Fracking: shale gas drilling gets
Government go-ahead

Telegraph [UK], by Rowena Mason

Edward Davey, the Energy Secretary, this morning lifted a ban on the drilling for shale gas, which was put in place after the UK´s first project near Lancashire caused tremors last year. His decision will allow companies to explore for the new energy source across swathes of countryside in the south, north-west and north-east of England. The first company to drill for Britain´s shale gas--Cuadrilla Resources--will now be able to resume its operations near Blackpool, with new controls guarding against the risk of mini earthquakes. Mr Davey said there is the "potential for a very exciting shale gas

Surprised this went through but I think Britain has woken up to the green scam and are tired of foreign sources of energy, maybe from countries like Russia.
We desperately need an awakening like this here.

The world´s turning upside down. Socialist-leaning countries like the UK and Canada are actively drilling for oil and natural gas using any available technology, and American greenie weenies are influencing our government to ban fracking and drilling. Oy.

Hundreds of thousands more patients are being forced to wait longer than four hours for emergency care as A&E departments across the country struggle due to closures and staff shortages. Official NHS data reveals a growing crisis in England’s A&E wards with one in every three patients now waiting four hours or more for emergency treatment in the worst affected areas. The figures, released by the Department of Health on Friday, show that during the week up to April 7, 33,225 patients were forced to wait longer than four hours compared with 13,081 in the same week

Down, down inside the Pyongyang Metro stands a statue of the Eternal Ruler of North Korea, Generalissimo Kim Il Sung – dead these past 19 years but still calling the shots. Brainwashing cast in bronze. The regime’s florid propaganda blares from loudspeakers: ‘The pure white snows of our sacred mountains’ artillery will wipe the filthy enemy from existence.’ Or something like that. [Snip] I’ve reported from Ceausescu’s Romania, Saddam’s Iraq, Gaddafi’s Libya, Mugabe’s Zimbabwe and the Ayatollahs’ Iran – but after eight days undercover in North Korea, I believe this regime is the most frightening tyranny of all.

COLUMBIA—South Carolina’s unemployment agency will lay off 100 employees in June as part of a statewide reorganization that directs anyone seeking jobless benefits to use its upgraded online system, the agency’s interim director announced. John Finan said the Department of Employment and Workforce will eliminate one-on-one help with unemployment claims on June 10, and the number of local offices offering job training and other re-employment services will shrink. Exactly how many of those 56 offices remain open past June will depend on decisions made by the state’s 12 workforce investment boards, he said.

A single half-muffled bell will toll from St Paul’s to greet the funeral cortege of Baroness Thatcher on Wednesday. In front of the coffin, Michael and Amanda Thatcher will lead the procession for their beloved grandmother. They will carry on cushions the Order of the Garter and the Order of Merit, two of the highest honours the Queen can bestow. [Snip] The ceremonial funeral, meticulously planned by the former prime minister, reveals her profound Christian faith. A strong Methodist upbringing was the bedrock from which Lady Thatcher built her political creed of self-reliance and personal responsibilty.

The last portrait of Margaret Thatcher, showing her relaxing on a deckchair in the London garden of the Chelsea Pensioners’ Home, is revealed today. It is a far cry from all previous imposing official paintings of the Iron Lady with her steely blue eyes radiating power. Here, she is like any other pensioner, frail but at ease, whiling away her last days rereading one of her favourite books, with a comforting blanket draped over the back of the chair in case the sun goes in. Most poignant of all, it is also the spot where her ashes will be buried

With some of America´s tastiest, yet unhealthiest food, it´s no wonder that for years, many have deemed people from the South to be amongst the fattest in the nation. The northern region of the country appears to have about 41 percent obesity compared to 31 percent

So what will be remembered as the biggest political event of spring 2013? Naturally the death of Lady Thatcher must be the prime candidate. But there is another that has thus far consumed only a tiny proportion of the column inches that have rightly been expended on the passing of the Iron Lady yet may have more pro found and longerlasting consequences. I speak of the rise and rise of Ukip. The Eastleigh by-election, in which Ukip sensationally beat the Conservatives to second place, has of course registered in the national political consciousness.

This is written in haste, at the end of a day full of meetings. But British readers must know about the case of Dr Kermit Gosnell, which has been played down in the American media – possibly because the allegations of a homicidal abortion doctor don´t fit into their pro-choice narrative. The following quotes are taken from Conor Friedersdorf´s report in The Atlantic. You will need a strong stomach, but I urge you to read it all. The grand jury report in the case of Dr Kermit Gosnell, 72, is among the most horrifying I´ve read. "This case is about

Its flavour may be more gentle than a conventional clove, but wild garlic adds a sweet pungency to many springtime dishes. Last spring a friend left a carrier bag hanging on my door. I could smell what was inside before I looked. She had returned from Wales with armfuls of wonderful wild garlic: green, lush and overwhelmingly pungent. Foragers have long known of wild garlic, also known as ´ramsons´ or ´ramps´ (Allium ursinum). In 1972 in Food for Free, Richard Mabey noted that ´for those who like their garlic strong, ramsons will prove magnetic´.

Pro golfers, golf writers, and TV commentators are up in arms that Tiger Woods was only given a 2-stroke penalty for his illegal drop on the 15th hole yesterday. Tiger said last night that he dropped his ball two yards behind his previous spot, clearly violating the rule that you must drop "as nearly as possible" to your original spot. Golf people are not happy about it. They say that the new rule is B.S. (or it´s at least being misinterpreted), and Tiger should DQ himself to save the integrity of the game.

In Philadelphia, at a human abattoir on Lancaster Avenue, is where it ends, not where it starts. It starts with the perversion of language. It starts when the icons of a dissipated culture reduce a baby to a “fetus.” From there, Yeats’s blood-dimmed tide rolls rapidly in. Before long, a baby is not a person but a punishment, as President Barack Obama framed the matter in his familiar off-the-cuff iciness. Of course, to describe newborn children in their boundless possibilities and wonder would be to acknowledge, foremost, their humanity. That is why, instead, abortion enthusiasts must grope for words

Sen. The law, said Rockefeller, is “so complicated and if it isn’t done right the first time, it will just simply get worse.” Rockefeller’s consternation echoes comments made earlier this

They say they were just doing what the boss trained them to do. But eight former employees of a run-down West Philadelphia abortion clinic now face prison time for the work they did for Dr. Kermit Gosnell. Three have pleaded guilty to third-degree murder. And Gosnell, 72, is on trial in the deaths of a patient and seven babies allegedly born alive. In testimony at the capital murder trial this past month, an unlicensed doctor and untrained aides described long, chaotic days at the clinic. They said they performed grueling, often gruesome work for little more than minimum wage,

With President Obama, there’s always a catch. In the 2014 budget he announced last week, Obama proposed a more accurate way of calculating the inflation rate for annual cost-of-living increases in Social Security. It’s a technical change in pursuit of honesty and good government. And if adopted, it would cause benefits to grow more slowly, though almost imperceptibly so. Republican leaders in Congress ought to be delighted since they had “championed”—Obama’s word—the idea in the first place. Then came the catch. The president’s price for adopting this gentle reform was hundreds of billions in new tax increases.

Few Americans can not answer this question: who is the worst domestic mass murderer in United States’ history? Due to the United States media, most are aware that Timothy McVeigh slaughtered 168 people with a bomb in 1995. Most Americans also know the names of our three most monstrous serial killers: “The Green River Killer” Gary Ridgeway, Ted Bundy, John Wayne Gacy. Here is something I don’t understand: liberals are often revealed as vile, vulgar hatemongers–not all of them, of course, but far too many–yet they never seem to pay a penalty at the polls. Why is that? Margaret Thatcher’s death has been the latest occasion for the Left to show its true stripes. All across the U.K., there have been demonstrations–vulgar at best, and violent at worst. In Bristol, lefties celebrating a Thatcher “death street party” started fires, destroyed property and battled police: This evening in Trafalgar Square, liberals have turned out for a long-planned celebration of Thatcher’s death:

A few hours after Margaret Thatcher´s death on Monday, the snarling deadbeats of the British underclass were gleefully rampaging through the streets of Brixton in South London, scaling the marquee of the local fleapit and hanging a banner announcing, "THE B@&$!
