Glenn Beck And S.E. Cupp Agree
That GOP Must Accept
Gay Marriage, But How?

Mediaite, by Noah Rothman

On Wednesday night’s Real News on The Blaze TV, S.E. Cupp and Glenn Beck engaged in a strategy session focusing on ways to move the Republican party forward in the wake of 2012’s losses. Their conversation centered around the GOP’s historic opposition to gay marriage – both agreed that the party of Lincoln must find a politically amenable solution to move party towards accepting, if not embracing, same-sex marriage rights. In the process, however, Beck became somewhat vexed over the real and persistent problem that religious objections to gay marriage pose to formulating a policy that

Comments:
Let me say unequivocally that as a conservative GOP voter, I will never accept gay marriage on our platform. When we dilute what we formally believe to get special interest groups within our "tent," we can´t complain later when our elected representatives amount to nothing more than RINOs.

If one cannot see that both national and world events are reaching a crescendo where our very existence as a World Power may wither, we are doomed. Sticklng to our principles, or core beliefs are necessary.

I vote for a fundamental change in the marriage process in the US. Do it like some other countries do. Get married in a civil ceremony, and then if you´re religious, get married in a church. The government sanctions civil unions of its choosing, and the church sanctions marriages of its choosing. As long as churches are not forced to marry those couples with whom they have some sort of philosophical disagreement, all is fine.

I still submit that WAY YONDER more damage has been done to teh institution of marriage in the last 50-75 years by heterosexuals´ lackadasical attitudes towards affairs, divorce, and remarriage than any gay couples could ever do.

A big chunk of the Republican base is ´´values voters´´. And the two biggest values we stand for are the preservation of traditional marriage and the opposition to abortion.

The only reason many of us support and vote for Republicans is that the Republicans have stood solidly for these core values.

Water down those values, and you lose way more voters than you may gain.

You hit one of the issues, #1. The goal is to force churches to perform same sex marriage or face loss of their tax exempt status. The same goes for adoption standards. The other goal is to destroy the entire idea of marriage by opening the door to polygamy (guess who might like that), polysndry, incestuous marriage and animal-human weddings. Gays can get married right now in a number of churches that approve. I don´t care if gays are given civil union status, with all the attendant benefits, such as they are. That´s fine, but the hidden agenda of the leftists is what troubles me.

My guess is that homosexuals will not like this solution because it does not embrace them and their lifestyles. They want total capitulation, not hands-off. They want their federal marriage benefits that married people have ´always´ had, not hey-since-you-want-federal-benefits-nobody-gets-federal-benefits. This won´t be good enough for them.

It is what marriage represents to God #1. I don´t care what the hetros do regarding marriage, none of my business what goes on behind their doors. But marriage was set up by God to be between a man and a woman. Anything else God hates.

Been to China -- seen the underground churches. The police state sanctions only the public churches -- which use a watered down Gospel. In return for their unthreatening lip service, the state doesn´t shoot the public worshippers, and everyone knows the police attend the services to monitor what goes on. Did I say the underground church Christians, the real Christians with a personal relationship, live as martyrs for Christ, knowing they can be betrayed, and tortured for the faith, yet willing to die for Him? The Chinese models: that is the fate you fallen, gutless politicians and scribbling renfields may have chosen for your countrymen, so that you can keep your comfortable Romanoff lifestyles "drowning all the ceremonies of innocence."

Government has no business in peoples personal lives including marriage. Let states decide, it´s the only practical way from a civil perspective.

The constitution does not address abortion, marriage or any other social arrangements and culturally, California and let´s say North Carolina are incomparable.

10th amendment should dictate here regardless of your own personal religious beliefs. Otherwise, as some have pointed out - get ready for polygamy and worse.

Get the Feds out of the bedroom.

#3, right. What it is, is expanding the definition of marriage until it pops. It isn´t marriage equality, it´s erasing marriage. It´s like calling everything a holocaust so the real holocaust is trivialized. The real thing, marriage, has issues and there is no way to address them in a framework stripped of references to x and y chromosomes, fertility, birth etc. Expanding the definition until it pops is what they are doing.

Reply 19 - Posted by: grounded, 12/14/2012 12:02:00 AM     (No. 9064572)

More correctly the dictum should read "marriage is between one man and one woman at a time." In this era of no fault divorce, people change partners about as often as they change their socks. The accepted number for years is that 50% of marriages end in divorce. The unremarked upon corollary to that statistic is that most of the divorces occur between the spouses in their second or third or fourth marriages. Failure begets failure.

For the record, Glenn Beck proclaims himself to be a Mormon.

Myself, I´m wondering when US Muslims are going to raise a ruckus for polygamy as a religious right on First Amendment grounds. Some idiot judges like those on the Ninth Circuit of Appeals would probably find in their favor.

Yes, 50% of marriages end in divorce, but 60% of first marriages last a lifetime. Staying together and raising civilized children is the hardest, most challenging job of our lives. Enough of us are still successful enough in raising the next generation to provide a foundation for our nation to continue. But as the institution of marriage continues to erode, so does our nation - like steel mixed with increasing proportions of lead.

Beck is wrong, as are all the other ´conservatives´ who believe that redefining marriage will somehow make conservatism more popular, and pave the way for a more principled approach to our nation´s conduct. Instead, it will further erode the amount of loving effort invested in the next generation. The result will be an ever-increasing proportion of feral children, who will become feral adults. Once they are unleashed, the fiscons will know what they´ve surrendered. They will not like the world they´ve created.

Secondly, Beck and DCupps are incredibly stupid if they think that gay marriage is what lost the election. gay marriage is what sent 99% of blacks to the polls, 75% of Latios, 65% of people under 21. O´Dearleader won because he owns John Stewart, BET, and SportsCenter. Hope that helps, Glen the imbecile who shouldn´t have given up the one thing he was good at: drinking. This is right up there with Hannity saying we need amnesty because we keep losing. How bout we get the hook already for these losers. Exit stage left, clowns.

I´m hoping Beck was just trying to provoke thinking about it... not really accepting it.

I really think we need a 3rd party. Too many progressives in the GOP are buckling.

The Heritage Party could be organized by DeMint... attracting anyone who is a constitutionalist. This includes Tea Partiers, Libertarians, Independants & Ron Paul-ites.

We could embrace Judeao-Christian Values but allow freedom of choice. Live and Let Live... Just don´t tell us How to live.

There would be no special interest groups, no lobbyists, no protected classes,no unions, no illegals, no exceptions. Just refer all to the constitution, bill of rights & leave it at that.

I also think the only course is to secede 50% of the nation... Our voting system is now rigged so there will never be a fair election again.

I pray this is what DeMint is working on, with cooperation from the TPers & Ron Paul.

Like it or not gay marriage is coming. Under Ronald Reagen the republican never got itself tangled in those issues. The social issue was abortion. Now the republican party is becoming the church party, and it´s going to destroy us. How people live is none of your business. The social conservatives, are very much like liberals, they want to control everyone else behavior. Since so many social conservatives stayed home the last election, maybe they should go their own way and start their own party.

Gluten-free diets are all the rage, but they can be dangerous if not done right. What is gluten? It´s the spongy complex of proteins, found naturally in wheat, rye, and barley, that gives elasticity to dough and allows it to rise. When flour is moistened and either kneaded or mixed into dough, gluten molecules form an elastic, microscopic latticework that traps the carbon dioxide produced when yeast ferments, causing dough to inflate like a hot air balloon. Baking hardens the gluten, which helps the finished product keep its shape. Wheat — and gluten — is ubiquitous in the American diet.
