Posted By:JoniTx, 12/16/2012 10:19:23 AM

The White House revealed yesterday that there "approximately 166 detainees at Guantanamo Bay" right now. The news was in Obama´s "war powers resolution" letter, which is meant "to keep the Congress informed about deployments of U.S. Armed Forces equipped for combat."(Snip) Obama famously promised to close the Guantanamo detention facility within a year of becoming president of the United States. But as he acknowledges, it´s still open with "approximately 166 detainees" nearly four full years after Obama was first sworn in as president. It is not clear why Obama is only able to approximate the number of detainees

Being really exact about anything is generally avoided by serial liars.

Getting all numerical can also be a buzz kill.

Like that whole budget thingee....who needs it ?

“Well, I’m not going to catalogue...”-- White House Press Secretary Jay Carney refusing to define what he and President Obama meant when talking about “phony scandals.” Carney, though, intimated that the targeting of political groups by the IRS and the doctored White House talking points on the Islamist raid on a U.S. outpost in Benghazi, Libya were “phony.” We now know that IRS honchos shared information about conservative groups with other agencies, using the vast data in the IRS databanks to help other federal officials make cases against conservatives. Progressive Activists to Disrupt

A progressive group will coordinate with liberal activists to disrupt Republican town halls during the August recess, when lawmakers will face questions about Obamacare and comprehensive immigration reform. Americans United for Change, run by a former Democratic National Committee communications head, plans to send activists to Republican town halls in swing states and even red states to target lawmakers like Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX). "This is a new approach. The theory in the past has been to be stealth about the effort to confront members at town halls--but sometimes it´s been too stealth, and we haven’t generated enough activity,"

WASHINGTON — Former Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. has filed his final House financial disclosure report more than six months late, a filing that sheds little light on how he will pay a $750,000 forfeiture for looting his campaign treasury. Jackson, 48, is awaiting sentencing on Aug. 14. Federal prosecutors want him behind bars for four years. His wife, Sandi Jackson, 49, a former Chicago alderman, will be sentenced the same day for a federal tax violation. The government has urged that she spend 18 months in prison. In his plea deal, Jackson agreed to pay the $750,000 forfeiture and

A new Republican poll shows Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-La.) in a potentially tough spot for reelection, with more than half of respondents open to reelecting a new senator next year. The survey, from GOP firm Magellan Strategies, reveals 51 percent of respondents say it´s "time to give a new person a chance" in office. Thirty-nine percent agreed that Landrieu has performed her job well enough to "deserve to be reelected." Though those numbers are bad news for Landrieu, they´re not a clear indication half of Louisiana voters will vote to oust her.

In the tiny farming community of Morven, Ga., the police chief has grabbed three boats, scuba gear, rescue rafts and a couple of dozen life preservers. Undocumented immigrants with temporary legal status soon will be allowed to pay in-state tuition rates at all Ohio public colleges as long as they meet other residency requirements. Until now, most of the state’s public two- and four-year schools have charged those students out-of-state or international rates that can be as much as three times what Ohio students pay. Today, Ohio Board of Regents Chancellor John Carey sent a letter notifying the state’s college presidents about the change, after state Attorney General Mike DeWine determined that immigrant students now may qualify for in-state tuition.

President Obama has been rolling up his sleeves campaigning across the country delivering a surreal stump speech message supposedly aimed at the middle class: big government works, Obamacare is manna from heaven, the wave of recent scandals are “phony” figments of the imagination, and all economic problems are the fault of the Republicans. Conveniently, he leaves out the bankruptcy of Detroit, a city run by his own party for more than half a century. His message is so stale and unconvincing, that even The New York Times and Washington Post have noticed. Both papers, usually loyal to Obama, remarked that

The correspondence suggests the discrimination of conservative groups extended beyond the IRS and into the FEC, where an attorney from the agency’s enforcement division in at least one case sought and received tax information about the status of a conservative group,

Sen. John McCain — a Democrat? There was confusion Wednesday after the Arizona Republican mistakenly strolled into President Obama’s meeting with Senate Democrats at the Capitol. The room full of Democrats — who happened to be meeting in the same room where the Senate GOP usually holds their weekly policy luncheons — erupted in applause and laughter as the former Republican presidential candidate made his entrance. As McCain, 76, walked out of the Dem-filled space, reporters pressed him as to why he stepped foot in the room.

No matter how much you may hope for it, it seems unlikely that you´ll be using the phrase "Senator Sarah Palin" with any great regularity in 2015. A new poll indicates that the former Alaska governor is about as popular in the state as Barack Obama — which is to say, not very popular at all. But even more surprising, while the former vice presidential candidate has made Alaska a central part of her public image, the state´s residents split on the question of whether Palin is all that Alaskan.
