The president says right-to-work laws mean "the right to work for less money." So how does he explain the fact that incomes are up in RTW states while forced unionism is a proven job killer? Campaigning Monday in Michigan as it stood poised to become the nation´s 24th right-to-work state, President Obama spoke the exact opposite of the truth to union workers at a Daimler Detroit Diesel plant in the birthplace of organized labor. "What we shouldn´t be doing," he told the small crowd, "is trying to take away your rights to bargain for better wages
Comments: And here we thought Democrats were pro-choice.
What we need is some very important Senator to get up on the floor and call out the president, in bold and unforgiving fashion, and call Obama - if not to his face, at least in his presence and with the cameras rolling - a BoldFaced Liar. After of course, having checked and double checked the facts and then memorizing those facts. The media will swarm the president in a protective cloak, but lo, perhaps one timid weaselly reporter will slither over to that Senator to accuse him of casting aspersions toward the monarchy. At which point he rattles off point by point facts and truths that become part of the news flow. That´s how it plays out in my fantasy skit, anyways.
At this rate, His Majesty will soon be calling for "the rich" to be handcuffed and marched to the public square, where they will be given the choice of renouncing "greed" and submitting to the Gospel of Fairness (According To Marx), and having their heads placed in the guillotine. It would be a fitting spectacle, in this reign of bread and circuses.
The unions should be using dues money to shore up their underwater pensions, instead they dump it in the dems protection racket.
It´s not only unions in the north that will see jobs go,Obamacare mandates will chase employers to low tax,Obamacare opt out states. It´s absolute insanity to elect any form of liberal to fix an economy.Obama kills jobs by the millions, then wants to borrow trillions to create a handful of phony government make work ones. The middle men in the operation are the real bandits.
OP, good point. Women can be pro-choice about killing babies in utero but no one is permitted a choice of belonging to a union or not.
Pointing out liberal hypocrisy is useless to the last couple generations of non-analytical thinkers. They´re ignorant. The MSM, by contrast, has no excuse -- they´re deliberately obfuscating or withholding.
Obama´s feeling pretty cocky these days. Knows he´s now got 4 years to finish the dismantling. Knows the MSM will exalt him, cover for him when needed. So the lies get more brazen, the Mussolini uplifted nose gets lifted higher, haughtier.
And these speeches no longer sound like they´re just more campaigning. No, they´re a call to arms for his storm troopers. He´s really their commander in chief and he´s signaling them that it´s time to take the hill, take out those corporations and those evil white, rich people who have been oppressing them. Go ahead, he´s saying, take what´s theirs because under my command, it will be yours.
The union members are being duped not only by the Democrats but by their own union management. I remember very well the Post Cereal strike in Battle Creek Michigan. They went out for about 8 weeks. Their union masters literally were driving by in limos waving to the sign carriers. They finally went back to work with a pay cut. Tell me again how right to work will cause lower wages. Moving the company to China has the same effect.
1) he approved while a union thug big shot literally stood next to him and threatened the lives of political opponents ("take back these son of a bitches [sic] out" 2) his encouraging of violence against opponents is happening now (see Crowder video) 3) he has STILL not condemned the violence. Nice, Hope and Change. Encouraging violence against political adversaries. Good thing President Bush didn´t do it. The media would then report it.
#1 . more like campaigning . The socialists see even a minute crack leaking some water and they´ll rush to fix it . On our dime . We start puting the education system on trial and watch the turmoil . Wis. times a thousand .
I guess when faced with facts that are undeniably true, Obama has to lie. Then when honest people like us are left in head scratching huh? mode, this gives him time to get away and set up the next sideshow performance. He truly is a barker.
Marxist that he is, Obama can only see "group rights" as opposed to "individual rights". Has anyone ever heard him speak about individual achievement and rights? Gov´t can´t afford a tax cut??? Obama assumes that ALL money belongs to the gov´t. Beware people, the wealthy don´t HAVE enough money to support this government..the money IS in the middle class because there are so many more of us.
Yesterday on my TV, I got to see Labor Union Thugocracy in action up close and personal; not a pretty sight. Watching it unfold reminded me of how true are the words: Liberals are unlike Conservatives in many ways; primarily because Liberals are simply incapable of thinking for themselves.
Today, Dozen Dozen Dozen Day, perhaps my TV will have something less distressingly action-packed for me to view. I can only hope.
UAW- the only place in the world where a highschool drop out driving a forklift earns $150,000 a year, then gets a huge national pension, local pension and medical care for his family for life. I wonder why all of the auto makers had to be bailed out?
They can get drunk and high on pot at lunch and don´t have to worry about getting fired, while the consumers of the vehicles put their children in these vehicles. The moral of this story is don´t buy a Chrysler product or for that matter a vehicles made in Michigan run by the UAW.
Even if it were true (which it isn´t), I would much rather have a job with a lower wage than never have a chance to work at all. Unions tend to make jobs an exclusive club and a lot of times it is like the paradox of having to have experience to get a job but needing a job to get experience. Same goes for unions. You need to be in a union to get the job but you need the job to be in the union.
At any rate, it is a proven FACT that everyone benefits from a free market. Any kinds of artificial controls always creates higher costs and less reward for the effort put in.
Energy: A Saudi prince has warned that his oil-reliant nation is under threat because of fracking technology being developed in the U.S. and spreading around the world. OPEC is now caught between Riyadh and a hard place. Indicative of the panic rippling through the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries over the U.S.-led fracking boom, billionaire Saudi Prince Alwaleed bin Talal says his Gulf Arab kingdom needs to reduce its reliance on crude oil and diversify its revenues, lest the era of gold-plated toilets come to an end.
Welfare: SNAP, the U.S. food stamp program, has become a conduit for redistributing wealth and fundamentally transforming America, as welfare recipients now send food overseas and the White House markets to illegals. While the administration laments the distraction of "phony" scandals like Benghazi and Fast and Furious that leave real Americans dead, it trots out phony statistics about how well the economy is doing. "And what is absolutely true is that we have come a long way since the depths of the Great Recession," White House Press Secretary Jay Carney said at a recent press briefing
Bankruptcy: The fundamental transformation of Detroit is complete, as socialism´s theme park succumbs to government run amok, a reminder that government isn´t the solution to our problems but their cause. The wisdom of President Reagan´s words have been lost under an administration that believes government is the entity from which all blessings flow. So has Margaret Thatcher´s observation that the problem with socialism is that eventually you run out of other people´s money. Last Oct. 13, President Obama boasted in a weekly address about the bailed-out auto industry that, "We refused to throw in the towel
Bill Of Rights: A Nevada family files a lawsuit after police literally seize their house to use as a command post after entering without a warrant and assaulting family members. Isn´t this what helped start the American Revolution? For those who snoozed through civics class, recent news events have provided an education on the U.S. Constitution, the bedrock of American democracy, assaulted by an administration that views it as obstructionist and irrelevant and by courts that view it as a "living document" — which is to say it means whatever they say it means on any given day.
Guns: Illinois has become the last state in the union to allow citizens their full Second Amendment rights, and officials in the murder capital of America worry about the consequences of citizens defending themselves. Illinois´ legislature on Tuesday voted to let gun owners carry concealed weapons. The action followed a violent and bloody Fourth of July weekend in President Obama´s hometown during which 74 people were shot and 12 were killed.
An oil-laden train not unlike those rolling down American tracks derailed and exploded Saturday in a Canadian town, proving why pipelines are safer and environmentalist opposition to a pipeline from Canada is misguided. At least 13 people were reported dead and 37 missing in the charred Quebec town of Lac-Megantic, 130 miles east of Montreal, after the accident created an inferno of burning crude. Some may never be found, likely vaporized by the sheer intensity of the blaze that burned for 36 hours. Canada´s oil boom, due largely to development
Regulation: No longer the stuff of science fiction, a little-noticed change in energy-efficiency requirements for appliances could lead to government controlling the power used in your home and how you set your thermostat. In a seemingly innocuous revision of its Energy Star efficiency requirements announced June 27, the Environmental Protection Agency included an "optional" requirement for a "smart-grid" connection for customers to electronically connect their refrigerators or freezers with a utility provider. The feature lets the utility provider regulate the appliances´ power consumption, "including curtailing operations during more expensive peak-demand times."
Oil: Production data for April show how fracking has shattered not only the shale rock in formations like Texas´ Eagle Ford and Permian Basin but also the myths of "peak oil" and petroleum as an energy source of the past. As Mark Perry notes on his Carpe Diem blog, Texas produced an average of 2.45 million barrels a day (bpd) of crude oil in April, according to the Energy Information Administration (EIA). That´s the highest average daily output for Texas in any month since April 1985 — 28 years ago. In only 2-1/2 years, the Lone Star State
Mideast: The assault on a monastery and the murder of its priest by Syrian rebels is a stark reminder of the threat to Christians in the Middle East and that the enemy of our enemy is not necessarily our friend. The Vatican has confirmed the murder by beheading of Syrian Catholic priest Francois Murad in the town of Gassanieh in northern Syria by jihadists belonging to the al-Qaida-linked group Jabhat al-Nusra, or Al-Nusra front. This raises questions about our involvement in aiding Syrian groups opposed to the regime of Bashar Assad
Energy Policy: A billionaire hedge fund manager and Barack Obama donor is pushing the president to stop the pipeline that would compete with one he´s invested in. That pipeline could send Canadian oil to China. Environmental activist Tom Steyer donated as much as he could to get Massachusetts Rep. Ed Markey elected to the Senate in the recent special election to fill the seat vacated by now-Secretary of State John Kerry. He wanted another senator who´s opposed to completing the Keystone XL pipeline that he says would be an environmental plague on the planet.
Energy Policy: The president said Tuesday the pipeline from Canada should be built if the State Department finds it will not add to carbon pollution and is in our national interest. But State already has — twice. ´Allowing the Keystone pipeline to be built requires a finding that doing so would be in our nation´s interest," the president said in his speech on climate change. "And our national interest will be served only if this project does not significantly exacerbate the problem of carbon pollution." As with Benghazi, President Obama must not talk to the State Department much.
Energy Policy: The Environmental Protection Agency declines to have outside experts review its study claiming water contamination from fracking in Wyoming. Why confuse an analysis based on ideology with the facts? As we noted in December 2011, the Environmental Protection Agency, under pressure from environmental groups, tried to manufacture a crisis in which hydraulic fracturing, or fracking, was said to have contaminated test wells in Pavillion, Wyo. Those claims and others made in the six-decade history of the technology´s use have repeatedly proved groundless. In 2011, the EPA released the non-peer reviewed report
Conservative bloggers went wild Monday when they got wind of the Congressional Black Caucus’ suggestion that President Obama pick Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee of Houston for the post of Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security. Rich Cooper, avid blogger for Security Debrief, responded to the news of the Jackson Lee recommendation in a post by saying, “Apparently, it is not a joke. For reasons that baffle any sense of reality, it is a serious gesture on the part of the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) to encourage President Obama to nominate Rep. Jackson Lee
There have been days since her son Ezekiel was born 11 months ago that Los Angeles mom Beth Capper has gone without food to keep up her supply. One friend was arrested for stealing some. It´s not drugs or alcohol or even baby formula that has put her in such a bind. It´s diapers. "There´s no way around buying them," said Capper, a 41-year-old single mother who doesn´t work because of a disability. Across the country, mothers like Capper are facing the same predicament. According to a report published Monday in the
America is in great shape energy-wise. We have more gas and oil reserves than ever before. Indeed, the United States could shortly become the world’s largest exporter of coal. Our cheaper power rates may bring energy-intensive industry back from Europe and Asia. If America’s small colleges are nearly broke and our public schools failing, nonetheless our blue-chip universities’ math, science, and engineering departments, and professional schools, remain the best in the world. (Snip)In our age, Nobel laureate, exempt Al Gore proved a fraud: the feminist who was accused of groping a woman in crazed sex-poodle fashion;
It is a small Alaskan village whose inhabitants have relied on the sea for countless generations. But within a decade, it is expected that the ocean which the village of Kivalina has so relied on will completely destroy it--creating America´s first climate change refugees. Temperatures in the Arctic region of Alaska are warming twice as fast as the rest of the U.S, causing ice to retreat, sea levels to rise and coastal erosion to increase. It is a small Alaskan village whose inhabitants have relied on the sea for countless generations. The 400 indigenous Inuit inhabitants of Kivalina, who live
Gotta figure her lead would be even bigger without Joe Miller in the field here. Her nomination for the taking? Alaska should be a top tier pick up opportunity for Senate Republicans next year…but their top choice of a candidate is Sarah Palin. 36% of GOP primary voters in the state say they’d like Palin to be their standard bearer against Mark Begich to 26% for Mead Treadwell, 15% for Dan Sullivan, and 12% for Joe Miller.
President Obama has been rolling up his sleeves campaigning across the country delivering a surreal stump speech message supposedly aimed at the middle class: big government works, Obamacare is manna from heaven, the wave of recent scandals are “phony” figments of the imagination, and all economic problems are the fault of the Republicans. Conveniently, he leaves out the bankruptcy of Detroit, a city run by his own party for more than half a century. His message is so stale and unconvincing, that even The New York Times and Washington Post have noticed. Both papers, usually loyal to Obama, remarked that
In an interview on National Public Radio (NPR), House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi said her new agenda for women will give mothers access to day care so they can “earn without carrying the burden of child care.” During the interview, aired on Weekend Edition Sunday, Pelosi spoke about her newly announced agenda, which is on her website, and is titled, “When Women Succeed, America Succeeds: An Economic Agenda for Women and Families,” a plan that includes universal pre-school and access to day care for working women, and an increase in the minimum wage.
Sen. John McCain — a Democrat? There was confusion Wednesday after the Arizona Republican mistakenly strolled into President Obama’s meeting with Senate Democrats at the Capitol. The room full of Democrats — who happened to be meeting in the same room where the Senate GOP usually holds their weekly policy luncheons — erupted in applause and laughter as the former Republican presidential candidate made his entrance. As McCain, 76, walked out of the Dem-filled space, reporters pressed him as to why he stepped foot in the room.
Many low-income families receive government assistance to help them purchase food and housing. Diapers are another story, a new study suggests. In what they are calling the first peer-reviewed study to quantify diaper need, Yale University researchers have found nearly a third of mothers cannot afford to purchase their infants diapers, raising health risks for not only babies but for moms who become stressed over the finances. "Notably absent from the antipoverty efforts targeting families is an essential staple for the health of children, diapers," wrote the researchers, led by Dr. Megan Smith,
Mideast: The sequester has "cost jobs," says President Obama, and "gutted investments in education and science and medical research." But somehow he´s earmarked $500 million for Hamas terrorists. Circumventing Congress and with no fanfare, President Obama last week issued an executive order enabling him to send an additional $500 million directly to the Palestinian Authority in the West Bank — much of which you can bet will wind up going to the Iranian-backed Hamas terrorist organization. According to Obama, "it is important to the national security interests of the United States to waive the provisions of" Congress´ legislative restrictions "in
The mother of Trayvon Martin said Monday that she believed Florida’s Stand Your Ground law played a role in her son’s shooting death, but she wasn’t ready to support a boycott of the state for not changing the self-defense law. “The thing about this law is I just think it assisted the person who killed my son to get away with murder,” Sybrina Fulton, the mother of the 17-year-old from Miami Gardens, said at a National Bar Association event in Miami Beach. “I think we have to change these laws so people don’t get
A group of experts advising the nation’s premier cancer research institution has recommended sweeping changes in the approach to cancer detection and treatment, including changes in the very definition of cancer and eliminating the word entirely from some common diagnoses. (Snip) The group, which includes some of the top scientists in cancer research, also suggested that many lesions detected during breast, prostate, thyroid, lung and other cancer screenings should not be called cancer at all but should instead be reclassified as IDLE conditions, which stands for “indolent lesions of
