President Barack Obama has chosen Sen. John Kerry of Massachusetts to be the next secretary of state, a source has told Sun-Times columnist Michael Sneed. His replacement as head of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee will be Sen. Robert Menendez of New Jersey, the Sneed source said.
Hopefully, we will get to see his war records. But if he is confirmed, it could set our foreign relations back worse than what Shrill and Obomination have done so far. His irrogance is enough to turn even our best ally against us.
If true, this Christmas will be as we mostly expect. And, in later, happier (I hope) years, we shall remember:
It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair, we had everything before us, we had nothing before us, we were all going direct to heaven, we were all going direct the other way. . . .
Kerry. Well, that puts the star on the Christmas tree, doesn´t it? /s
They just keep regurgitating the old white men. Uuuhhhh, Jon, why the long face? But he does have nice hair. Now we can remember Terayza and her vodka soaked raisins. Oh, happy day. BTW, I did read the raisins are helpful for arthritis. I´m not kidding. hic!
Meanwhile, I am trying to get through my second Christmas without my dear spouse, who died from the effects of Agent Orange. He served honorably in Viet Nam and a total of 22 years in the USN and I STILL am waiting for the VA to decide on his claim, and reimburse me for his final expenses. I hate John Kerry.
doesn´t matter. The important decisions surrounding foreign policy promulgation reside with Valerie Jarrett. And anything jon cary tried to do on his own will be undercut by all those special envoys president zero sent to various parts of the world. This represents nothing more than a sh*tty icing applied to a filthy presidential cake.
So is Massachusetts going to go back to letting the Governor pick the replacement for Senator (since the Governor is a Democrat) or will they stay with a special election (which they implemented when Romney was Governor)?
Will Kerry now be able to dock his New Zealand built yacht at a Potomac River location? The $7 million sloop is kept in Rhode Island in order to avoid the Massachusett sales & use taxes he favors.
Will Kerry ask the WH to return the medals that he tossed over its fence to protest fictitious war atrocities?
Will Kerry be for Syrian intervention before he´s against it?
Will Senator Menendez´s illegal alien staffer be made Assistant Secretary of State for Sexual Predators Living Here Illegally? Would seem as logical as making Kerry the international representative of the US.
Boy it sure tells you alot about Bambi with the choices he makes for his "Cabinet". I can´t think of one person who I would trust to do what is best for this country. John Kerry...are you kidding me? The best he can do. And I´m sure we´ll hear John McCain telling us over and over how wonderful he is and what a great friend! Yep...I´d say that´s a great deal of what is wrong with the Congress. Republicans want to be friends and dems think the Republicans are stupid.
John F. Kerry as Secretary of State?...An insult to our nation, The Free World and the memory of the 58,272 departed souls whose names are inscribed on The Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C.
He´s nothing but a joke - it won´t take other nations but a day or two to get him figured out if they haven´t yet done so- and just like the impostor in chief, Teresa´s little boy is already a huge embarrassment to ths nation.
O great, from one liar to an even bigger one. Kerry was a traitor who viciously slandered all of us who served our country in ´Nam. And, while still on active duty, he sent himself to Paris to confer with envoys from Hanoi. He wrote his own citations, proclaiming himself a ´hero´ and idiots in the Navy, years later, went along with the lie. I guess as the left and Democrats in general see it, Kerry is an ´excellent´ representative of the current administration. He is an early-adopter of the ´blame America first´ doctrine. He is scum!
Now isn´t that just a peachy idea - John Kerry as Secretary of State? I hope the Swiftboaters (God bless them) speak out again. They are very courageous and I believe everything they´ve said regarding John Kerry and his "service" to this nation.
President Obama probably sees Kerry´s controversial and critical remarks about our military as a ´resume enhancement´. Aren´t they more or less two of a kind?
I´m sure it was the plan all along and he´ll walk through the confirmation but I wish there was a republican that would use the opportunity to take a few jabs at him.Such as " Senator, as acting sos would you consider a soldier, upon returning from a war zone, that proceeds to unilaterally meet and discuss our differences with the enemy to be doing a good thing, committing treason, or just acting like a pompous ass.
Actually -- Kerry´s ego is only surpassed by the "Won" himself -- it should make some interesting Barry/Kerry shuck and jive at the highest levels. We can be thankful that he was not chosen to be Sec. of Def. We can, however, expect the French-speaking JFK to cozy up to socialist France. Maybe he´ll ge to swim in the Seine wearing his sexy wetsuit, as long as his rice-bullet wounds aren´t showing. On a side note, I hear that Jane Fonda will be the guest of honor at the swearing-in reception and Mike Dukakis will be arriving in his personal tank.
He needs to fully open his Naval records, which he specifically DID NOT do during the 04 campaign. He is still totally unfit for command, and this position is a command position. This liar and cheat does not deserve this position, and I hope our Republican Senators demand the answers he did not disclose, and will resist. But of course, the Senate is controlled by the Dems, but isn´t there a hold possibility by any member of the Senate?
Ask him if he has any concerns about the retaking of his oath to defend the Constitution of the United States, and protect us from enemies foreign and domestic. Ask him what are some areas where a Secretary of State is expected to protect the US. Ask him who are, in his opinion, enemies of the United States. Finally, ask him if he would carry out any policy that he thought would not be in the economic or defense interest of the United States.
I´m hoping for another special election in MA where maybe Brown can sneak back in, but I read these posts that the governor picks a replacement. Which one is it? Why was there a special election after Kennedy died and not now?
This was a ´two-fer´ for the obama regime. Throw Rice´s name out knowing she was never being considered, and when Republicans objected, accuse them of continuing their ´war on women´. Then appointing the man he wanted in the first place. If McCain defends kerry and attacks those who criticize his appointment we will know for sure this was the plan and McCain was in on this scheme.
Obama´s criteria for any position in government...Who will be the most inept person I can pick to do the job. After all, that is how he got his job. The House and the Republican Senators aught to turn this down period.
At least he will not be in the Pentagon where he would certainly attempt to sabotage the Dept. of Defense. If Obama had nominated him for the Defense Secretary job, we certainly would have heard from the Swift Boat Veterans.
OBAMA and LURCH---two lifelong liars of the flaming lefty liberal party kissed on the rump by the ass-press liars every time they open their mouths of lies.See a pattern here? Like Hillary PIAPS Clinton lies about her so called "concussion"...I think ALL lefties suffer from concussions! Swift-boat that fool!
Perfect! Who better to orchestrate the destruction of the finest military in the world. Plus, he´ll be super willing to have our troops report to The Muslim Brotherhood, as they continue expanding the Islamo-Fascist invasions !
Susan Patton, the Princeton alumna who became famous for her letter urging Ivy League women to use their college years to find a mate, has been denounced as a traitor to feminism, to coeducation, to the university ideal. But really she’s something much more interesting: a traitor to her class. Her betrayal consists of being gauche enough to acknowledge publicly a truth that everyone who’s come up through Ivy League culture knows intuitively —
A New York hedge fund manager allegedly swindles $12 million from a prominent Baltimore family. An Indiana couple is accused of bilking hundreds of customers by charging for free trials of cosmetic products. A financial manager in Texas promises 23-percent returns but absconds with $33.5 million of his investors’ money in a classic Ponzi scheme. All three cases have one thing in common: money that ended up in offshore accounts and trusts set up in tax havens around the world.
Former News Corp president Peter Chernin has bid around $500 million for Hulu, the online video streaming service he helped create in 2007, according to two sources with knowledge of Hulu´s sale process. The website, jointly controlled by News Corp and Walt Disney Co, reached out to potential buyers in March after initially contemplating a deal in which one would buy out the other. It is not clear whether that transaction is still being contemplated.
After lengthy investigations, the Pentagon has determined that three Army generals committed misconduct in separate incidents, adding to an unusually long list of senior military commanders who have been censured over the past year.On Friday, defense officials confirmed that Army Maj. Gen. Ralph O. Baker, the commander of a strategic counterterrorism force on the Horn of Africa, was fired March 28 on charges of sexual misconduct. Two officials familiar with the case said Baker was investigated for allegedly groping a female civilian employee after he had been drinking.
The Obama administration appeared eager Thursday to downplay the North Korean military’s latest threat that it has the final authority to carry out “cutting-edge, smaller, lighter and diversified” nuclear strikes on the United States.“This is just the latest in a long line of aggressive statements,” (Snip)the recent tension between Washington and Pyongyang “does not need to get hotter.”The remarks were the first public reaction from the Obama administration since Wednesday’s claim by the North Korean military that the “moment of explosion is approaching fast” with the possibility of war breaking out “today or tomorrow.”
President Obama´s biggest gaffe yesterday when speaking of California Attorney General Kamala Harris was not in flirtatiously complimenting her as "the best-looking attorney general," but in introducing an observation from the system of beauty into a forum that was about the system of power. What´s that, you say? Irin Carmon does a great job in Salon in laying out the bounds of propriety for when it´s appropriate to talk about a woman´s looks as a general matter. But I´ve long felt we lack a solid theoretical underpinning for easily discussing these issues, and why precisely it is that
Political scientist Charles Murray has never backed away from controversy, but usually his opponents have been liberals. Friday, however, he managed to upset conservatives at the annual conference known as CPAC, where thousands of bewildered Republicans gathered to figure out the way forward after their party’s 2012 electoral defeat. Murray ditched his prepared remarks on “America Coming Apart” in favor of an impromptu admonition to fellow conservatives to accept the legalization of both gay marriage and abortion.
VATICAN CITY—It took Jorge Mario Bergoglio four minutes to convince fellow cardinals he was their leader. Speaking in the Paul VI grand hall of the Vatican, the Argentine cardinal warned the Catholic Church against focusing too much on matters close to home—advice that came against the backdrop of a papacy that had been consumed by infighting among Vatican officials, a dwindling flock in Europe and secular trends in the West. The 76-year-old Father Jorge, as he is known back home, said Roman Catholicism needed to shift its focus outward, to the world beyond Rome—rather than being "self-referential," he said.
When President Obama gets to Jerusalem next week, one of the signals to listen for is an indication of what country he thinks he’s in. Normally this is clear when the President — any president — goes to the capital of a foreign country. He’s in whatever country the capital is capital of. But Mr. Obama has been refusing to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. Not only that, but he has been refusing to admit that Jerusalem is even in Israel.
Approaching his first presidential trip to Israel, President Obama offered a fresh and foolish — if not feckless — assessment of the Iranian nuclear threat. "Right now, we think it would take over a year or so for Iran to actually deliver a nuclear weapon, but obviously we don’t want to cut it too close,” the President told an Israeli television interviewer, in the process cutting Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu off at the knees and giving the mullahs breathing room to keep enriching uranium.
I hope I´m not too late to the fight.Last week, freshman Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) held an old-fashioned filibuster against the nomination of John Brennan to head the CIA. Paul´s stated reason for taking to the floor and talking for 13 hours was that the Obama administration wouldn´t give him a straight answer on the question of whether the president can unilaterally order the killing of American citizens on American soil with "lethal force, such as a drone strike … and without trial."
An unfortunate story on CBS New York Thursday carried this headline: "Officials: 80 Percent Of Recent NYC High School Graduates Cannot Read." It´s a shocker, but it´s also untrue. And to make things worse, the story that followed was riddled with typos. According to the New York Post, which reported the same story earlier on Thursday, "79.3 percent of city public-school grads who went to CUNY’s six two-year colleges arrived without having mastered the basics" of reading, writing, and math, and had to take non-credit remedial classes to catch up.
President Obama announces today that he supports a “fix” for Obamacare that would allow some Americans to keep the healthcare plans they already had for an additional year. That was already built into the Affordable Care Act aka Obamacare law. It’s not an actual change to anything, it’s just an attempt to get out ahead of the bills that Republican Fred Upton and Democrat Mary Landrieu are sponsoring in the House and Senate that would legislatively “fix” Obamacare. It’s an exercise in blame-shifting, and an abdication of leadership. As news of the plan leaked, skepticism spread.(Snip for tweets)Barack Obama’s credibility
To paraphrase Oscar Wilde, you’d have to have a heart of stone not to laugh at the unraveling of Obamacare. First, the obligatory caveats. It is no laughing matter that millions of Americans’ lives have been thrown into anxious chaos as they lose their health insurance, their doctors, their money, or all three. Nor is it particularly amusing to think of the incredible waste of time and tax dollars that has gone into Obamacare’s construction. And the still-unfolding violence that this misbegotten legislation will visit on the economy and our liberties is not funny either. This very magazine has been downright
In his 2007 biography of Barack Obama, Obama: From Promise to Power, Chicago Tribune reporter David Mendell described the exchange he had with then-Illinois state Sen. Barack Obama just minutes before he delivered the keynote address at the 2004 Democratic National Convention in Boston: After Obama and I slipped through a security checkpoint and he momentarily broke free from the entourage, I sidled up to him and told him that he seemed to be impressing many people of influence in this rarefied atmosphere. Obama, his gaze fixed directly ahead, never broke his stride. “I´m LeBron, baby,” he replied, referring to LeBron
Oprah Winfrey, one of the most powerful women in the world, declared she would not be stripping off her lingerie to get ‘buck naked’ on screen. The billionaire TV tsarina and occasional actress was speaking to me about her role in director Lee Daniels’s movie The Butler, in which she plays Gloria, wife of a White House butler played by Forest Whitaker. Gloria becomes bored with her middle-class life while her husband’s off looking after ‘that other family in the White House’. Oprah said that after a while Gloria starts to drink, and fools around with a neighbour, played by
On Wednesday, Senator Mark Udall (D-CO) introduced a bill in the Senate that would allow Americans to keep their health insurance plans for a limit of two years. “I have repeatedly said that the Affordable Care Act isn’t perfect,” Udall said, “and it will need to be improved as it is implemented.” Udall already wants to push off the open enrollment deadline on the Obamacare health exchanges until the end of May. But Udall’s plan isn’t the only one in the offing. Senator Mary Landrieu (D-LA) has introduced the “Keeping the Affordable Care Act Promise Act,” co-sponsored by Sens. Dianne
In a recent interview with BBC News, Oprah Winfrey said that President Obama is disrespected because he is an African-American. "There’s a level of disrespect for the office that occurs. And that occurs in some cases and maybe even many cases because he’s African-American," Winfrey said. "There’s no question about that, and it’s the kind of thing nobody ever says but everybody’s thinking it." Speaking with the BBC´s Will Gompertz in the UK to promote "The Butler," Winfrey also spoke to the global issue of racism. "It´s gotten better. Are there still places where people are terrorized because of the color of their
“Even if it takes a change to the law, the president should honor the commitment the federal government made to those people and let them keep what they got.” — Bill Clinton, Nov. 12 So the former president asserts that the current president continues to dishonor his “you like your plan, you can keep your plan” pledge. And calls for the Affordable Care Act to be changed, despite furious White House resistance to the very idea. Coming from the dean of the Democratic Party, this one line marked the breaching of the dam. It legitimized the brewing rebellion of panicked
On Thursday, President Obama conducted the “Springtime for Hitler” of press conferences. He came out at noon and proceeded to blather his way through an hour of self-justifications and evasions and apologies and complaints. And as he went on, you could almost see America reacting as the audience in “The Producers” did to the happy-talk number about Adolf romping at his retreat in Berchtesgaden — with gaped-mouth astonishment. First, he said he had not been “informed directly that the Web site would not be working.” What on earth does that mean? Was he somehow informed indirectly? In an affronted tone, the president
Desperate times call for desperate measures, so on Thursday one desperate President, Barack Obama, attempted to sell the idea that he had found a way to keep his Obamacare pledge: “If you like your insurance plan, you can keep it.” This exuberantly delivered and oft-repeated sales pitch for the program that has dominated his presidency “ended up not being accurate,” as Obama mincingly put it. He had no choice — not when health insurers complying with his regulations have canceled policies for millions of Americans. Not when those newly uninsured cannot buy coverage using Obama’s botched website. Not when congressional Democrats are panicking
The current troubles of the Obama presidency can be read back into its beginnings. Rule by personal charisma has met its proper fate. The spell has been broken, and the magician stands exposed. We need no pollsters to tell us of the loss of faith in Mr. Obama´s policies—and, more significantly, in the man himself. Charisma is like that. Crowds come together and they project their needs onto an imagined redeemer. The redeemer leaves the crowd to its imagination: For as long as the charismatic moment lasts—a year, an era—the redeemer is above and beyond judgment. He glides through crises,
Something is seriously wrong with conservatism. Since Ronald Reagan’s last year in office, Republicans have only twice won a majority of votes cast for president—both times with a George Bush atop the ticket. And neither Bush was a conservative. For 25 years, something has prevented conservatives from winning the White House and prevented the Republicans who do win from governing as conservatives. What could it be? The Tea Party has an answer: RINOs—liberal Republicans in Name Only—have sabotaged the right, most recently in October when they collaborated with Democrats to raise the debt ceiling and end the government shutdown. Once RINOs are
President Obama’s former spiritual advisor Joshua DuBois joined The O’Reilly Factor to talk about his new book, “The President´s Devotional: Daily Readings That Inspired Obama.” He told Bill O’Reilly, “The president’s a committed Christian and his faith is a really important part of his life. Every single morning for the last six years he’s woken up and read these devotionals to try grow closer to God and closer to his neighbors as well.” DuBois recalled going with the president to visit Reverend Billy Graham. “He doesn’t wear this stuff on his sleeve. That’s not the kind guy he is, but he
