Intern for Sen. Menendez
picked up by immigration officials

Associated Press, by Alicia A. Caldwell

U.S. Sen. Robert Menendez employed as an unpaid intern in his Senate office an illegal immigrant who was a registered sex offender, now under arrest by immigration authorities, The Associated Press has learned. The Homeland Security Department instructed federal agents not to arrest him until after Election Day, a U.S. official involved in the case told the AP. Luis Abrahan Sanchez Zavaleta, an 18-year-old immigrant from Peru, was arrested by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in front of his home in New Jersey on Dec. 6, two federal officials said. ICE agents in New Jersey notified superiors at the Homeland Security Department because they considered it a potentially high profile arrest, and DHS instructed them not to arrest Sanchez until after the November election, one U.S. official told the AP. ICE officials complained that the delay was inappropriate, but DHS directed them several times not to act, the official said.

Hmmm...

Remember folks, this is the same Senator, for which the following was reported by the Daily Caller before the election:

"Two women from the Dominican Republic told The Daily Caller that Democratic New Jersey Sen. Bob Menendez paid them for sex earlier this year.

In interviews, the two women said they met Menendez around Easter at Casa de Campo, an expensive 7,000-acre resort in the Dominican Republic. They claimed Menendez agreed to pay them $500 for sex acts, but in the end they each received only $100."

Menedez won pretty handily anyway. This probably would have made a difference either.

Further to what #3 posted:

It was not immediately clear why federal immigration authorities would not have been notified sooner about Sanchez´s status.

During discussions about when and where to arrest Sanchez, the U.S. reviewed Sanchez´s application for permission to stay in the country as part of President Barack Obama´s policy to allow up to 1.7 million young illegal immigrants avoid deportation and get permission to work for up to two years. As a sex offender, he would not have been eligible. U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, which oversees the program known as Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, notified Sanchez of that shortly before his arrest, one official said.

First he was here on an expired visa, then he was under consideration as a "childhood arrival". He obviously didn´t make the cut. But something is fishy.

There are many unpaid interns in Washington. It is sort of like being a volunteer. They put in the time and hope to get noticed and hired eventually. A tiny fraction do get hired and then work for peanuts, barely able to survive. The rest move back home , opportunity gone.

Paterson – City police officer Virginio Formentin made $132,269 in overtime in 2013, marking the second year in a row that he topped all municipal employees in that category, according to payroll records. A veteran detective, Formentin works on a special assignment with federal authorities that Police Director Glenn Brown said must be kept confidential. Formentin was on that same sensitive assignment in 2012, when his overtime total was $112,051. Payroll records show Formentin’s base salary is $89,292 and his total regular pay jumps to $107,724 with a longevity stipend. “For some of his hours, we’re reimbursed,” said Brown.

Hollywood star Salma Hayek and her billionaire French husband are moving to Britain. François-Henri Pinault, France’s third richest man, is relocating his family to London. Pinault, the chief executive of Kering, a luxury goods group, has an estimated fortune of £9 billion. The capital has recently become a popular destination for wealthy French, who are seeking to avoid a 75 per cent supertax introduced by increasingly unpopular Socialist President François Hollande. But despite the recent exodus of millionaires from France, Ms Hayek insisted that her family were moving to London for career reasons and not for tax purposes.

The district’s Department of Insurance, Security and Banking issued a bulletin Thursday saying gender dysphoria is a recognized medical problem and its treatments are to be covered by health plans. Washington joins five states, including California, Colorado and Connecticut, that provide coverage. But Gray says Washington’s rules will provide the country’s most comprehensive coverage.
