| Carson City, Nev. — A Nevada woman who survived six frigid days in the mountains said in an interview aired Monday that she had asked her boyfriend not to venture out for help after their Jeep became mired in mud on a back road. Paula Lane said she told Roderick Clifton they should stay with the vehicle and ride out the storm together. Instead, Clifton gave her a wave and walked away. “I knew I was never going to see him again,” Lane, 46, said on NBC’s “Today” show. Lane, 46, was still recovering from frostbite at a Carson City hospital. She was rescued Dec. 5 by her brother, Gary Lane,

That almost always happens. It is better to stay where there is a little shelter (vehicle) that go out totally exposed. Plus, they could have helped keep each other warm while waiting. Geez

Abolutely avoidable. Don´t go beyond the barricade. The enviro-weenies love to offroaders do that so they can argue for closing even more land... Sad, but happens all to frequently this time of year.

Lots of bad thinking there....if you´re off roading in the mountains in winter, take a survival kit..they are cheap enough and easy to find. Why didn´t they make a shelter in the woods (see Boy Scout manual) and ride it out? Why did he leave the Jeep? Why were they on a barricaded road??? I mean the barricade was put there for reason, right?
Definitely Darwin Award material.

People tend to believe the
TV commercials about the abilities of the vehicles they buy. I can tell you, after many years personal experience with "out back" vehicles, they are not anywhere near capable of the things they show them doing in commercials. And, because of the TV hype, people die.

Very sad. I miss the Sierra Nevadas. They´re beautiful in the winter. They´re deadly if you stray off established roads, ski off established paths or otherwise try to cheat nature. A 1989 FWD vehicle doesn´t sound very durable, either.

William Strickland waited for his grandfather to step out of his South Side home to take his paratransit ride to a kidney dialysis appointment early March 2, authorities said Saturday — then stood behind the 72-year-old man, shot him six times in the back and stole his wallet, leaving him to die just steps from his home. Prosecutors said Saturday that Strickland, 19, used the money he took from his grandfather, who also was named William Strickland, to pay for new gym shoes, a cellphone and tattoos. The teen had no criminal history but was an admitted gang member, they said.

CORTEZ, Colo. - A school board in western Colorado has decided to allow the district superintendent and a principal to carry firearms onto school grounds. The Cortez Journal reports the seven-member board that oversees schools in Dolores County voted unanimously Wednesday to allow the principal at Dove Creek High School and the superintendent to double as security officers, provided they complete a concealed carry course and receive a permit from the county sheriff´s office. Superintendent Bruce Hankins and Principal Ty Gray will receive an additional $1 salary for the extra duties.

Santa Ana Unified, the only Orange County school district with its own police force, says that certain officers are trained to use department-issued assault rifles, but none of the high-powered guns or other weapons is stored on campuses. DENVER - Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper gave a candid comment to the New York Times about his wife, from whom he is separated. The reporter says the Governor told him Helen Thorpe mentioned if Hickenlooper wanted to run for President, she offered to stay married and figure it out.
