New documents reveal lavish spending
at government-subsidized travel-
promotion agency

Daily Caller, by Caroline May

Original Article

Posted By:KarenJ1, 12/13/2012 11:40:53 AM

Promoting travel to America can be expensive — especially if Uncle Sam is footing most of the bill. Documents exclusively obtained by The Daily Caller show extensive waste and mismanagement at the public-private partnership Brand USA, a government-backed travel-promotion agency established in May 2011 under Travel Promotion Act of 2009 to encourage foreign travelers to visit the United States. Some of the new organization’s recent expenses include $4,139 for 250 holiday cards, $3,592 for a holiday e-card and $2,449 for a ringtone version of the Rosanne Cash song “Land of Dreams,”

Comments:
It is absolutely outrageous the millions of dollars that are wasted by this out-of-control regime. They don´t care that we are going bankrupt. Tom Coburn had great ideas on ways to cut waste and fraud in the government and it got nowhere. How depressing.

The entire federal budget is full of corruption and scams paid for by taxpayers. Every business in America has restructured and cut expenses since 2009. It is time for the Federal government to do the same, then this country can recover.

The Obama administration has yet to finalize 28 additional regulations under Obamacare that could lead to an “avalanche” of regulatory burden on the economy, according to an analysis by the American Action Forum. A report released Monday by Sam Batkins, director of regulatory policy at American Action Forum, details the billions in cost and millions in paperwork hours that will result from the pending regulations, including the individual mandate, which has yet to be finalized. “In total, these 28 paperwork burdens total more than 45.7 million burden hours,” the report said. “For perspective, it would take more than 22,800 employees working full-time

The Department of Health and Human Services says it has been unable to locate malicious software from Belarus inside Obamacare computer networks, according to a department spokeswoman. Joanne Peters, the spokeswoman, told the Washington Free Beacon that HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius received a letter sent last week from Rep. Michele Bachmann (R., Minn.) that urged HHS to shut down the network until the security of Americans’ private data can be assured. According to U.S. officials, an intelligence report produced earlier this month stated that software developers linked to the Belarusian anti-U.S. government were involved in developing software for Obamacare, formally known as

The White House on Monday pushed back against Iran’s efforts to set a “red line” preventing negotiations over its contested ballistic missile program, which has been permitted to continue undeterred under the recently signed interim nuclear accord. One of Iran’s top nuclear negotiators stated early Monday that Iran would under no circumstances negotiate with the West on its ballistic missile program. These remarks were accompanied by the announcement that Tehran had successfully test fired two ballistic missiles, which are the preferred delivery system for nuclear arms. “The defense-related issues are a red line for Iran,” Abbas Araqchi, Iran’s senior negotiator and its

Shortages of Critical Drugs Continue

Despite efforts by the Obama administration to ease shortages of critical drugs, shortfalls have persisted, forcing doctors to resort to rationing in some cases or to scramble for alternatives, a government watchdog agency said on Monday. In recent years, drug shortages have become an all but permanent part of the American medical landscape. The most common shortages are for generic versions of sterile injectable drugs, partly because factories that make them are aging and prone to quality problems, causing temporary closings of production lines or even entire factories. The number of annual shortages — both new and continuing ones — nearly

The White House is relaxing

The Treasury Department on Monday rolled out more tweaks to the health-care law´s requirement that all large employers--those with 50 or more workers--provide insurance coverage to their workers. This is the part of Obamacare was supposed to take effect at the start of 2014, but was delayed by the White House this past summer as the White House was facing significant push back from employers. In today´s final rule, the Obama administration is essentially relaxing the employer mandate for 2015--in a big way for medium-sized businesses, and a smaller way for the largest employers. Here´s a rundown of the key changes.

Gee, where would anyone ever get the impression that high-profile liberals working in American media have a deathless soft spot for Soviet Russia? Following the footsteps of MSNBC last year, The Daily Beast has taken it upon themselves to label the NFL´s first (prospectively) openly gay football player Michael Sam “The NFL’s Jackie Robinson.” Sam, who played defensive end for the University of Missouri, came out to his teammates last August but only recently announced publicly that he is homosexual. Last year, MSNBC’s openly gay host Thomas Roberts compared the NBA’s Jason Collins to Jackie Robinson and today Ben Jacobs decided the ridiculous comparison was appropriate of Sam. A deputy for House Speaker John Boehner has rejected Sen. Chuck Schumer’s Sunday suggestion that the House pass an immigration-boosting bill this year, but also delay implementation until after President Barack Obama leaves office in 2017. Schumer’s proposal was intended to counter Boehner’s statement last week that the GOP can’t pass an immigration rewrite because the legislators don’t Obama trust to enforce parts of the law that he does not like. “The trust concerns w/ President are not limited to immigration enforcement,” said a Monday tweet from Becky Tallent, Boehner’s immigration staffer.

On May 12, 1992, Stan Greenberg and Celinda Lake, top pollsters for Bill Clinton’s presidential campaign, issued a confidential memo. The memo’s subject was “Research on Hillary Clinton.” Voters admired the strength of the Arkansas first couple, the pollsters wrote. However, “they also fear that only someone too politically ambitious, too strong, and too ruthless could survive such controversy so well.” Their conclusion: “What voters find slick in Bill Clinton, they find ruthless in Hillary.” The full memo is one of many previously unpublished documents contained in the archive of one of Hillary Clinton’s best friends and advisers, documents that

SAN ANTONIO — We recommend incumbent John Cornyn for the GOP´s U.S. Senate nomination, based on unmatched experience and decades of service to Texas. The theme among a bevy of challengers seems to be that Cornyn is a CINO, a conservative in name only. This is not just counter-intuitive but counter-factual. Various ratings — liberal and conservative — have agreed on one thing, Cornyn´s conservative credentials are genuine. Not conservative? Cornyn is No. 2 in Senate leadership and diverged only slightly from the conservative playbook in a year in which he offered a measure that would further beef up security at the

It was the perfect Christmas tableau at the Allen-Farrow household: There sat Mia and nine of her children around the dinner table. In came Woody Allen with a holiday greeting. “Pardon me while I puke,” he said, then went off to the kitchen to juice apples. Long before the scandals — Woody taking off with Mia’s adopted teen daughter Soon-Yi, Mia accusing Woody of molesting their 7-year-old daughter, Dylan — the Allen-Farrow family was regarded as the ultimate cosmopolitan clan, a multiracial brood of 11 children,

Democrats from President Obama on down have been touting Obamacare´s sign-up numbers. Even after the system´s disastrous rollout, they like to point out, roughly three million people have signed up for private insurance, while 6.3 million have signed up for Medicaid. BAGHDAD — A group of Sunni militants attending a suicide bombing training class at a camp north of Baghdad were killed on Monday when their commander unwittingly conducted a demonstration with a belt that was packed with explosives, army and police officials said. The militants belonged to a group known as the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, or ISIS, which is fighting the Shiite-dominated army of the Iraqi government, mostly in Anbar Province. But they are also linked to bomb attacks elsewhere and other fighting that has thrown Iraq deeper into sectarian violence.
