Many single women,
a key bloc, are avoiding GOP

DENVER- Sara Stevenson spends her working hours surrounded by Republicans, namely the married men who work alongside her in a Denver oil and gas firm company. But after hours and on weekends, she usually spends her time with other single women, and there´s not a Republican in sight among the bunch. "There was just no way I could have supported any Republican this year," said Stevenson, 31. "They skew so much to the religious right. ... They focused so much on taxes. It´s not something that women in my demographic really care about. I´ve never heard my friends lament

As a woman I hate to say this, but most women are very shallow. Have you ever seen a woman carry on about a broken finger nail? Have you ever been to a gathering where you try to have an intelligent conversation about a topic of the day and find women disinterested? I know that I am stereotyping, but this has been my experience amongst so called educated women; Oy!

When will I be given the choice to vote for a candidate who is a social liberal and a fiscal conservative? It seems that if I want fiscal responsibility in government that I have to also accept the morality and pronouncements of the religious right.

"There are just so many off-putting comments from the Republican party," Stevenson said. "It´s crazy to me that they´re still acting as if women are a niche market."

Aren´d Dems, AP and the rest of the media doing the same thing?

Reply 7 - Posted by: rpool, 12/15/2012 11:07:39 AM     (No. 9067343)

#6 is absolutely correct and that Stevenson does not know this is sad evidence that many single women are "low information" voters. Note I did not say "all", just many. Democrats invented, honed and routinely employ identity politics, as does the MSM. If you are a single woman and think you are not identified, bundled and objectified as a quantified entity by the Democratic Party, you have a lot of intellectual catching up to do. It boils down to paying attention, not to what you may feel is interesting, but to what is important. You are going to have contraceptives if you need them, whether you buy them or the government does. You are not going to have anything - job, savings and contraceptives - unless the government gets deficit spending and the national debt under control, boring or not.

I would like to think that there is a way to promote fiscal sanity (we´re miles and miles from conservatism in this country!) and societal sanity (again we´re miles and miles away from any kind of conservatism) that isn´t off-putting to single women.

I am trying to understand what more the electorate could want. Maybe we argue "sustainability". We must have safety nets that are sustainable.

Or maybe they won´t be happy until they have all of my money.

Would an appeal to fairness reach them? Or do they then just say they want my money "for someone else"?

Sara Stevenson is only 31. These days you can reach the age of 31, and still be young and foolish.

She still has her head stuffed full of Leftist bilge. She probably went to public school, followed by a Leftist college.

It took me until the ripe old age of 30 to become a conservative, and at that point, I´d had the benefit of being married and having children. Those things made me grow up.

So there is hope for Sara, but not if she continues to choose a "Sex and the City" lifestyle, condemning herself to a lonely and bitter end.

The Millennial Generation simply refuses to grow up.

I would love to meet the woman who is quoted as saying she doesn´t want a family, isn´t ready to be responsible for children. I´d tell her that it is fine that she doesn´t start a family yet but it isn´t fine that she expects me to be her safety net. If you´re not ready to care for others, that´s okay but she´s old enough to be responsible for her own life.

Who raised these pathetic losers?

Very good posts here, but I wish that the more libertarian minded like poster #2 would come to understand that fiscal conservatism and social conservatism are inextricably intertwined, politics notwithstanding. People who are clueless or undisciplined in their personal behaviors have created a society which is increasingly dependent on government, and reflects that dependency in its voting patterns.

They don´t call the GOP the stupid party for nothing. Putting down women is about the supidist thing you could do.

The GOP should have taken the senate this year except for their stupidity in candidates. Women will never tolerate that. Learn, grow or die.

A child born to a single woman is half an orphan. If anything happens to the mother, that child has no parents. This dramatically increases risk and insecurity for the child. That child is also denied the resources and support that a father´s extended family would have offered. Half the number of uncles, aunts, and cousins. Half the number of grandparents. No division of labor between two active, committed parents. No diversity in parenting approaches between mother and father. Who among us would choose that childhood for ourselves? Who in their right mind would choose that for their child?

It´s not about what the single mother wants. It´s about what´s best for the child, and who speaks for that child. Accidents happen, misfortune abounds, and our children are hostages to fate. As a society, we need to give them every advantage we can. Voluntary single motherhood is a bad idea that places children at greater risk. That´s the point where morality and practicality coincide.

The women, regardless of education and position, almost always grabbed the lifestyle section first, then the local news and then maybe the national news.

Whether male or female, liberals tend towards emotion rather than logic. There is no proof, for instance, that more gun control would prevent tragedies like the one that happened this week or that higher taxes on "the rich" will generate more revenue or solve our economic problems. They respond to logic with name-calling.

Maybe economic issues like taxes are not important to single women because maybe they don´t pay a lot of income taxes. Most liberal young people become more "conservative" as they get older because they begin to see how much government gets from their hard work in the form of taxes. Single women don´t appear to me to be an opportunity for Republicans to win. Unless the Republicans become the Democrats then we are just one happy party and can get along together.

#2: Social liberalism and fiscal conservatism are polar opposites. You can´t be fiscally conservative, truly, and socially liberal. Fiscal conservatism is about spending money wisely on only the necessities to run government.

Social liberalism wants to dump tax dollars on ´starving artists´ and people who refuse to work....among other things....that government should never be involved in funding in the first place.

You need to choose which is more important to you: fiscal conservatism or social liberalism.

If I may offer my advice: choose fiscal conservatism so you can keep more of what you earn. That way you can donate as much of your own money as you wish to those who need it. Or you can organize others to donate as much as they would like to your cause of choice.

"Single men are also significantly more likely to back Democrats than Republicans, but that is largely a function of their age, because they are largely younger. Unmarried women, however, are more evenly spread across all age groups and consistently lean Democratic"

So, apparently the married women are polygamous heads of household with multiple husbands? Or do men just die a lot younger to avoid having to hook up with these vapid women?

It really amuses me that these single women are portrayed as "independent" strong women, when in fact they are the opposite. Instead of a husband, they are relying on the government and being dependent on it for their "safety net". The real difference is that in the case of a husband, she/they rely on their own money, while in the case of the government, they are relying on someone else´s money through taxes.

The Peter Pan syndrome doesn´t just apply to a lot of young men. Sara is a product of media brainwashing and the new ´culture.´ On the other hand the last campaign by Republicans was beyond belief. I can´t believe there isn´t some kind of organized response to the up is down DNC message, but I don´t think I´ll ever see an effective challenge from the RNC. I don´t care if my neighbor smokes weed, or marries his gay lover, or wants to burn an American Flag, or supports a woman´s right to have an abortion. I care only that he let me live my life without demanding that I fork over 1/2 my income to the Feds. Why are so many in the GOP willing to live in a Socialist America, as long as behavior is tightly controlled by the government?

WASHINGTON- Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel says he wants U.S. military law changed so senior commanders can´t overturn courts-martial verdicts in major crimes such as rape. Hagel said the Pentagon´s top lawyers would prepare legislation for Congress that would strip commanders´ power to toss out convictions, "except for certain minor offenses that would not ordinarily warrant trial by court-martial." Convicted defendants still would be able to appeal their cases. But in a move berated by advocacy groups for military sexual-assault victims, Hagel also said he would recommend commanders retain the power to alter courts-martial sentences,

If presidential politics ever involved time travel, President Obama might be in a little trouble. If an election between Ronald Reagan and Barack Obama were held today, 58% would vote for Reagan over Obama, according to a survey of 1,000 Americans age 18 and older conducted by Kelton Research for the National Geographic Channel. Though when the field is narrowed to people ages 18-34 -- those either too young to have known Reagan as president or too young to remember much -- the gap shrinks to 51% in favor of Reagan.

HARTFORD, Conn. -- With time running out on the chance to pass gun control legislation, President Barack Obama on Monday warned Congress not to use delaying tactics against tighter regulations and told families of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting victims that he´s "determined as ever" to honor their children with tougher laws. Obama´s gun control proposals have run into resistance on Capitol Hill, leaving their fate in doubt. Efforts by Senate Democrats to reach compromise with Republicans over expanding required federal background checks have yet to yield an agreement, and conservatives were promising to try

Beginning a week of high pressure on gun control, the White House on Monday accused some Republican senators of cowardice for planning to filibuster gun legislation without allowing the full Senate to vote on President Obama’s initiatives. “If they oppose this legislation, have the courage to say so on the floor and vote no,” said White House press secretary Jay Carney. “Don’t block it. Don’t hide behind a procedural action to prevent a vote. That’s the wrong thing to do, and that’s how the president clearly feels.”

Chelsea Clinton has raised her profile in the last few days, which sparked the inevitable question about the former first daughter´s future: Will she ever be like Mom and Dad and run for office? Clinton, 33, essentially said "maybe" in an interview that aired Monday on NBC´s Today show. "Right now I´m grateful to live in a city, a state and a country where I strongly support my mayor, my governor, my president and my senators and my representative," said Clinton, whose father, Bill, was president from 1993-2001 and her mother, Hillary

More than 700 Special Operations veterans are urging members of Congress to back a select committee to investigate last year’s Benghazi terrorist attack, according to a letter first obtained by Fox News. The letter from the group, “Special Operations Speaks,” supports the appointment of a special committee tasked with the single mission of investigating the attack that left Ambassador Christopher Stevens and three other Americans dead, and shut down the CIA operation in an annex of the Benghazi consulate, in the Sept. 11, 2012 attack. “Congress must show some leadership and provide answers to the public

President Barack Obama is bringing 11 relatives of those killed in the shooting at Connecticut´s Sandy Hook Elementary School to Washington on Air Force One on Monday so they can personally encourage senators to back gun legislation that faces tough opposition. A nonprofit organization that works with the families, Sandy Hook Promise, said that after Obama´s speech on gun control in Hartford, he is flying with relatives of seven children and one staffer killed during December´s massacre at the school. There was growing buzz over the weekend that a bipartisan agreement on gun control — a deal that would expand background checks — could hit the floor as early as this week. However, any deal could be derailed by the looming threat of a Republican filibuster involving Texas Sen. Ted Cruz. With Cruz standing proudly in the way of any gun legislation, Democrats are trying to make him pay a political price — and even a couple of high-profile Republicans are questioning his tactics.

Amid all of the very real threats of war and stuff from North Korea, you´d think American intelligence officers want as much video footage of the enemy as possible. Well, here is one video featuring North Korean exercises and Kim Jong-Un holding a gun, and we´ll say this: they certainly get points for presentation. Remember the clap-happy report from Dennis Rodman´s diplomatic basketball vacation? This video comes courtesy of the same Youtube channel that gave us that Rodman video. The case of a same-sex Connecticut couple accused of repeatedly raping and abusing two of their nine adopted boys is headed for trial. Married couple George Harasz and Douglas Wirth of Glastonbury were supposed to be sentenced Friday in Hartford Superior Court under a plea deal, but instead withdrew from their agreement with prosecutors. The men had already pleaded no contest in January to one felony count each of risk of injury to a minor — a reduction from even more serious charges related to sexual assault....
