If Barack and Michelle Obama feel comfortable allowing Bill Ayers and Bernardine Dohrn to babysit their children, that is their problem. The question is, would you allow them to babysit yours? Let´s take that a step farther: would you let them raise your children? Would you give them exclusive supervision over the majority of your children´s daylight hours up to age eighteen, primary control of your children´s academic curriculum and teaching methodology, and authority to arrange the broad social and moral framework within which your children will be educated? No? Then why do you accept modern public education?
I don´t accept it! That´s why we´re pulling my 14 year old grandson out of public school. I can´t afford private school, so we´re going to home school starting in the new year. Yesterday he came home and started telling me about how Andrew Jackson was responsible for policies of removal of native American Indian tribes. (I guess I have to study Andrew Jackson now.) I asked him if they ever learn about good things our founders did...his answer..."sometimes, but I just like telling you about the bad stuff to see your reaction." Smart kid! This is going to be interesting. I hope I still have the stamina for it!
In my state, the government spends about $13,000 per year per student on secondary school education (wonder why they call it secondary school? but that is another question for another day). Most private schools can give a excellent education for about $10,000 to $12,000 per year. Yes, there are the designer schools that charge $30 to $40k but they are just snobs. Since the state is already collecting the taxes, why not give everyone and I mean everyone a voucher for $10,000 and let them educate their children per their choice. I know, this makes way too much sense.
Bravo #1! You will probably find yourself learning stuff along with your grandson. And at age 14, he will get the hands on guidence that he really needs as a teen to steer him through some troubled waters. You are giving him an unimaginably wonderful gift by doing this.
History: 100 years ago if you had a BA you were a Greek scholar or a Latin Scholar [or both]. 50 Years ago High School diplomas were in Latin and sadly half could not read their diploma. Today High School diplomas are in English and sadly half can not read their diploma.
He´s right about the bottom feeders. The worst students go into education and from there into tenure track jobs. We have a third grade teacher in our town who tells the children that she hates reading. She won´t assign reading to them.
If I had kids today, I would home school them or try a catholic school. Anything but public education.
#1, if your name implies your location -- I´m in NJ too. Thanks goodness, our left wing state hasn´t yet clamped down on homeschooling.
Twelve years ago I also pulled my youngest out of public school. I had sent my older kids to "good" public schools ... it took me some years, and several shocking experiences, to realize how bad even "good" public schools had become.
So we homeschooled between 6th and 9th grade -- it worked great (and it was a great experience for me to teach, too!). Starting with 10th grade, we enrolled son in an online high school. That worked well too.
Of all our children, the son who was homeschooled is the one who still loves learning; and the one who truly appreciates his country, and its history, the most.
OK, I get it. This is the choir. 99.9% of those who read this, here, agree. So what do we do about it? Let’s stop moaning and actually do something. Big or small, let’s start somewhere.
Is there a blog or website or something where we can meet and start doing some little thing about this horrible situation? If there is not something like this, can one of us start it? I would if I could and I can’t. Post ideas here.
The poor, pathetic Democrats trying to defend Obamacare have adopted the talking point that there is "pent-up demand" for "affordable" (i.e., subsidized by other people) health care insurance. The citrizens of the Garden State have just flipped the bird on this argument. (snip) fifty thousand people signed up online for New Jersey´s gambling sites in the first week. That compares with 741 who signed up for Obamacare during all of October. Yes, the Obamacare website has been plagued with problems, but the disparity between the two programs is still eye-popping
Barry promised a zillion times on camera that Americans under ObamaCare would be able to keep their health care insurance if they liked it, that they would be able to keep the same doctors, and so on. Were these lies? (snip)Next November, Republican political ads from coast to coast should say something like this: "The leaders of the Democratic Party are doing the very best they can. That is the problem our nation faces today: that Democrat leaders are doing the best that they can. We cannot expect them to fix the problems they have created or the other problems
Oops! First it was ´if you like your insurance you can keep your insurance.´ Then it was ´if you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor.´ Now, after the president´s spokes-prevaricators said that Barack Obama had never met his father´s half-brother Omar Onyango Obama, affectionately referred to by many as Uncle Omar, we come to find out that that´s another lie. Yet in a way it´s understandable that Barack Obama would want to place distance between himself and his colorful Kenyan family, some of whom have lived America illegally for 50 years, still mooch off of welfare, and in Omar
An entry titled "Forget About the Price Tag" has won the HHS video contest for promoting Obamacare. (snip)McDonald received the $2,000 grand prize and a $3,000 prize for having the top song. McDonald, a resident of Chicago, signed up for Cook County´s Medicaid program. She has type 1 diabetes. Did someone tell the state of IL that the $5,000 she won in the contest might make her inelgible for Medicaid? The huge irony is that she won by posting a video urging her fellow youth not to worry about the price tag, when she herself is getting her insurance paid for by
In his first term, Obama managed to get his paws on health care, banking, energy, student loans, the auto business, and more. Now he has his sights set on your 401(k). The left has had its eye on retirement savings for years, but so far takeover attempts have been rebuffed. (snip)Once it is established that mutual funds pose a risk to financial stability, government will likely proceed on its merry way, with thousands of pages of regulations bringing those funds, and the savings they manage, under the thumb of government. It is only a short step from regulation to appropriation,
In Michael Agar´s book entitled Language Shock: Understanding the Culture of Conversation, he asks "[h]ow do you speak and act a lie at the same time?" Agar maintains that there are three characteristics of an act that tell ... whether a lie occurred or not: I. The sentence is false; 2. The person knows it´s false; 3. The person intends to deceive. A lie isn´t just what´s in the discourse; it´s also what´s in the circumstances of the act of speaking, like the knowledge and intentions of the speaker. Furthermore, "the thing that most people would say makes a lie
Organizing for Action (OFA), which lives at the web address barackobama.com because it is an outgrowth of the Obama presidential campaigns, is shamelessly seeking to exploit the deaths of school children at the hands of a maniac in Newtown, CT. I am beyond words. How low can you go?
Global warming hysterics at the BBC warned us in 2007 that by summer 2013, the Arctic would be ice-free. As with so many other doomsday predictions by warmists, the results turn out to be quite the opposite. The UK Daily Mail reports: A chilly Arctic summer has left 533,000 more square miles of ocean covered with ice than at the same time last year - an increase of 29 per cent. (snip) The Northwest Passage from the Atlantic to the Pacific has remained blocked by pack-ice all year. More than 20 yachts that had planned to sail it have been left
Barack Obama is a man with only one core conviction. He has, as the basic foundation of his otherwise disorganized and uncertain belief system, the irrefutable tenet that the United States, because of its European roots, has been the epitome of oppression and arrogance throughout its history. Therefore, he is able to rationalize the need to say or do anything as the transformation of American society and the end of the pre-eminent status of the United States are his sole objectives. He has, thus, adopted a pre-meditated schizophrenic personality wherein he comports himself as an apologist and appeaser on the
Liberal media bon pensants are in a huff over remarks delivered by London´s Mayor Boris Johnson suggesting that IQ and effort have something to do with income. (snip) Britain´s Guardian, which regards itself as the leading organ of the left wing intelligentsia, busied itself ginning up an editorial pretending that Johnson is probably a racist: [Johnson used] a bizarre metaphor - "The harder you shake the pack, the easier it will be for some cornflakes to get to the top" - which was likely designed to confuse with colour, and make sure that this ambitious politician didn´t say too much.
The University of Colorado at Boulder is known for being one of the most politically correct campuses in the United States, particularly when it comes to Native American cultures. (snip) I think it is absolutely fine to name the dorms after the chiefs. My problem is with the pretensions of fighting "cultural chauvinism" and "primitivization." The plain fact is that the Araphao or Hinono´ei Language was a preliterate language, unlike French. Any rendering of the language into Roman letters should qualify as "cultural chauvinism." There is no way at all to put into a foreign system of writing a preliterate
In June 2013, Judge Beryl Howell of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia dismissed the Pacific Legal Foundation (PLF)´s case that ObamaCare violates the Constitution´s Origination Clause. This clause reads, "All bills for raising revenue shall originate in the House of Representatives; but the Senate may propose or concur with amendments as on other Bills." (snip)Judge Howell was likely wrong to have dismissed PLF´s lawsuit against ObamaCare for, among other reasons, not violating the Origination Clause´s second half.
I have never been much of a conspiracy theorist. For me it was always Oswald by himself from the Texas School Book Depository and nothing in the intervening fifty years has disabused me of this notion. For the most part, I’m an Occam’s Razor kind of guy — the most obvious explanation is likely to be true. (Snip) To put it bluntly, Occam’s Razor has moved. Things that were once possibilities now seem almost certainties to me. Principal among those is that Obama’s academic records are perpetually unavailable for a reason — and that reason is most likely that they reveal
One of President Obama´s chief political assets has been his ability to excite young people like almost no politician in history. But the days of America´s youth fawning over the president are over. A new Harvard University Institute of Politics poll released Wednesday confirms what other surveys have shown in recent months: Millennials have soured on Obama so much this year that their opinion of him largely mirrors the American public´s. Even though Obama does not ever have to face another election, he should be worried about the findings for a couple of reasons, which we will dive into momentarily.
Last summer on his $100 million family tour of Africa, Barack Obama hoped for a priceless photo op with Nelson Mandela, the ailing freedom pioneer who went from prison cell to the presidency of South Africa. Mandela´s family suggested that wouldn’t happen. So, the Obamas did a photo op in Mandela´s former prison cell. Which Obama’s White House quickly tweeted upon word of the icon´s passing at 95. [Skip] But Obama was also caught staring at television coverage of Mandela’s passing, which became Obama’s Photo of the Day.
Hardly a week goes by without Hillary Clinton receiving another award. Last month she was named a “Global Champion” by the International Medical Corps, received the American Patriot Award at the National Defense University Foundation and the Hermandad Award from the Mexican American Leadership Initiative. [Snip] At this rate, if a bunch of elderly left-wing Swedes toss her the Nobel Peace Prize early on, the way they did to Obama, it will barely rate mention among all the other glittering trophies that have been bestowed on a woman whose only actual accomplishment was being married to a crooked governor with
A stunning new study unveiled on Fox News´ Hannity finds that President Barack Obama’s White House calendar records just one face-to-face meeting between Obama and his Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Kathleen Sebelius in the more than three-and-a-half years leading up to the disastrous Obamacare launch. The startling statistic comes from a new Government Accountability Institute (GAI) analysis of Obama’s own official White House calendar, as well as the Politico presidential calendar, and raises new questions about Obama’s executive leadership and management throughout the implementation of his singular legislative achievement. More alarming still, the president’s schedule lists 277 private
[Video] President Obama on Wednesday declared that addressing income inequality would be the focus of “all” of the White House’s efforts “for the rest of my presidency.” In a sweeping address that touched on raising the minimum wage, investing in infrastructure and ending tax breaks for the wealthy, Obama warned that the American economy has become “profoundly unequal,” declaring economic mobility the “challenge of our time.” “The combined trends of increasing inequality and decreasing mobility pose a fundamental threat to the American dream, our way of life, and what we stand for around the globe,” he said in an hour-long
Speaker John Boehner said his party should support gay Republican congressional candidates and urged his colleagues to “be a little more sensitive” when running against women. “Some of our members just aren’t as sensitive as they ought to be,” Boehner said. When asked if he thinks his party should support gay candidates, Boehner simply said: “I do.”
Amid an array of “knock-out” attacks against a number of Jews in Brooklyn’s Crown Heights neighborhood, a city councilwoman pointed to the success of the Jewish community as triggering the aggression. Councilwoman-elect Laurie Cumbo emphasized that while she “admire[s] the Jewish community immensely” for its work ethic, black teens may see it differently. “While I personally regard this level of tenacity, I also recognize that for others, the accomplishments of the Jewish community triggers feelings of resentment, and a sense that Jewish success is not also their success,” Cumbo, who was recently elected, wrote in a letter. Chief among the issues
On Tuesday, The Boston Globe reported that Onyango “Omar” Obama, uncle to President Obama, says that his famous nephew stayed with him while a student at Harvard Law School in the 80s, in contradiction to The White House’s contention that the two had never met. At Thursday’s White House daily briefing, Press Secretary Jay Carney confirmed that the President had, in fact, briefly stayed with “his father’s half-brother,” as Carney described Omar Obama, and that no one had actually asked the President about it when the White House initially commented. The 69 year-old Omar Obama has been facing deportation back
America is facing a wave of strikes by its fast-food workers on Thursday a day after Barack Obama warned that inequality in the USA had soared to the point that it now posed "a fundamental threat to the American dream". Low-paid workers in McDonalds, Kentucky Fried Chicken and other fast-food outlets in 100 cities across America were due to start rolling strikes to protest at the low level of America´s $7.25 (£4.45) federal minimum wage. The strikes are the latest part of a mushrooming publicity campaign for higher wages among those working so-called "McJobs", with fast-food restaurants seen as a
The world premiere of the “Ballad for Trayvon Martin for Orchestra and Jazz Quartet” is set for tonight. Princeton University’s director of its jazz-studies program composed the work in honor of the Florida teen. Anthony D. J. Branker told the Star-Ledger that the piece is intended to “be a form of healing” after Martin’s death and the controversial court case that followed it. The ballad, which will be performed by the university’s official orchestra and jazz ensemble, is intended to be a tribute to victims of racial violence, Branker explained. He hopes that the performance will be “one that speaks to
In February, the Bush family’s personal emails were hacked by Guccifer, a hacker who uncovered photographs of former President George H. W. Bush in a hospital bed and George W. Bush’s oil paintings in the process. It seems Guccifer has struck again, this time targeting former President Bill Clinton and the Clinton Library. The hacker has reportedly uncovered doodles of Clinton drawing on what were, at the time, classified documents. Among the doodles is apparently a picture of a penis. The document uncovered is a briefing of the strategic measures the United States could take prior Clinton’s decision to intervene in
