Republicans Need to Talk
Wall Street Journal, by Peggy Noonan

Original Article

Posted By:JoniTx, 12/14/2012 9:59:27 AM

Viewed a certain way, the 2012 election can be seen as a gift to Republicans wrapped in ugly paper. The wrapping looked like a hostage note with a message scrawled in crayon: "We hate you." But inside was a gift, and the gift was time. The party was given the opportunity, when it is still strong, to hold the kind of fresh, open-the-windows debate it would have been forced to have in 2016 anyway, and in less favorable conditions. If Mitt Romney had won this year he would have had a very tough presidency, with the left revived and

One too often has to wade through Noonan´s critiques of a speech to find out what her point is. She bogs down into whose phrasing was bad and whose wording was muddy. The implication is that a Peggy Noonan could have written a better speech. She´s hammered us with it so frequently that it´s getting tiresome to see if, this time, she can get beyond sniping at the speechwriter to analyze the content.

Dear, sweet Margaret means well.

Sadly, a great deal of effort is expended to make sure that Conservatives seldom get near the microphone.

As the Right has become more moderate and more willing to be flexible the left has become more strident and headstrong.

The defenders of truth and justice and real fairness are sorely disadvantaged when playing against Communist Terrorists who play very well, very dirty and play for keeps.

Surprise !

The nice people lose again.

Meanwhile, while we await 2016, we will grow the debt, taxes, unemployment, the government and entitlement spending. At the same time, we will reduce military capability, standard of living, freedom and available medical care.

That´s great Peggy. We will be so happy for this gift!

Politicians now know STUFF win elections. Further, Michelle will coast to victory in 2016 after she successfully targets profiteers as the cause of the Depression just as the Germans blamed the Jews.

Sorry, Peggy. The Pubs had their opportunity in 2012 - and blew it.

They need a whole lot more than talk. They need to clean up internal corruption. Pat Caddell nailed it on the "Political Insiders" 12/10/12 foxnews.com webcast http://video.foxnews.com/v/2026524793001/political-insiders-121012/ That show was an eye-opener for me, and explained a lot of what went wrong.

This kind of corruption is not unique to the GOP - it is a DC problem, but is relevant when pondering the 2012 defeat.

Republicans lost the "ground game". Zippy and his cadre of leftist activists used very sophisticated polling and data mining tools to determine exactly how many more votes they needed in each swing state as the election approached and where they could get them. And they had the resources and organization needed to contact these people and get the to vote. More traditional "Get Out Vote" techniques cannot beat the new high tech model. Unless and until the Republicans develop a similar model they will never win another election. But are they smart enough to realize this?

Retail sales unexpectedly fall in March

WASHINGTON- Retail sales contracted in March for the second time in three months, a sign the American economy may have stumbled at the end of the first quarter. Retail sales fell 0.4 percent during the month, the Commerce Department said on Friday. That was below analysts´ expectations that sales would be flat. Readings for retail sales have been volatile so far this year, making it difficult to know whether the weakness in March was due to a tax hike that went into effect at the start of the year or to temporary factors related to the weather.

Senate Democrats are hesitating to honor the former prime minister of Great Britain who, along with President Reagan and Pope John Paul II, tackled communism. This is particularly galling in light of the fact that 16 Republicans crossed the aisle to vote for cloture on the Democrats´ gun control bill, today. Heritage Action reports: A Senate resolution to honor Lady Thatcher was supposed to pass last night. However, per well placed sources on the Hill, Democrats have a hold on the resolution. More than 3,300 crosses, Stars of David and Islamic symbols were installed on the National Mall Thursday as peace activists created a mock cemetery to honor victims of gun violence. Organizers said the number of markers was chosen to honor the victims of gun violence who have died since the mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn. At 11:30 a.m., religious leaders from across the country -- including some from Newtown -- began a 24-hour vigil among the grave markers, a protest aimed at lawmakers as they began to vote on a set of new gun restrictions.

As a native New Yorker, I´ve seen its middle class population decline over the years due to its neglect of blue collar families which is ironic since this is a Democrat city. With the recent arrests of several local politicians for corruption perhaps New Yorkers will pay more attention to those they put in office. Given their past indifference in local elections this is highly unlikely.
