To Give In, or Not to Give In:
That Is Not the Question

Weekly Standard, by Jeffrey H. Anderson

Original Article

There is a lot of talk about whether Republicans should "give in" on raising taxes on the top 2 percent of income-earners. But the question isn´t whether Republicans should "give in," but how they should react to a situation in which tax rates on that portion of Americans are going to rise whether Republicans want them to rise or not. If no deal is struck to keep us from going over the inaptly named "fiscal cliff"—only in Washington could a step designed to slow the rate of increase of our $16,000,000,000,000 debt be coined a "fiscal cliff"—

It´s hard to tell if more people in this country are shocked over Obama´s re-election or there´s that many idiots that voted for him.Obama has a zero personal sense of responsibility. His goal is absolute power and if the debt rises to $25 trillion in the process,so be it.

There´s groups like the CFR or their offshoots that take certain well off people on the side and say as long as you and your family are well taken care of,why not hop on the one world order bus.

This is the other side of Obama´s co-opting giveaways. You have the well heeled financiers at the top and the ground troops on the other end that vote for simplistic improvements like free cell phones. The real money is going to the ruling class oligarchy.

Solyndra investors came out ahead in a doomed to fail enterprise, that they knew would fail ahead of time because of the Chinese already cornering the market.. When their loan was refinanced by the energy dept., it was approved the investors would be held harmless in their financial exposure and it was upheld in court. They should actually be in jail for racketeering.

Kickbacks and quid pro quos have been brushed aside as illegal in Obama´s crony capitalism schemes.

AS YOU read this, the United States Patent Office has issued patents for over 4 million inventions. That figure is an astonishing testimony to American ingenuity, yet in all likelihood, very few of those patented inventions will make a major impact on our day-to-day life in the way that the electric light bulb, the telephone, the automobile, and the Internet have done. And few if any of the inventors will achieve the fame of a Thomas Edison or a Henry Ford. That’s a shame, because over the years inventors have come up with products that make our lives easier,

Before 13 women stepped forward to accuse San Diego Democratic Mayor Bob Filner of sexual harassment, Filner was not the political pariah he is now. Prior to his election as mayor — and the recent, numerous sexual harassment accusations — former President Bill Clinton endorsed Filner, asking voters to join him “in supporting Bob Filner for mayor” in 2012. According to a report from KPBS from Oct. 31, 2012, at a news conference announcing the endorsement, Filner said that he frequently spoke with the former president.

We’ve all run across the pill bug in our gardens. At the first sign of danger, the tiny paranoid crustacean suddenly turns into a ball — in hopes the danger will have passed when he unrolls. That roly-poly bug can serve as a fair symbol of present-day U.S. foreign policy, especially in our understandable weariness over Iraq, Afghanistan, and the scandals that are overwhelming the Obama administration. On August 4, U.S. embassies across the Middle East simply closed on the basis of intelligence reports of planned al-Qaeda violence. The shutdown of 21 diplomatic facilities was the most extensive in recent American history.

New York Times columnist Thomas Friedman is facing criticism from the pro-Israel community following an article in Wednesday’s paper that incorrectly asserts Israeli settlers assassinated former Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin. While discussing renewed Israeli-Palestinian peace talks, Friedman wrote, “One should never forget just how crazy some of Israel’s Jewish settlers are. They assassinated Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin when he tried to cede part of the West Bank for peace.” However, Israeli settlers were not responsible for Rabin’s assassination. The New York Times made the same error in a 2005 article and was forced to run a correction. Rabin’s assassin Yigal Amir was living

As the end of September looms and the end of the current fiscal year, the media is filled with dire stories of the pending default of the United States. This fear is bogus. The annual debt interest payments are roughly $359+ billion. The government is collecting annual revenue somewhat north of $2.5 trillion. There is thus plenty of cash to pay our debt interest payments to bond holders. It is therefore misleading at best to say the US government is in danger of defaulting without a spending agreement for FY2014. Can you on the other hand say that

The problems keep stacking up for the partial implementation of Obamacare on October 1. The Wall Street Journal reports this week that the Department of Health and Human Services has cut back on the number of training hours required for the Obamacare "navigators," federal workers who under the health care law are tasked with helping consumers purchase insurance through the state exchanges. Here´s the Journal: Grants to hire and train the workers aren´t expected to be released for another two weeks for the 34 states where the federal government is running all or part of the marketplaces,

I’ve written more than once that I don’t care about inequality. I care a lot about the absolute condition of the poor...but I don´t care whether Bill Gates is living in a house that cost 19 squintillion dollars. I care whether everyone else in the country has a warm, dry abode with indoor plumbing and all the other mod cons. That view changed while I was researching an article on late marriage. Marriage has basically followed the same path as income over the last 50 years. The college-educated have it better than ever --

Vladimir Putin must be crying in his vodka now that President Obama has canceled a one-on-one meeting that had been scheduled during next month’s G-20 gathering in Russia. Not. Granting political asylum to the fugitive intelligence leaker Edward Snowden was just the latest in a series of Russian provocations. On issues from Iran and Syria to North Korea and trade, the much-vaunted reset button is stuck. But if the president seriously believes that canceling a meeting will cause Putin to abruptly change course, he’s dreaming. Because Obama has shown no sign that he’s prepared to impose any serious consequences for opposing the US.

National Security Agency leaker Edward Snowden extended his 15 minutes of fame Wednesday, as headlines tied his saga to President Barack Obama’s decision to cancel a planned summit meeting in Moscow next month with Russian President Vladimir Putin. But analysts said the talk of Snowden’s role in the cancellation obscured a more basic reality: The U.S.-Russia relationship is now so frosty that it didn’t appear the two presidents would actually accomplish enough to merit such a high-profile meeting. After four years, the much-vaunted reset in U.S.-Russian relations has devolved into a chilly standoff over issues like the Kremlin’s support for Syria

The terror threat emanating from al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula in Yemen has focused attention on the group’s cunning leader, Nasir al-Wuhayshi. And for good reason. Wuhayshi, who was personally groomed by Osama bin Laden, is said to be a highly effective organizer and charismatic leader in the mold of his now-deceased mentor. Recently, Wuhayshi was elevated to the No. 2 position in al Qaeda’s core organization, even while running AQAP. But despite Wuhayshi’s growing stature among terror masterminds, no AQAP operative worries the United States more than Ibrahim al-Asiri, the group’s diabolically clever bombmaker,

No more Dem cocktail parties for her… The president is great when it comes to platitudes. At Knox College in Galesburg, Ill., Obama laid out the “cornerstones” of what it means to be middle class in America: a good job, a good education, a home of one’s own, a secure retirement and affordable health care. He’s less adept at outlining the policies needed to achieve those goals. (Snip) A few examples will suffice. No. 1. Because Obama speaks with such authority, it often takes several repetitions before I realize that what he’s saying is total nonsense.

WASHINGTON — U.S. officials insisted Tuesday that extraordinary security measures for nearly two dozen diplomatic posts were to thwart an “immediate, specific threat,” a claim questioned by counterterrorism experts, who note that the alert covers an incongruous set of nations from the Middle East to an island off the southern coast of Africa. Analysts don’t dispute the Obama administration’s narrative that it’s gleaned intelligence on a plot involving al Qaida’s most active affiliate, the Yemen-based Arabian Peninsula branch. That would explain why most U.S. posts in the Persian Gulf are on lockdown, including the U.

Critics of the president are convinced that Barack Obama will do lasting damage to the U.S. I doubt it. Obama came to power in the third year of large Democratic congressional majorities. In his first referendum, he lost the House and he may soon lose the Senate; in other words, there followed a somewhat normal reaction against a majority party. Obama’s popularity rating is well below 50%, despite an obsequious media and a brilliantly negative billion-dollar campaign that long ago turned Mitt Romney into a veritable elevator-using, equestrian-marrying, canine-hating monster. Former Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney jumped into the debate over the GOP’s future Tuesday night, warning congressional Republicans against forcing a government shutdown in their quest to stop President Barack Obama’s signature health care law. Romney addressed more than 200 donors on the shores of Lake Winnipesaukee at a fundraiser for the New Hampshire Republican Party, staged just four miles from the vacation home where he has spent much of the summer with his family. The event was closed to the media, but his office released his prepared remarks.

The U.S. State Department issued a global alert about the terrorist threat allegedly posed by Al-Qaeda in Yemen. The USA announced the closure of its missions in the Middle East and Africa, and their example was followed by France, Britain, and Germany. However, this was only an attempt to justify the activities of the National Security Agency.Last Saturday, right after alerting of the terror threat civilians and BOLO complex ("be on the lookout") that includes law enforcement and federal officials, President Barack Obama went to play golf, and then celebrated his birthday at the presidential retreat at Camp David.

In a rare diplomatic snub, President Obama is canceling plans to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow next month. The decision reflects both U.S. anger over Russia´s harboring of National Security Agency leaker Edward Snowden and growing frustration within the Obama administration over what it sees as Moscow´s stubbornness on other key issues, including missile defense and human rights. Obama will still attend the Group of 20 economic summit in St. Petersburg, Russia, but a top White House official said the president had no plans to hold one-on-one talks with Putin while there.

As of July 3, Republicans comprised 27 percent of the state´s registered voters and Democrats made up just 14 percent. The last time Alaskans opted for the Democrats´ presidential candidate was in 1964. Clinton trails five other hypothetical GOP candidates –

MOSCOW — Russia on Wednesday faced a mounting campaign against its hosting of the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi after passing what campaigners called "barbaric" anti-gay legislation, six months before the opening of its biggest ever sporting event. British actor Stephen Fry called for Russia to be barred from hosting the Games in the Black Sea resort while gay rights campaigners handed over a 320,000-signature petition to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) urging it to condemn the law. Russian President Vladimir Putin in June signed into law legislation that punishes the dissemination of information about homosexuality to minors
